snowflakes
Category: city
As I drove down Hertel today I present a simple question: Can we take down the snowflakes off the light poles already!?!?
tiburon1724 - 04/24/09 22:45
yeah but it's not Winter....
paul - 04/24/09 19:43
True, its even snowed on mother's day.
metalpeter - 04/24/09 19:03
Um No It still Could Snow, the Flakes stay up till May 1, as the New Spokesman for Hertel that is what I declare, HA. I'm guessing with it now trying to be Little Italy that someone forgot to take them down. I think I saw an Irish Flag still up on Delaware like around a week ago and wonder if there are still any up still from the Parade.
paul - 04/24/09 17:23
That is so crazy that they are still there. Do they have something like the elmwood village association for hertel. I would call them.

Avant Part 2
Category: buffalo
So I was lucky enough to get a tour of the under construction Avant building. TO and Marshawn Lynch have bought a pair of the $1.7 million condos, a guy on the tour as well was the new owner of one of the ~$350,000 units as well. MANY units are gone, not many left in fact. Office space has one entire level leased and parts of other levels. Four restaurants will open with the hotel on July 1. I was VERY impressed. Most of the pics are actually city views from the condos themselves since there are full windows along the outer walls.

It is great to hear that so many of them have been purchased already.
tiburon1724 - 04/07/09 12:15
my bad, it's apparently the former Dulski building and I said Donovan...I think the Donovan is the one by the Aud. Anyway apparently some punk destroyed some shit over the weekend inside :/

Nice pictures. I agree that it is nice that there was no NIMBYism with this project. It really looks pretty cool. I can't wait to see what it looks like when it is completely finished.
tiburon1724 - 04/06/09 11:55
yeah I wish the weather was nicer for the pics. Sadly I'm not affiliated with Avant in any way, lol, I just love this stuff...this is actually happening, in Downtown Buffalo....no NIMBYs stopping it or anything, it's amazing! WNYers are WNY's biggest problem. Like how a rotting steel structure for all of eternity is better than a casino in it's place...
tinypliny - 04/06/09 07:47
Too bad it was a rainy day.

  • Pssst: You sound suspiciously like an agent for Avant. Spill it! ;^)

L movie
Category: movies
So I got an email about showings of L movie.
Since there were get-togethers for the last two Death Note movies thought this was worth mentioning. A whole movie surrounding that guy? His character is so annoying!!
tiburon1724 - 03/26/09 17:33
April 29 subtitled and April 30 dubbed at 7:30pm.
metalpeter - 03/26/09 14:49
I had no idea there was just a movie about him. That might be pretty interesting to see. Since I don't know the when I don't know if I all ready have plans but a when and a where would be cool to know.

RadioShack!!
Yes, RadioShack! How do they stay in business? seriously. I don't get it....of all the chains to shutter the last 2 years...Circuit City, Linens & Things, KB Toys, RadioShack still remains profitable? What reason is there to enter one of these stores? Anyone have any insight?
tiburon1724 - 03/25/09 20:39
Maybe in some city stores it's because there are no other options, but RadioShack is typically in suburban malls and shopping centers, so a bulk of it's business may be in walk-in wanderers who get sucked in by high pressure salesmen? I don't know...maybe they're getting insane kickbacks from the aforementioned companies which is keeping them afloat.
metalpeter - 03/25/09 20:03
I still go back to the knowledge base. If you go to best buy it is some young kid who doesn't know what he is talking about. I think Best Buy is pretty cool myself and if I wanted a TV that is where I might go. "Hold on I have a call on my police scanner, they are talking about this same subject and it turns out lots of Private Eyes and spies and law enforcement go there and that is what keeps them open", Ha kidding of course. That being said A lot of people go there for movies and CDs. I think radio shack is good if you you just want like something you need. I also wonder if it is a city thing. What I mean is in Buffalo not sure about other places but Radio Shack used to be all over the city and to go to Places like circuit city you have to go out to the burbs. It would be interesting to have a real answer instead of just guesses.
tiburon1724 - 03/25/09 19:25
yes back in the day they had Tandy, Remote Control Cars, and were the only destination for most of what you've mentioned, but that's not the case anymore....they've done nothing to differentiate themselves in the market. They sell cell phones...well so does everyone else. They sell Sirius/XM...well so does everyone else. They sell DirecTV systems...well so does everyone else. They sell silly robotic toys...well so does everyone else. It's not like they're inexpensive, and their 59 cent XYZ to QWP adaptors etc don't bring in enough revenue to sustain a business...but their stock seems somewhat stable and while they did close a bunch of locations a little while back, there's no panic surrounding them for some reason. As someone in retail, it baffles me. There's a job posted for RadioShack District Mgr here, I might apply in hopes to interview just so I can ask! lol
metalpeter - 03/25/09 18:27
Not sure if this is true any more, but Radio Shack is where you get the techy stuff. If you have a TV that you want to hook up that is where you go to get all the wires and they will tell you how to do it. All those places with geek squad and firedog or what ever they are called are all copying what Radio Shack was. If you want to listen in on the cops go to radio shack. You want to make a Ham Radio or short wave radio go to radio shack. The only place that used to sell remote control cars was radio shack. They have all ways had the image of being the place where the people who know about Geek stuff work and do it for fun. Plus they used to sell IBM computers but call them Tandy or what ever they where. In fact I might be going there on my day off so I can get a Memory card reader. On a side note they don't put a lot of money into ads. They also don't have huge stores. If you go in and ask for some thing they can tell you if they have it. They have small stores that they don't have to pay to heat that are the size of target. I'm guessing that the stuff they sell they have a better profit margin on it.
jason - 03/25/09 16:57
Circuit City was very badly mismanaged. I don't know about the rest. Circuit City had nearly the same amount of employees Radio Shack currently has.
libertad - 03/25/09 13:45
i don't get it either.

and the hotel
Category: buffalo
Here is the hotel that will be part of Avant. Taking reservations beginning July 1!
tiburon1724 - 03/25/09 00:20
that's true, there is always a hotel...wonder if there's some sort of tax break/incentive attached or something
tinypliny - 03/24/09 15:27
We need hotels, people.
janelle - 03/24/09 09:43
lol @ (e:James). It's so true!
james - 03/24/09 08:57
It isn't a project in Buffalo unless there is a hotel attached.
