Political I need to vent - sorry
Category: family
I received the below e-mail from one of my (very conservative Republican... or in this case maybe Fascist) uncles today. Normally, I just delete the political crap they (he and my other uncle) send me because it usually burns my ass to read it, and ALMOST makes me love them just a little less. Even just the first (well second) statement “These are NOT taken out of context…” is nonsense. Of course they’re out of context... if they were in context, they would be surrounded by the rest of the book ... duh! Anyway, it is totally this kind of BULLSHIT that perpetuates racism, ignorance, fear, and hate. It makes me want to SCREAM!! The really horrible part is that there are a bunch of whack-jobs out there who will send this CRAP to a bunch of other whack-jobs and it eventually will end up in the hands of the masses, many of whom aren’t really too bright themselves and could possible be influenced by this STUPIDITY! Aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh (that’s me screaming)!

[box]Hi, DIRECT QUOTES from Obama from his books. These are NOT taken out of context--but his own words.

From Dreams of My Father: 'I ceased to advertise my mother's race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites.'

From Dreams of My Father: 'I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother's race.'

From Dreams of My Father: 'There was something about him that made me wary, a little too sure of himself, maybe. And white.'

From Dreams of My Father: 'It remained necessary to prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names.'

From Dreams of My Father: 'I never emulate white men and brown men whose fates didn't speak to my own. It was into my father's image, the black man, son of Africa , that I'd packed all the attributes I sought in myself , the attributes of Martin and Malcolm, DuBois and Mandela.'

And FINALLY the Most Damning one of ALL of them!!!

From Audacity of Hope: 'I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.'

  • If you have never forwarded an e-mail, now is the time to Do so!!! We CANNOT have someone with this type of mentality running our GREAT nation!! I don't care whether you are Democrat or a Conservative. We CANNOT turn ourselves over to this type of character in a President. PLEASE help spread the word!!!![/box]

My god, I sometimes can't even fathom how we remotely came out of the same gene pool - WTF!!!!

jason - 10/09/08 07:21
I've been getting my share of forwards as well. I have no idea why people pass that stuff around. Just auto-delete, that's what I do!
tinypliny - 10/08/08 22:55
Okay, off topic reference and comment, earlier. I should have also said it's possible that your immediate parents had a completely different set of genes controlling political preferences and thought patterns as compared to even their siblings. Social environment influences attitudes a LOT.
tinypliny - 10/08/08 22:47
I am not sure you did come out the same gene pool. Even though you and your weirdo neighbour might be, for all purposes, "white", you might genetically be from completely opposite sides of your continent of ancestry.

A little getaway
Ah, a long weekend away at a beautiful little lake in PA... now that's something to look forward to. My sister and I (we share a cottage), and my brother and his clan (they have their own cottage), have been making this trek every year for the past 5 years on Columbus Day weekend. This seems to be perfect timing for Fall foliage, and, so far, we’ve been super lucky in terms of it not being too cold. Here’s a pic. of the view from our back door there. It's very relaxing.

The Lake in the a.m. - great with a cup of coffee!

theecarey - 10/09/08 10:43
very nice! That looks like a perfect fall weekend get-away. I feel wistful for that cup of early morning coffee looking out at the fog over the lake. Nice pics!
tinypliny - 10/08/08 20:43
Wow! Looks beautiful and very serene! Enjoy your time! :)

More car crud
OK - so my car saga goes on... this is like some weird, bad novel. Ends up my mom's car, that I borrowed because mine broke, needs some stupid window motor and some other regulator thing... Price tag $585. There aren't any after-factory available (old car) but my brother can get dealer cost at, oh, $360ish - PARTS ONLY. Thank god he knows about cars - he's going to go junkyarding and try to find a window motor for less and put in in at home (so I don't have to pay labor at his work) - he's such a great guy.

