Yitg'dalCategory: crash
I had this dread today that someone who I knew was on board the plane that crashed.
An hour or two ago I got an e-mail from my synagogue mailing list informing us that our cantor, Susan Wehle, died in the crash. I didn't know her very well, but she was a lovely person, had a beautiful singing voice, and was very enthusiastic about her job. She was the person who would have done the blessings at Ari's bris if the Rabbi weren't around last April.
We'll miss you, Susan.

Mittens for KittensCategory: politics
Every time I hear talk for/against the stimulus package, this video I saw a year and a half ago keeps playing through my mind.
I hope for all our sakes that President Obama will be careful to strategically place bacon in the right areas to fix the economy and not listen to stupid people who would dilute the spending into powerlessness.

Winging a guessCategory: food
I'm at Duff's right now my car's getting some maintenance. And while I am looking at my plate of wings I ponder one of the great mysteries of life: why is something as bad for you as wings almost always served with celery? I've never understood it. Are you supposed to eat the celery and then pretend that it balances out the enormous amount of fat you've put into your arteries? Or is there some more sinister purpose for this bizarre paradox?

I don't remember the exact reason but what (e:Vincent) says is very close to the reason. There is something that it does to the taste or is supposed to do to the taste in your mouth. It is kinda like when you (from what I have heard) taste wine there is some cracker they give you. I'm sorry I don't remember the exact effect, that I was told about. Some places also now give carrots instead I guess they are prepackaged and don't go bad just a guess and they go with Blue Cheese also. But why ruin a great wing with moldy cheese that tastes gross.

They can be used as an edible spreader for application of bleu cheese to the wing.

Well I have always found the the celery helps sooth the sting from the hot sauce.

When I was a kid they came with carrots, too, which disappeared for a while but have started showing up again here and there. I always figured the vegetables & blue cheese were to cut the spiciness. Also, if you're eating pepperoni pizza & wings, that can be a lot of oily food to eat at once. The celery gives you something to munch on between servings to let your aorta catch up a little.
Lately I've taken to putting the blue cheese dressing on the pizza crust, which I always kind of regarded as a really dry and boring breadstick getting in the way of my next slice.

Because you eat the wings for the blue cheese, at least I do. Celery gives you additional warm sticks to dip.

I have NEVER got this.
Probably just a tradition. Maybe in the old days they didn't get enough wings to fill you up or something.

Actually I liked the ad. Then again I once would hook up with goth chicks, who's pedigree of music does include 80's New Wave.
Now if some company RickRoll's with a Rick Astley commercial, then we will have serious cause for concern. :::link:::

Just so you know some people do like that song on that ad, or at the very least get that beat stuck in their head.

Oh man. I feel bad for you and your congregation.
Oh no. Lord rest her.
