Happy EarthdayCategory: holidays
I will be the first to admit that I don't recycle like I should and I do know that. But what I'm talking about is the movement to "Go Green". Yes it is cool and hip and Responsible to go green. But there is a big warning don't do what you are told to do, then think you are saving the planet, please do the research and find out for your self. We Americans are often lazy sheep who think we are the saviors of everyone. I will give two examples.
Light Bulbs: There are all these great light bulbs that save energy and this and that. Well some of them have mercurry (you know the guy from queen) in them. Well so no big deal that is until everyone throws them out and you get lots of soil contamination. We here all these car companies say they have cars that take ethonal. Well that is great except for the fact of that there isn't really a gas station to buy it yet. Plus to make it they have to take wheat so that makes it higher demand and that means we won't have any wheat. It isn't like they have these 40 story buildings where they grow supper wheat just to make fuel out of. I won't get into the paper vs. plastic debate. My point is just because someone says this is more eco friendly look into it your self.
Here is the part that bothers me. I never hear anyone talk about how the system is messed up and how the way society has changed affects the eco system and out planet. For example in the good old days you worked where you live and vise versa. There aren't to many people left like that, yeah there is a small percentage of people who work in stores where they live. But most people live out in the burbs somewhere and come into the city or vise versa. The commute is really one of the big problems. If getting to work with out a car took 20 minutes then you could walk or bike or some not as breathing air destroying vehicle. This is the same with people who trek it to the mall and back. What that does is makes lots of people car and therefore gas dependent. Since people can't give them up there really isn't any incentive $$$ for the car companies to do any thing. I think that all this car company stuff is so that it looks like they are trying to save the buyers money and has nothing to do with being cleaner it is a marketing ploy, But I'm a synic so..l The other thing that happens is the sense of community is gone. Yes there are block clubs and stuff in the city. But the real reasons for those is crime and that the people in them can remember when you could ask you nieghboor for a cup of sugar and later they could borrow the salt. People lived and worked together and even if you didn't like each other still felt community. When people feel that they help keep up the place clean and don't throw garbage everywhere. Yes there are recycling bins now and they didn't do that then. But now in a lot of places if you throw trash in the field or at the bus stop no one cares.
Here is what bothers me about the car companies. Lots of them tell you right in the ad how many MPG's they get. Well most people think wow that is pretty good. But what none of them tell is how much do you get in stop and go traffic. That is really more important anyways. When you go on a trip yeah you get on a high way but what about traffic jams and driving in the city. Then if you drive on your way to work you all ways do a little bit of it. But see they don't want to say that cause then they don't sound as good, see it is all a ploy to get you to buy their brand of car.
I think any company that says or promotes going green, needs to by law disclose on the web (should be paperless) how they do things.
what do they recycle and if they don't what is being implemented along those lines. I think that they need to prove that they are trying to do what they are using as a selling point.
I will admit I'm not very eco friendly at all. Where I live they have no recycling. Papers get thrown out or shreaded. To lazy to do things with batteries and glass bottles. I wish I was more green. I don't have a compost pile behind my house. But I'm also not really a hypocrite I don't sit here and say I'm saving the world because I joined the Sabres Go Green plan. Ok I guess my rant is over, by the way the next holiday is Business adminastrators day or something like that is that what used to be Secerteries day or is that bosses day or is it some mixture. So happy earth day everyone.

metalpeter you are awesome. You don't have to be particular to any one grocery to use their bags in other groceries. I use my co-op bags in Wegmans and everywhere. Nobody has ever complained about me not taking a plastic bag. You are very intelligent about everything you are talking about. Just because something says that it is better for our environment doesn't equate with being green. You are right about cattle, but don't forget that all animal product is also detrimental to the well being of our planet. I am still struggling to deal with my own destructive habits. It isn't easy being green.

I will admit I don't have canvas bags because it would mean that first I had to commit to a store and second I would need take them on a bus with me. But the nice thing about Canvas is that they can be used for other things like going to the beach or going for a walk. Plus the Black Wegman's bags from a distance look pretty cool. I guess the part that drives me the most insane is that you hear all this stuff about being "Eco-Friedly" (and yes a lot of it is a good idea). But they are never address the real issues like consume less, lets live in a city or town or village and have things close together lets not run away from the city as soon as we have money. I wish I had the math skills to figure out if some one quit there job and got rid of there car and got a job that pays a lot less money but that they can walk to in five minutes if they would make more or less money. I think that people should consider it. don't get me wrong I'm not anti car at all, but when people have to use them then they kinda do become a slave to the car. I do think that ethonol or other forms of fuel in America is a pipe dream. I don't know how it compares price wise but eniges can be run on Pure alcohol, Laugbing Gas, Diesal, gas, natural gas, Pure Oils. I will admit I'm not even close to eco friendly I wish I was but for me it won't happen. That reminds me there is another way that you can be eco friendly that no one talks about don't eat beef. How is that being good to the earth you might ask well all that cattle that is raised somewhere has to eat food, someone figured out that if you didn't raise cattle there would be more food in the world then by raising them.

not everything has to be about recycling. you can do more by lowering your consumption of certain products. for example, using a washable napkin versus paper, buying products with minimal packaging, using canvas totes for your groceries- that kind of stuff. it's a lifestyle really, like anything, it just takes a few weeks to create that new habit :)

420 and stuffCategory: drugs
So I hope everyone had a great 420 even if smokin up isn't your thing still hope it was good. Yesterday I rewatched fight club it had been so long since I had seen it really is pretty good and a little bit out there. I also watched Attack Of the show it is on the G4 network and they where in Jamica for their 420 show. It wasn't only about that and not only about the country and it was pretty interesting and they even had a guy at a couple places in Toronto. Part of my day was walking around "The Strip" shall we say and two of the pictures I took are about some new way to get high, I don't know if it works and I'm not sure who this group is but it is something to think about. It kinda fits in with the show because it also had to do with Mushrooms and even a Tea they make with them and they mentioned some kind of weed tea also. In Jammica I didn't know weed is illegal I all ways assumed that it wasn't a crime to smoke it at all. Well here are some pictures.

