Naturally , just when I was starting to feel good about distance running, I get a repetitive stress injury. So, running 15-18 miles per week was great for cardiovascular health, physical endurance, weight control, and my mental health, but now it seems it has also sowed the seeds of its own demise. That is, the primary treatment for patellar tendinits ("jumper's knee" -- sort of like tennis elbow only in the kneecap area) is rest -- so I have to avoid the running that brought on the annoying affliction in the first place. This is KILLING me because the good weather makes me want to go tool around Delaware Park, but I can't, because I'll aggravate the knee and worsen/prolong the injury. I'd love to run in a 5k or 10k race, but that's a bad idea for at least a few weeks. (aaarggh!) And, interestingly enough, this type of injury is resistant to typical anti-inflammatories, so drugs won't help all that much. Yay! I so love being injured.
I know this is really no big deal in the grand scheme of things, but I needed to vent. :-P
On the bright side, I'm going to see Social Distortion

Thanks Chico
Yes generaly running is very good for you. But one the problems with it versus say swimming (assuming you don't drown) or Biking (assuming you don't fall) or maybe even Rollerblading (that fall thing again) is that is high impact and that can have some bad complications. I know I have bad knee not all of it is from my days of running. Sometimes at work I'll pick up boxes and my legs can do the lifting but my knees don't like it to much and sometimes make it very tough. Hopefully with rest your knee will get better and you will be able to get back out there. I have been lucky to not have an injury that have ever stoped me but I also never have the time to exercise other then walking. I don't know any of Social Distortion's music but I Hope you have a great time, I'm sure you will.
ugh, injuries are such a drag, especially at this time of year! i had a friend who ran the half marathon with me in may and she is having knee problems too. she actually had them before we ran but she decided to do it anyway. that might have been a big mistake. so take it easy, it's not worth it to get injured running 1.3 miles in delaware park...save it until you can do a good run!!
you're right (e:jason), thanks for the positive vibes...and happy belated birthday!
Hey man, I'm sure it's tough for you to be idle, but hang in there. It ain't worth making things worse for yourself, yeah?
