Last night I spent some time in the basement cleaning up. Over the past year clutter has overtaken any sort of order that was hashed out down there. Most of my time was spent breaking down boxes that I have saved on higher priced items along with empty boxes from kids toys. I told my wife after I break down a bunch of stuff and take it to the curb I feel so liberated. Kind of makes me want to rent a dumpster and throw out a bunch.
This bring me to my next annoyance....shredding. I hate the fact that stuff sent to me without my asking has to be disposed of differently. I have almost 2 garbage bags full of papers that need to be destroyed to help protect us from identity theft. Does this even matter anymore? I would think that if someone really wanted to steal my identity they could. I check my credit report a few times which I think is a good preventative measure. Perhaps I am a little paranoid. I think at this point I might try and track down a metal barrel and make it into a paper burning station. I am at the point where my shredder will overheat if I feed that much paper through it not to mention the time that will take. Anyone know where I can get a metal 55 gallon barrel?

DIY Fixes for tech stuffFor some time now the MacBook Pro that is over 3 years old has been making a grinding noise on the right side. I knew it was a fan of some sort but figured I would just deal with it. The problem became increasingly worse and when my screensaver or a few apps that were CPU intensive fired it the sound was very annoying. I did some research and found that the MacBook Pros have 2 fans, one on the right and one on the left. I ordered up a new fan from ifixit.com which was only 70 dollars with shipping and handling. The shipping and handling was 20 dollars but could have been less with just regular mail delivery. I was a little apprehensive since usually when you take something a part it is a pain to get back together the way it once was.
I followed the directions they have on their website carefully and everything went well. The MacBook Pro is as good as new once again and quiet as well.
One more thing I remembered from a visit to the Genius Bar. If you want to stress test your CPU open a terminal window and type "yes" followed by the enter key. That will kick up your CPU enough to make you fans start up.
Who knows maybe you can find something on the site that is worth fixing.

Shit like this makes me want to never use Windows againi feel that Bill Gates would have to much class for something like this. I would not put it past Balmer however.

That's so crazy but I guess it gets the publicity. The reason I hate windows is because of things like this: (e:paul,52637)

I nodded in agreement so many times as I read this post. Recycling consciousness always comes in the way of a completely garbage-free home for me AND I am ALWAYS annoyed about the whole necessity of shredding stuff. Can't people NOT devise ways to steal things and leave people in peace for a change??? It is so environmentally unfriendly to burn or shred or not recycle potentially decomposable paper - and YET, it's almost a necessity. VERY frustrating.
I say burn it and take pictures. I bought one of those chiminea things from home depot last year. You could defiantly use one of those. Okay, I meant definitely but since it got spell corrected to defiantly, I thought I'd leave it. You can see it here (e:paul,40128) when we used it for our friend Dave's retirement party. It could totally rip through a ton of paper.
I love nothing more than throwing crap out. Recycling has put such a wrench in that though. Like I have this giant pile of metal scraps in my basement that I need to bring somewhere.