For those that don't know I'm not for decriminalising weed. I think it should be made legal and sold in stores with smokes but that companies can't add all the stuff that they ad to cigs. Then you can tax places that grow it, importation and the sales and use a certain percentage of that tax to go into education (real facts not propoganda and lies) and into rehab for people that want it. I don't think that will ever happen because the Beer and "Smokes" company poor a lot of money into the campaign Against drugs, not to mention all the legal drug companies that could lose out if weed and other drugs became legal.
Here are some pictures of the Blue Cross & Blue shield building.

I hope people are enjoying this lovely weather because I'm guessing soon a lot of us will have the air conditioners on and complaining that it is to hot or that it is raining all the time I'm going with the hot.

First of all I want to say that I'm not sure who the group is who put this up and what they stand for so I'm not endorsing them or using stuff like that to get high, I should have made that more clear. If I where to try getting high that way I would and hope no one else would do it alone, there should all ways be someone who isn't high around when people get high encase there is a problem of some kind. I just found it very interesting that this was on sort of like a mailbox thing out in public and wonder if more of this kind of thing gets posted on "The Strip".
In terms of Where the Blue Cross building is I'll describe it the best I can. 4th and Gennesse. It is down near the high way that separates the laSalle park and the waterfront from the westside and downtown Buffalo. It is kinda past and behind City hall. It is close to the Silver channel 7 building. It is close to the street that takes you down to the waterfront. from there you can kinda walk next to a road that goes under the highway. It is past that post office in the picture. I guess that is the best way I know how to explain it.

Thanks for the pics! Looks like Buffalo skipped spring and went straight to summer. BTW, where exactly is the blue cross blue shield building? A bunch of us were trying to figure out the locations of the buffalo sculpture photos at the Roswell cafeteria. I think the red buffalo might have been posing in front of this building.

Nice pictures. Those Morning Glory seeds that are mentioned on that sign can be very dangerous. Not just because they are drugs but because they often lace them with toxic chemicals to deter people from ingesting them. IF you were ever to eat them, I would suggest growing them first and then collecting your own seeds and not eating the seeds directly out of the package.
From the Natural High's FAQ www.erowid.org :::link:::
Most commercially available Morning glory seeds are treated with chemicals to thwart consumption. Seeds are also sometimes treated with Methyl mercury to prevent spoilage. Chemically treated seeds can cause severe nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

Buffalo & WaterfrontCategory: photos
Yesterday it was very nice out so before I went to the Bandits game I went to see The Forbidden Kingdom, I thought it was a very good movie. If Marital arts is your kind of movie you would like it. But before that I went to the Marina and walked around Buffalo. Here is a little picture salute of what I saw this is to kinda see how they look when they are posted I have more to say in another journal where the pictures go the other way.

Part 2 Buffalo UnexpectedCategory: photos
It seems that this weekend or at least Saturday there has been a theme of things being unexpected. For that reason alone I will do the unexpected and not post any Bandits Pictures. The plan was to go to the bank then go see a movie. I'm pretty much on time then after that I was supposed to go get a sign and make copies of it as a way to mess with that dude at work but me running late caused that not to happen. Another unexpected thing was the bandits starting out strong in their game vs. The Shamrox but going down either 3 or 4 to 0 and then coming back and winning the game. The Idea of me going to the arena would have been silly any other year. But two unexpected things happened to cause this. The first was Labatt having a pond championship here and then the fact that the ice wasn't thick enough. So what did the do for the kids they iced over parking lots at the Marina. That lead to the second Unexpected part of Mayor Brown opening up the marina after that so now it will be open all year long.
So on my way downtown I did take a few pictures and I took a few afterwards to, and I just remembered some pictures I forgot to resize to upload oh well. Once I got to the marina I thought that I had enough time to (again if not for the train I would have been wrong here again) go see the ships and that tower. It was unexpectedly warm to me and as I was walking the wall I saw something odd. I saw some very nice cars go by. Then I noticed it was a funeral . I figured that is odd when they turn around I will get pictures. At the about the same time the canoers in the water where way ahead of me and going through the ice. As I got closer I quickly figured out that they where not just here as a way to relax afterwards. Paul Bearers pulled out a casket and people stood around it. I wasn't even going to try and get close enough to what they where saying. It struck me as odd that this was in such a public place. I also felt like I should take some pictures but I have to do it in a respectful way and stay away since I didn't know the person I almost felt like I shouldn't be there. That being said it did look like a nice way to go out. Here are the pictures that are possible because of things being unexpected. Maybe later in the week some other pictures will show up on here.

harold and Kumar are HILARIOUS!! What kind of music is Avenue Q?