Tonight's Debate
I'm really hoping the candidates decide to discuss some pertinent issues tonight; but my fear is they're going to engage in a lot more clawing and backbiting than tackling of issues (reminds me of some past relationships I've had - yikes). Maybe we should just throw some gloves on them and shove them into the ring to get it over with and then they can go on to the issues. Guess we’ll see soon enough.
gardenmama - 10/08/08 00:07
If the people are considered "the masses" and the politicians are debating is this considered...

masdebating?
tiburon1724 - 10/08/08 00:02
I hate these "town hall" style debates....hey random person, would you read a question you've never seen before off this card and make it extremely obvious it's really not a question from you? Thanks. Kinda undermines the whole thing.

Good is a relative term, I think. It was interesting (but my sister said she fell asleep during it). I find myself annoyed by McCain always callin the audience "my friends" especially when I don't really feel that friendly toward him or his policies. I watched on CNN and they do this meter read with undecideds - overall, Obama seemed to do better with the women and McCain with the men. The pundits appear to generally feel Obama came out ahead, I'm inclined to agree. I am still bothered overall by the attacks on each other. I think they could get in a lot more information if they simply stated their stances and let the people compare them themselves. But I guess they both feel "compelled" to point out what they believe are mis-truths in each other's b.s. Oh, the wonderful world of politics. I can honestly say when this one is over I will be glad (well, really only if there's a Democrat in the White House - but you get what i mean.)
paul - 10/07/08 22:55
Argh, I missed it - was it good?
tinypliny - 10/07/08 21:57
Yes, people need to treat them like they are on a leash. They need to be accountable to the people, not just evade answers and babble on and on till the end of time.
metalpeter - 10/07/08 20:49
They all speak so well that they never just come out and answer the question they kinda answer it in there own way in like a circle. I hope since it is town hall style someone comes up with some good questions and the next person says "could you both answer the question that was just asked"

Just stuff
  • No boss at work today - somehow that always makes things go a little more smoothly.

  • It appears I didn't crack the engine block in my car - just tore up the alternator belt - replaced it about a month ago - will have to have it replaced again. Boy - did it make a stink.

  • Bought some of those black & decker plug-in things that are supposed to make some super high frequency pitch sound to keep bugs away - they don't work on fruit flies - sick of those litte bastards.

  • Bought some Edy's Espresso Chip ice cream for company last night - it's fabulous! Talk about best of everything - ice cream, espresso, chocolate chips - yum! Next best thing to Andersen's coffee bean ice cream.

  • Overall - not a bad day.

OK - I might be able to beat that - I borrowed one of my mom's cars (she has 2) while mine was being worked on. So my brother fixed my car and it only cost about $55. - pretty good, right? Well, I picked my daughter up from school (in my mom's car). It was a little stuffy in the car and smells bad (I'm not so good at the cig. smell since I quit) so I had the window open. My daughter gets in and puts her window down most of the way. We get almost to my house, rolling up the windows and her side won't go up. It, of course, is an electronic window, so now I have to go pick up my car where my bro works and drop off my mom's to be fixed. How much that will cost me I have no idea. In addition, when I came out of work yesterday, her cup holder was broken off and on the floor of the car - I have to find a replacement for that too. Talk about bad luck - I think I might have you beat this week. Oh, yeah, I had lightbulbs burn out in 4 lights in my house this week, and I have to replace the furnace for the upstairs apartment in my house too. On the bright side, I got a tax refund of $227 yesterday, but then I got a bill from my daughter's school for $350ish for books, a field trip, parent association, and some incidentals today. Aaaaaaahhhhhh!! I bet you feel better about your dent now.
tinypliny - 10/07/08 21:52
Good to hear it not the engine (I have no idea what you are talking about, but I am assuming its a good thing?).
joshua - 10/07/08 21:13
Get this - on the way home from work a rock hit our windshield and now I have a nice impact mark! My luck is crap! Haha.
joshua - 10/07/08 14:38
Oh - losing a belt stinks but having a crack in the engine block is the coup de gras. I'm not sure if you have bad luck or good luck, seeing as the belt was only replaced last month!
