Someone sent this to me at work - it really made me laugh. It was captioned:
"My assessment so far"
Well, you betcha!

Back to the mundane - part IIHere is the rest of the junk I scored on my trip over the weekend. The fiesta gravy dish is actually really nice and in great shape - no chips. The other two items are for my shadow box - they're each about 2 inches tall. The red barn is the cottage we stayed in. It's not bad for a cottage - 3 bedrooms, 1 1/2 baths, large kitchen and living room, lakefront property, pots and pans and dishes, etc. You just bring your linnens, food, and clothes. It was pretty reasonably priced too.

ooh I think you did well on the gravy boat. I had been looking at a single place setting for $35-40 and saw among other things, gravy boats exactly like this. Online they go for as little as the low twenties and as high as the mid thirties, then there is shipping..so consider $18 a good deal!

Maybe I should try the "rub it" thing and see if it makes all my wishes come true - that would really be a bargain!

I like that odd shaped house. The green thing looks like it might spring a genie when you rub it. :D

Back to the mundaneI have to say, I couldn’t have asked for better get-away weekend weather than this past weekend. PA was beautiful, as was the ride along the 90 into PA. The colors were varied and vibrant - just glorious! The pix below don’t do justice to the actual beauty but they are a small indicator.
This trip was a little unusual in that the lake we stay at is dropped every year by about 2.5 feet around the 1st of November. This year they dropped the lake early so they could conduct some repairs on the dam. It was the first time we’ve been there after the lake was dropped - it was kind of cool. My brother, nonetheless, found a way to get his little sailboat into the lake for his maiden voyage. He was so excited. There wasn’t much wind but he did manage to catch just enough breeze to make it work.
My family members are all pretty avid thrifters so we had to take the obligatory trip into town to hit the thrift stores, and the rinky-dink flee market. I wasn’t too enthusiastic (more interested in hanging out relaxing) but it actually turned out ok for me. I found a shadow box, a 6 qt. pressure cooker, and a Fiesta gravy boat. The first two were very reasonable, the last, not quite as much.
It was hard going back to work today. Should have taken one extra day off to get myself re-settled. Trying to decide if I want to watch the last debate or not - inclined toward not at this point - just plain sick of all the rhetoric and talking heads. With things the way they are right now, it’s hard to imagine anyone actually even wanting the job. Kind of makes you have to wonder a little about anyone who wants it.
Work sucked, the house still needs to be cleaned, laundry to get done, kid bullshit to deal with, retirement account down 16 percent with the finance mess, blah, blah, blah...
I want to go on vacation again!
Our Campfire
The view right out our back door
Lots of geese
My mom and sister digging up rocks to take home for the garden - they're a little strange sometimes - but they got cool rocks
My brother's sail boat
Maiden voyage - he was so happy
My pressure cooker find - good deal
My shadow box - another good deal

Yes, as in fiesta ware. It's green and it cost $18. I actually haven't any idea if that was good or bad - I just know it was more than I wanted to pay; but I liked the size and shape of it and have been looking for one for some time. It's in my sink (with some other dirty dishes) waiting to be washed. I'll take a pic of that when it's clean.

a few things:
a few things:
- I'm glad it was a great weekend for you and the family. The weather looked simply perfect!
- my mom would be out there picking out rocks too.
- LOVE the view of the pier leading out to the boat.
- wait, where is the fiesta gravy boat? and would that be fiesta, as in "fiesta ware"? I used to be obsessed with that line of dishes, then my propensity to break things led me to simple second-hand finds of the non fiesta ware variety.

That must have been the English influence - my son's grandmother used to cook tons of stuff in the pressure cooker (they were very English). The problem with them those is that they don't use much in the way of spices. No doubt your mum's cooking was much tastier. I've never actually used one but my sister swears by hers, and sometimes it's nice to be able to cook a whole pot meal quickly. I'll let you know how I do with it. Need to find some recipes first.

Those are some beautiful pictures!! Thanks for sharing. :)
OMG! I thought only Indian mums were obsessed with pressure cookers. My mum actually threw out some of my clothes from my suitcase to stash a pressure cooker in when I wasn't looking!! And I have not used it more than once these past 3 years. I use my rice-cooker for all steam-cooking with some strategic pre-soaking.

Happy Weekend!OK - I don't want to jinx myself, but the weather for this weekend looks like it's going to be fabulous. I don't think I could wish for any better. My mom has decided she's going to come with me and my sister for the weekend getaway, which is really cool because the lake is near the little town where she grew up in PA. She's not so keen on my brother's lady friend but that's ok, they're in another cottage - we can always escape.
MrMike - I hope your dad has a happy birthday, and thanks for dragging my kid along, I appreciate it.
Enjoy your weekend everyone - I'll post pix of my trip when I get back.

What the hell - why not - that's usually what I do with yours. Oh, wait, ours isn't suburban - so that's ok then.

Weird pet stuffWhenever I’m getting ready for a trip, my dog acts strange. Everywhere I go she’s right on my heels. And she looks at me differently. It’s like she knows I’m going somewhere and she’s afraid I’m going to leave her behind. I find it very odd. She doesn’t act like that in the morning when I’m getting ready to go to work. Freaky little animal. She is really cute though.
That's both really funny and awesome.
