In order to get 3G working on fedora I needed to use the following setting with NetworkManager.
1. First insert the dongle but then eject the disk that automounts as a CD. If you don't eject the disk it sees the dongle as a disk instead of as a modem. I am pretty sure there is a way to prevent this from happening but I haven't figured it out yet.
2. right-click network manager icon - choose edit connections. Click the mobile broadband tab and enter
Number:#777
Username: your phone @vzw3g.com e.g. 000000XXXX format
Password: vzw
Then just left click the network manager icon and select the network from the list

I believe it is the same price they pay for blackberries. I turned mine in for this instead. I need it so that I can get into the network and fix stuff from anywhere in an emergency as a lot of stuff depends on me. There is also a plan where you pay $10 or $15 just for the days you use it.
5GB data per month for $50?! That's a huge rip-off. Wonder how RPCI can afford this - even if it were 50% of that price. I am guessing not many employees get this gizmo.
I think it is like $50/month but I have no idea - it is a work thing and I think they get them cheaper. It includes 5GB data per month but it is not as fast as DSL with the advantage that it works just about everywhere.
This is so interesting. So the device is $9.99, but how much is the internet access rate for those 2 years? Can this serve as a substitute for my current DSL?
