Hummer bikes
Category: transportation
There are Hummer bikes at the bike store on Allen. I can't decide if I hate it or if I want one because its so ironic.

Woof
Category: web
I wonder if I am as alergic to werewolves as I am to dogs?

Who's that?! I think I looked like that when I was born and maybe even now to an extent.

Linwood Church of the Ascension Plow
Category: church of the ascension
I want to know who hires them and what company it is? Today they totally blocked half the street again with snow, plowed the grass, baracaded my driveway and even plowed over the dance campaign no parking or driveway sign. I used to think the dancecamp hired them but now I am thinking maybe it is the church.

It was so insanely difficult to walk to dance class today morning! It was as if there was this sudden outpouring of snow from somewhere in 10 minutes that dumped 3 inches everywhere. All this irrational plowing must have made it worse.

terracotta patio surface
Category: architecture
(e:Mike) and I were walking around downtown and I saw this building with a terracotta patio

It is exactly what I want to do with our front porch surface. I am tired of peeling, scraping and painting concrete. The process looks easy enough too seeing as I already have a perfectly flat concrete surface to work with.

That's like cobblestoned streets. There is an area in NYC where everything is cobblestoned - it was so slippery to walk on.

Dolci on Grant
Category: food
(e:Mike) and I stopped at Dolci's new location on Grant street to get some cakes for my mom's birthday tonight. There is no dessert I love more than their fancy little mini cakes. This one is apricot vanilla with almond. It looks so freaking delicious.

They are rather expensive though. That mini cake and a small chocolate flourless one ran about $30 bucks.

The locaton has a covered patio to the left of the entrance. I wonder if they will be using it in the summer?

I miss Dolci on Elmwood. I'd wave to the pizza maker every morning when walking to my car. He'd have his cigarette and black coffee. I'd come home and wave to another employee tending to people. There stuff was great and they treated their customers wonderfully. I would get a free day old loaf now and again. Little interactions like that are what make me love Elmwood and their absence from my block is a serious loss. Their almond cookies go so well with coffee.

I've never gone there but I assume the quality is the reason for the price.. There are some people like the writer of this blog who went their instead of Elmwood now... What that could do is spawn people who go there to also to other places on grant... Not everyone who lives over that way is poor some people are well off or at least make a decent dollar I think them moving there is good for grant st.. And could be good for "The Strip" if it teaches people that rents need to come down some....... How long ago did sweet tooth move (I will go on record as thinking it was a bad idea) and no one has moved in...............
tinypliny - 02/13/11 10:30
Yes, precisely. The people around that store can't afford it. That's not the case with Guercio's. Their prices are affordable to everyone in the community around the store. I am not sure that exorbitant prices are the way to revitalize the neighbourhood. It looks more like a way to divorce yourself from the community.

Grant does have some nice spots and some nice places and is going to try and be the new Elmwood... If you think about the College is right there and you have a bunch of good people living close by so it is possible. That being said Grant has all ways had plenty of poor people (when I was a kid living there sure we where that poor) and then there are the sketchy people around there as well. If you have ever seen a place with those black and Gold signs it used to be those looked really nice and every store had them for some Time Grant st. Was really strong before the Italians where driven away but a lot of them come back for Guericios (how ever you spell it) and where Sweetness 7 is now used to be Russ's (not sure on the spelling) and that church right there.. Maybe that crowd can be expanded some.. The 464 and Blink Gallery help bring people towards the other end of grant.... I could see grant getting much stronger but don't think it will get to the level of elmwood I don't think there is enough money and people for both to be strong but maybe the Grant St. Threat will lower rents a bit on Elmwood and that area can get some new fresh places....

Now that Dolci Moved what is in its place?
uncutsaniflush - 02/12/11 22:11
(e:tinypliny) - I don't think that Dolci would have dropped their prices after 20 years just because they moved from Elmwood to Grant.

Perhaps Grant is becoming the new Elmwood.
tinypliny - 02/12/11 19:28
That's incredibly expensive. Even Sweet Tooth is cheaper! And they are on Grant St!!
