This weekend
I was very domestic (aka broke and didn't go out). I was also contemplating moving. When I have a big decision to make, I'm stressed or sad I cook and clean. Yes, I've turned into my mother.

Friday night:

  • Note to self: no matter how cheap snow crablegs may seem ($6.99 a lb.) They are NOT worth the effort to get the meat out. I'm a king crab leg only kinda girl.
image
  • This is prob the most wasteful invention ever, but I know Maria Visco totes uses these. They are bags you can microwave veggies in. They were $1 a box on sale. They actually work pretty well.

Saturday:

This is one of my favorite foods- Eggplant. I love it breaded and baked. I made this and ate it all day Saturday.

Sunday:

  • Bean and pancetta soup. OMG this is so good (and low cal). The one drawback is sometimes I think I'm cooking for me and my family of 12. Then I remember after I make enough for a small army I don't have a family of 12 and I'll now be eating this soup for the entire winter.

Your cooking is gorgeous. ;-)

2 weekends ago
This is what I did:

image
Got pretty nails at Dashing Divas
Then we stopped at a bar where I found $10, had a drink (using said $10), and forbid anyone from eating the peanuts. *update: see Mike's comment as to why you should not indulge in community peanuts.

image
We then wandered around the East Village and stopped for some delicious pork belly.

I also found out that the building where my ex-bf lives is also the same place where Cate went to a party with a sex swing. Just a fun fact.
hodown - 10/13/08 17:51
Exactly my point. I don't seem so OCD now do I?
mike - 10/13/08 17:49
some bar tenders I know have talked about how the nuts just all get poured back in a bag at the end of th night and poured back out so like some of those nuts could be from opening night 1942.
hodown - 10/13/08 14:05
James- There really no dirty details. On our way to pork belly I was like "Oh Josh lives in that bldg." Then Cate was like "Really, I went to a party there and there was a sex swing in the apartment." That was pretty much the extent of it..
james - 10/13/08 13:57
Come on! You can't mention a party with a sex sling and not go into sloppy detail!
hodown - 10/13/08 13:26
OMG- you've never had prok belly?! The reason we ordered it was because we'd just had a discussion where we all decided that there was never a time when we wouldn't eat it because it's SO good. It's basically fat and a bit of crispy pork.

And no one was allowed to eat the peanuts because they were in a dish on the table. In NYC public bowls of nuts are not to be touched. You only eat them if you seem them refilled and they are fresh.
paul - 10/13/08 13:19
1. Is pork belly just bacon?
2. Why would you forbid people form eating the peanuts?

Hello Kitty, my love
This is the weird/amazing Japaneese display near my work:

I'd be excited if I knew what a MMORPG was?!
james - 10/13/08 13:19
I heard a rumor too strange for me to verify.

A Hello Kitty MMORPG goes into beta testing soon.

Enjoy

I was just thinking how I missed the San Rio store at the Rainbow mall. That place looks so ghetto looking, even the winter gardens is empty.

Random
Again I've lost my debit card. That make for a total of 3 times this year. I'm really annoyed with myself. I called the bank today to order a replacement. 7-10 business days. That's 2 weeks of cash only transactions. I suppose I should look at it like I'm saving money. No more impluse dress purchases.

The whole steak and champagne thing with Thomas may not happen. I was way to optimistic in assuming we could be friends. He's started with the "love talk" and asking if I plan to sleep over when he's in town. It makes me sad because there are many things about him that I hold dear and to never speak to him again seems odd.

I'm considering moving. My friend in MANHATTAN is giving up her place to move in with her boyfriend. The place is at the very tippy top of the island, but my mailing address would still be New York, NY. Anyone want to take a roadtrip to the city to help me move?

I'm wearing the world's cutest headband.
Somehow it's not as cute as I thought it would be on. I refuse to give up on it quite yet though.

3 weeks until Buffalo. I can not wait. I miss my friends there so much. This is the longest ever I've not gone home. Yes, in my heart I'll always consider Buffalo my home.

Ok that's the extent of what I have going on right now. I'm trying not to seem so vapid in my blog. I guess I've just been going through a weird time in my life lately and blogging too deeply about feelings and all that is off limits. Hopefully soon I'll be back to my old self..
jason - 10/10/08 15:08
When I lost mine this summer, I told "Marvin" on the phone 7-10 days wasn't good enough. He offered it in 2-3 instead. I've heard some banks even will print them off at the branch. THAT is the kind of service I need. Apparently you too, fuckin tether the next card to your wrist por favor!

Amazing Illustrations
By now everyone knows of my adoration of all things Mad Men and late 50's. The disfunctional family situations combined with the non stop boozing and sexing in the office make me wish I was born around 1945.

So my point of all this is some amazing genius on flicker has created a set of mid century illustrations that depict certain key scenes from Mad Men. I salute this amazing human. Below are some of my favorites:

image

image
  • Oh the good old days when you could drink AND drive. Note: I don't actually approve of drinking and driving. I just find it funny that people were so ok with it.

image

image
  • I might make this my birthday invitation. Or a birth announcement for my first girl. Either occasion seems to fit.

image
  • An illustration of a OBGYN visit? Awesome.
tinypliny - 10/08/08 21:04
Hmmm.. I won't fit in at all. I can't booze and I am not sexed up. I hate cigarette smoking in spirit, and.. well I hate it every way possible. It's the number one cause of preventable morbidity across the world and I personally have seen families floundering because of this 40s-50s style of living.
hodown - 10/08/08 17:48
It's the obgyn. Apparently back in the day they smoked while doing everything.
gardenmama - 10/08/08 17:44
Is that the OBGYN smoking or the woman?
mrmike - 10/08/08 14:02
That is so damn cool
