The most fucking awesome lamp in the universe...is in MY house.
It's a plant lamp. The lamp rod is inside of a large plastic basin that holds lots of soil into which three cute little house plants are planted.
Hold onto your seats, this is the exciting part.....
To turn the lamp on and off, you don't use a typical on and off lamp switch. Oh, no my friends. You gently touch one of the leaves of the plant to turn it on and again to turn it off!
Science is an awesome thing!

Divorce and the HolidaysCategory: family
As many of you have read on this blog, my parents are in the process of divorcing. Yesterday was their first court hearing. Although I haven't heard the outcome, I'm pretty sure that by Thanksgiving or Christmas, the parents will not be sharing the same roof anymore. So I will be transitioning into that weird situation of how to handle the holidays. I think they'll both be living in the same town, so that will help. I'll be in IL with them for Thanksgiving and doing Xmas here in Buffalo. My plan for Xmas is to invite everyone (brother and both parents and grandmother) in the family to celebrate here and let them decide who wants to come.
Any advice from those with experience in juggling divorced parents and holidays?

Lol, I can only hope we spend Xmas fighting over who gets to use silverware and who has to eat with their hands. That should make the traditional Xmas Eve clam chowder meal more interesting!

Yep, invite everyone and see who turns up. Sometimes, its just surprising because everyone turns up thinking the other's aren't going to turn up... and then you have shortage of silverware.

I also agree with your idea to bring them to your place for the holiday...that way they both have to travel equally and it is neutral turf for both. Also, having the option to leave whenever they get uncomfortable is good.
Hopefully they will be able to put their differences aside without too much pretending in order for everyone involved to enjoy family togetherness.

Sorry I've never been in a similar situation but I do think inviting them all here is a good idea. It lets them all decide if they can put aside their differences for the holidays instead of you having to choose in which someone would end up hurt. Good luck! I hope it all goes well!

I don't have any helpful advice, either. I know it's not about you, even if it affects you. Good luck... and keep your chin up. They still love you!

I have no helpful advice, but I hope the situation is as painless as possible for you.

Sims UpdateCategory: sims
My sim was in a bit of a rut.
Work, study, work socialize, work, study, work, socialize.
So she treated herself to a pool now that she makes the big bucks as a specialist:
Yeah, I look that good in a bikini in real life too.
She also acquired a lover to shake things up:
It's just a matter of time before she seduces Joey Johnson into marriage.

The parable of the Greedy Sim...... in the Gospel of Janelle
Drew wanted the good life right away and bought a big mansion with no money to fill it....
He had no money left to buy a smoke detector or buy books to learn how to cook, so....
Despite his best efforts...
But greed has now led to....
Now, Janelle who started modestly, studied hard, and saved her money, is living the big life....

The SimsCategory: sims
I've had some time on my hand so I've reinstalled the ole Sims game. I take pride in starting from scratch and not using the money cheat code.
Here's my modest new dwellings:
And here I am:
I'm in the medical career and I just got a promotion to intern. It's been hard to do all the socializing and studying I need to be a resident.
Not much interesting now, but I have three potential boyfriends lined up that I'm courting. More on that later, peeps....

oh crap... which sims is that? I haven't played it in years, but the other day was in the apple store [that iphone credit is burning a hole in my pocket] and came THIS CLOSE to buying the whole Sims I set- all the expansion packs and everything. But then didn't, since I had bought a wii about ten minutes earlier, and the last thing I need is more ways to waste time... (since like you, I am in the medical field and have a hard time doing all the socializing and studying I need to be a resident.)

does Drew know?
does Drew know?
ZOMG POST A PHOTO YES YES!!!!!
That is frickin sweet!
Thanks for the link (e:Drew).
Sorry to make you blush with my sailor language.
I was just so excited about writing about the plant lamp that it just slipped right out =)
Ours looks different, but you can see/get one here:
:::link:::
My wife cusses like a sailor. It's kind of cute, but sometimes embarrassing (and I guess I don't like it when I am on the receiving end).
Janelle doesn't have digital picture technology, but I do and will post a picture upon my return to Buffalo.
We got the lamp from my family. My Dad once sold them at our flower shop. Apparently they are still available in Europe--I will see what I can google.
Hehe...did everyone just read over Janelle's profanity? I think its fabulous that a plant lamp would incite such language out of you :) And yes, now that you've got my attention, can we please see a picture???
LOL, (e:zobar), I have no idea and I'm not even sure I've ever seen model name and part number on it. I'll try to find it. Any place in particular to look?
Dude! What's the model name and part number? [Yes, that's geeky. But I need it!]
- Z
Can we see a picture? I can't imagine such a thing.
Hope I don't go wild this Saturday. :)
