Get me to the choppa!
A few weeks ago I noticed a rather low flying helicopter flying over my apt. A few days later I made the connection that there is in fact a hospital only a few blocks away and chances are there will be many helicopters flying overhead. I don't really mind, considering that I can't hear them in the bedroom and they aren't that loud, although they freak the cats out and cause them to go flying into the closet at mach speeds.

Two nights ago Felly beat me at Scrabble by 4 points. Last night I beat her by 5 points, only after she refused to let me lose because she spotted a play that would let me win. I guess it really is all about patience and strategery. Hehe.

Oh yeah. We decided to watch a movie last night through TVLinks which can lend to a certain amount of frustration as the links don't always work OR you can be 20 minutes into a movie and it stops because it refuses to download the rest. So, after 20 minutes of Bridge to Terabithia, we spontaneously chose The Notebook, which turns out is a three hour movie. Ah yes, and I knew it was sad because my lady friends informed of the tears they shared after watching it, but I didn't expect to cry because I am one of those tough girls who only cry when there are animals involved. Well let me tell you, it wasn't like I was bawling, but a single tear welled up in either eye and one even worked its way down a cheek. Sad movie. So very very sad.
mrdeadlier - 08/16/07 11:02
"It wasn't over, it still isn't over!" My wife dragged me into watching that movie some time back and it was much better than I anticipated.
jenks - 08/15/07 20:03
ah yes.... childrens' long awaited heli-pad is open for business, isn't it... I forgot about that.

I loved bridge to terabithia. The book. didn't see the movie.
fellyconnelly - 08/15/07 17:44
:::link::: is a website that is chock full o movies and documentaries and cartoons and whatnot. sometimes they don't load - as can be expected with free movie sites... but there ya go!
imk2 - 08/15/07 13:47
what is TVLinks?

Kitty Poetry
On my fridge I have some "GirlTalk" magnetic poetry. After taking it all out of the plastic baggy one by one and placing it on the bottom half of the fridge I have discovered a fun little game. My cat Sid likes to stretch, put his paws up on the fridge and hence, makes kitty poetry. So far we've got "emotional gossip". Fabulous if you ask me.

Felly is busy making a mush caserole of beef, instant mashed potatos, instant stuffing, and cream of corn soup. I can't wait. Seriously.

I really want to go home for the fair. The fair is practically in my backyard and have gone every year since I was 3. It is one of the home town kinda things where you see everyone you do and don't want to see along with the various carnies that acompany the rides and games. Last year Felly got hit on by the carnie who came up to her, conveniently shoving her rainbow armband in Felly's face and asked her to play her game. Hehe. For those of you who are interested the link is I don't know how to do the little link thingy...anyone wanna share?
fellyconnelly - 08/15/07 00:23
i don't know how he'll do it, but somehow he will end up writing 'feed me bitches' on there...
i know it will happen.
james - 08/14/07 21:29
Well, considering all the crazy ass methods Jackson Mac Low used to write I say you should publish kitty poetry, take Sid on a book tour, and who knows, maybe poet laureate someday.
fellyconnelly - 08/14/07 18:45
at least it was whole wheat stuffing mix!
not my proudest cooking moment.
lauren - 08/14/07 18:32
Okay then nevermind...it does the little link thingy all by itself :)

Corner Kitty Litter Box
In our old house we had the ability to tuck oour kitty litter box away and not have to see it all the time. Now in this shoebox apt. we have been forced to put the litter box in the bathroom. I guess it will bring us closer together. Either way, there is effin kitty litter all over our bathroom floor which is not exactly the most pleasant of things to get stuck to ones feet after taking a shower. So while brainstorming on ways to fix said problem I came up with a corner kitty litter box. And yesterday we went to PetSmart and purhcased one with a lid, a swinging door and triangular shape so its fits snuggly into the corner of our bathroom. However, there is still effin kitty litter on the floor. Alas, what are two girls to do?

Ah! (e:fellyconnelly) just breazed by an old episode of Project Runway and it got me all excited. What gives? Where have Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum been hiding out? I neeeeeeeeed Project Runway!

Moving On. I have now less than two weeks of "vacation" left. On Monday I have orientation. Hehe, the last time I went to orientation I think I was a totally different human being. I was thinking about how, in many ways, New Paltz raised me. Can you really find out who you are until you are on your own? I don't know...either way, orientation on Monday, which I certainly need considering UB us effin huge and rather intimidating to a small town girl like me and because I still feel like I have absoltely no idea what I'm doing here. Then, Monday after next classes start and the fun begins. I haven't driven my car in over three weeks. Felly prefers to drive her car because my car has no AC, no CD player, and the passenger window doesn't go down, so we take her car everywhere we go. So needless to say, I haven't driven much in Buffalo. However, I like to drive and am looking forward to a nice little commute to school, that is at least till it starts to get cold outside. I hate the cold. Like, a lot.

Today's plans: AmVets and The Dollar Store. I can barely contain myself.
fellyconnelly - 08/15/07 00:21
hmmmm i wonder how this will work with a corner kitty box. i want the exit of the litter box to include a paw washing station. do they make a kitty box like that?
jim - 08/14/07 19:00
I turned my litter box around, so the opening faced the wall and if the cat kicked it around, at least it would not spread quite as easy.
fellyconnelly - 08/14/07 18:47
haha chico i was wondering that when i saw the tv commercial... i WANT my cat to find the damn litter box!
aren't you all glad you know about our cats piss now?
lauren - 08/14/07 18:19
The sad part is...one of my cats had/has a urinary tract disease which for a day or two caused him to constantly go to the litter box and sit there for minutes at a time, unable to pee. He would circle and return over and over. We took him to the vet and found out he had crystals in his urine that was blocking his pee hole. So the moral of the story, every time I see these adds where the poor litte kitty can't pee, it makes me sad.
chico - 08/14/07 17:00
There's an idiotic billboard in downtown Buffalo similar to this ad:

:::link:::
Note that it says, "Finding your litter box is hard if you can't smell it."

