The First Half Of The Weekend
Category: buffalo
On friday night (e:tinypliny) stopped by and we made indian food. It was quite delicious.

First we made the indian spice power. It was some powerful and pleasantly tasty stuff.
image

image

I didn't realize this pic of (e:tinypliny) in the kitchen came out so crappy. I guess we will need to take a better one next time.
image

Wow Chippewa is covered in gum stains. I never really noticed before. I guess people really just spit there gum out waitin gin line to go to Level and McMonkies.

I am so fascinated with this house on franklin. What happend to it? I mean what did it used to be. I wrote about it before but no one seems to have said anythign about its past. Like what are the chess tables from.

image

My other favorite house on Summer. They have faux slate asphalt roof.

image

image

I feel bad for the owner of this porch on Summer. It looks like it needs some serious help.

image

(e:matthew) and (e:terry) tried to fit through this alley on Franklin. It hate things you can't turn around in.

image

Neo is closing on Franklin. What the heck is gonna go there. I hope it becomes something and doesn't end up empty or yet another crappy antique shop. It would be terrible for Cafe 59 but if a Spot Coffee moved in there I think they would make a killing. Check out that car outside.
image

This is how (e:matthew) generally looks on the weekend.
image

I wanted to go to the beach today but they were closed for contamination, blah. It makes me sad that the beaches are always closed when I want to go. Then again it is better they are closed than if I got sick.

I was content with going to Zoar Valley but that was nixed too. We ended up going to Salsaritas. Ya exactly, it might as well have been lunch on monday. I really wanted to do something exercise filled and away from the city.

I hate weekends. If you think is hard to make up your mind what to do when you are single, or even in a two person relationship - just imagine how difficult it is with three people that all like completely different things. We usually just end up really mad at each other, go nowhere and don't have sex because we are angry about not deciding what to do.

Instead I thinking I am going to go to Home Depot and buy supplies so that I have something to do. I am thinking that filling the mortar gaps in the back might be fun!

metalpeter - 07/22/07 11:16
Well untill you said you where lying about the not having sex thing. I was going to say that maybe a solution would be to go someplace to have sex. See because if the sex was the goal then where you went wouldn't really matter to much. But since you lied about that (your words not mine) then that might not be a problem but my idea still might be an ok one. I'm sure there must be some diplomatic way of deciding where to go. On another note I like that one house on Summer. When ever I see it I think it looks like it is out of a Movie about Knights or at least would be a cool place to have a sword fight on the lawn and porch.
joshua - 07/21/07 19:45
That alleyway - whyyyyyyy?

As far as the house goes - have you thought about going to the Historical Society or somewhere to see if there are any records?

What a shame about that property - with a lot of work (and alot of money, lets be honest) I think you could make an amazing living space out of it.
paul - 07/21/07 17:16
Okay, I lied about the sex part.

A short work day
Category: buffalo
I left work early today because I stayed so late the other days this week. I have been stressing about my job - and not bad way. I just can't stop thinking about certain projects - which is making everyone around me insane I think.

image

I went to Panaro's on Delaware for lunch with (e:enknot) and (e:terry). It was delicious, I don't know how I never saw it before. Plus the blond waitress we had was awesome. I would recommend that place anyday - the prices were very reasonable. I think it may be one of my new favorite places. I wish I took pictures but I forgot that I had my camera back. It is weird to have it back after it been broken and then gone for so long.

We cleanup up the yard at the rental property today. I can't believe how tall the weeds got in such a short amount of time.

There were so many daisies and other weeds.
image

The prickery weeds had wood like roots.
image
image
image

I found this weird witches broom in the backyard of the property. I wonder if my tenants made it?
image
image

It looked nice when we were done.
image

It looks like Medina Deli over on North and Main is almost ready. I am so excited to see something be on that corner. It has come such a long was see we did public transphere a couple years back. At that time it looked like the bombed out shell of a building.

image

Now the question is what will happen with the yellow mansion at 23 North. It is the last thing waiting to be redone. There has been a big sign out front that said apartments were coming soon since last season but it has remained boarded up and they haven't done any work over the entire summer which is not a good sign. I remember when (e:matthew) wanted to buy it and we took a tour with the realtor (e:paul,32592) . Man that place was disgusting.

Ridiculous Rant You Can Just Ignore
Okay, this is ridiculous - I am really not poor - but I am sad I am not going to Hutches tonight because I am "too poor". I wanted to go to Hutches with (e:imk2) and her boyfriend and (e:terry) said we are too poor because he spent all our money on pharmacy school. I know, I know - money that will turn into more money - but not right now while I want to go to Hutches. It is like the one restaurant I have never been to and everyone raves about it. After writing that I feel like someone should kill me but - damn it - I really wanted to go to Hutches. Okay, enough of that drama.
leetee - 07/21/07 09:36
Funny how geographicly small Buffalo is and yet i feel like that area, by North and Main, is my old neighbourhood. Almost as though it is so far away now. And i can't even remember what was on any corners! Must be age...
mrdeadlier - 07/20/07 22:48
Your tenants (or whomever made it) are probably Potter fans gearing up for the book release tonight...

Guercios On Grant Street
Category: food
I I noticed our sunflowers were in bloom as we were leaving our house to go get some veggies.
image

image

I went to Guercios with (e:terry) this afternoon to get some fresh veggies and fruit so I could get well.

image

The prices are so great here and the selection is awesome.
image

I love capers, they had so many varieties.
image

Look how huge these capers are!
image

This guy, I assume guercio, looks just like my nonno, it is unreal.
image

They had fair trade etxra virgin olive oil at really fair prices.
image

Ok, this is clearly not for resale, they didn't even bother with yellow ink in the print job.
image

ladycroft - 07/18/07 14:33
they do have great cheap produce. i also found their lentils and nuts to be super cheap.
james - 07/17/07 20:11
caperberries are crazy delicious. It is like a salty explosion in your mouth.
tinypliny - 07/17/07 18:53
I think I saw you and Jim at the café today but I was so distracted by hypoglycemia, it took a while to register that it was you and I didn't even say hi. Sorry. :(
tinypliny - 07/17/07 18:51
I can't believe any authentic Buffalonian not having been to this gastronomical heaven!! It was love at first sight for me! :)
jason - 07/17/07 10:59
Wha?? Curried cous-cous? Man.

You know I still haven't been to Guercio's.
ajay - 07/17/07 00:32
Sadly, I discovered Guercio's just before I left.
They have this curried cous-cous which is wonderful. You can have a delicious and healthy meal in just 5 minutes with that stuff:

Bring water to boil.
Add some frozen veggies, let them boil for a couple of minutes.
Add the required amount of curried cous-cous, turn off heat and let it sit.
Voila!

I brought a couple of pounds of it with me to Cali :)
deeglam - 07/16/07 23:09
I LOVE CAPERS TOOOOOOOO!

Dave Doyle's Retirement Party
Category: work
On Sunday we hosted my friend Dave Doyle's surprise retirement party at our house. His ex-wife and daughters planned it all and thought that by having it at our house he would have no idea. We told him we were having a barbeque. Needless to say he was totally freakin' surprised when all his friends and family jumped out and yelled surprise! from behind our garage.

I invited my co-workers (e:jim) and (e:enknot) and their signfy-os - sorry everyone else but this was a family affair and not an estrip party - sorry (e:leetee)

This video says it all. In Dave's his daughter Erin gives a speech about his commitment to their family and what an awesome dad, dave is. It might make you cry if you are the emotional type.