Does this slogan suggest that if you fill your litter box with Fresh Step, that your cat will piss on the sofa or the floor because it can't find the box? Stupid ad copy. Who thinks this stuff up?
libertad - 08/14/07 15:47
litter boxes suck. btw Tilex is going to kill you. There are alternatives check out my green clean post not too long ago.

Catsup
I've been spending the last few minutes reading all the current journals and sorting out who's who. Felly is very busy playing some skateboarding game with sweet punk music in the background. She has been hogging the computer all morning long while I cry secretly about all the pit bulls that have to be put down because they have been raised for dog fighting and have "dog aggression". And then they go and play this commercial with all these cute little kitten and puppy faces and some sad song in the background....ahhh, I'm a sucker. Moving on.

After our trip out into the real world last night, Felly and I came home and I played Frogger for the first time in my life. Yes indeed, I have been living in a hole in the ground for the last 24 years. I am one of those people who is always the last to find out about the coolest new shit, whether it be because I don't care or possibly because I am too concerned with the last cool thing I just discovered that came out like 3 years ago. Either way, I played Frogger and discovered that I enjoy it a great deal and found myself being rather competitive, which is weird for me because I hate sports and for the most part hate competition, but I think Felly thought it was cute. She still kicked my ass.

Speaking of which, I know it might be a little early for this yet, but the one sport I do enjoy is skiing and I recently got Felly to fall in line. Anyone here ski...or snowboard? I can't snowboard for shit because I refuse to learn after one initial attempt and a week's worth of bruised ass cheeks, but I still think it's really cool and am jealous because of the cool boots you get to wear. Either way, we need a place that has some easy hills for Felly and some fairly difficult ones for me, cause I like to go fast :)

Alright, looks like I can talk after all. I am excited for tonight's event at the Albright Knox. I have this thing where I tend to be afraid of going to new places, so it's always good to have someone coming along who knows what they are doing. Also, Felly's birthday is on Sunday...any suggestions of a nice, not too expensive place to take her? I would like a place with an outdoor option if it is nice weather, but am really open to suggestions, even off the strip. I know she is going to read this but that's fine. I keep saying, so uh, where you wanna go? and not getting anywhere, so I thought I'd throw it out there to you folks.

Okeedokee. Peace out.

fellyconnelly - 08/12/07 16:04
There is a meteor shower every year on my birthday!! My mom set it up for me several years ago and I enjoyed it so much she continues to provide. what a good mum.
sugarbowlmole - 08/12/07 14:28
I'd like to recommend Betty's on Virginia, though I'm not sure if they're open for dinner on Sundays, and it's probably a bit late to make a suggestion. ;p

We're going over to see Othello in Delaware Park tonight. It's free! You should check it out, if not tonight, then sometime this week.

Oh, and there's a meteor shower tonight - we're driving out to the country late tonight to see it. That might be nice birthday treat. :)
drew - 08/12/07 08:01
I'm a skiier, and Janelle wants to be one.
leetee - 08/10/07 19:14
Bill Rapaport's site :::link::: has an amazing amount of information about restaurants. Along the top of the site there are links so you can find stuff according to cuisines or geography. I did the latter once when looking for a place downtown. Plus, they have links to the restaurant's website (if they have one), so you can always snoop around it to see if us (e:peeps) are steering you wrong with our recommendations. :O)

If you like Thai and Vietnamese, the Saigon Cafe on the strip (right by India Gate, actually) has always done right by us... and they have a wee patio.

Have fun at the gallery tonight. Nice place. I liked the pop art photos (pop porraits). Freaked me out to see Andy Warhol with dark hair. And the James Turrell light installation is like stepping into a new dimention -- i love that one!

And i'm with you on the stupid humans being mean to sweet doggies. So wrong, so very very wrong.
jenks - 08/10/07 17:23
hey lauren I sent you a post-it. (click the little yellow postit note at the very top of the screen to see it)
mrmike - 08/10/07 14:56
Marco's on Niagara is good for that sort.
fellyconnelly - 08/10/07 13:52
Just so you know
the frogger game in question
happens to be a Playstation I game. Which I mention only because the rest of the gaming world has moved on to Playstation III. or PS3.
but it is indeed very cute when you grumble about it.

Tar Jhay
Felly has convinced me to take a trip to Target to get her coveted cable to connect the DVD player to the VCR and then to TV, all so we can play video games. Very exciting. I'm hesitant simply because I don't want to put on a bra today and going out into public tends to require such things. Alas, the price you pay for entertainment.

Thanks for all the info on the park. I think we shall certainly be taking a trip out there next week sometimes. All your pics look beautiful and worth the drive.

We drenched our bathtub in Tilex mildew remover and I think I'm slowly losing brain cells with every breath I take. I think Felly likes it. Hmm...how to do that neat little link thing to the person? I will have to ask her once she gets off the phone.

For now...
tinypliny - 08/14/07 17:21
I totally agree with leetee. Hate 'em with all my heart, if only they would stop choking it.

What a pity they are so evil and yet so necessary. :/
leetee - 08/10/07 18:56
bras are... the devil
tinypliny - 08/09/07 20:34
Use vinegar!! Check out (e:libertad) 's post about the benefits of going green!

Just attach an "e" followed by a ":" before (e:people), and there you have it - a bright shiny link to their parge. :)

A little late, but you know what they say:

WeLCoME To BuFFaLo!!! :)

and I am so sorry I was not in the welcome committee yesterday - had to wrestle with an alligator called work. :(
