for all yall atheists
Category: religion
Click his head . He sounds just like you. And for all yall Hindus, you can click sad Habu's tilak and watch him blow a question-mark bubble out his trunk.

And that's why I roll with Professor Giraffenstein the creation scientist.

EDITED TO ADD: Holy shit, you can totally pull on Mr Gruff's belt!

jenks - 06/06/07 22:20
sorry, z, but the prof is FOS.
jenks - 06/06/07 22:13
omg. that is crazy.

"If you find an Atheist in your neighborhood,
TELL A PARENT OR PASTOR RIGHT AWAY!

You may be moved to try and witness to
these poor lost souls yourself, however
AVOID TALKING TO THEM!

Atheists are often very grumpy and bitter and will lash out at children or they may even try to trick you into neglecting God's Word.

Very advanced witnessing techniques are needed for these grouches. Let the adults handle them."

Hilarious!

proud of who i'm fuckin'
Category: gay
That would be (e:dragonlady7) . I can't say as I understand why that's any of your business, but I just wanted to get that out in the open, there. I have sex with women, and you can't change that about me.

This afternoon I skated in the Dyke March* with the Roller Girls. We had fun, but it was a bit grueling. We busted our asses to get to Kleinhan's by 11am only to stand around in skates for two hours. I still haven't properly broken in my skates so by the time we got to Bidwell my feet were killing me. I whipped off my skates at my earliest convenience and walked around in my socks the rest of the day.

Before the parade, one of the roller girls' girlfriends was talking about an encounter she'd had with a protester. The protester had worked himself into a holy fervor and she was pretty proud of her comeback, and I said gosh - it's good to know that everyone's having a good time. To some extent, I meant it- what fun is a gay pride parade without a little tête-à-tête with the fundies? But for the most part, it seemed that the few protesters there were, were pretty bored.

You know, there were probably more people in floats owned by churches than there were protesters. There were probably more grandmas & grandkids on the parade route than there were balls-to-the-wall sexual deviants. There's probably a commentary lurking in there somewhere, but gramma's gotta go soak her bunions.

_______________
  • I thought it was the Pride Parade too, but the No Parking signs that the police put up along the parade route clearly stated Dyke March. Who am I to question the government?

New music: "Gay/Not Gay" by King Missile III.
metalpeter - 06/04/07 17:32
There was supposed to be two parades from Utica on down elmwood. There was supposed to be a Dyke's on Bikes one Saturday night and people where meeting at the Eckerd parking lot. When I get my pictures up you are in a couple of them with the Queen City Roller Girls. Oh yeah there is nothing wrong with being proud of who you are fucking. Oh and on a side note if someone can't be proud of who they are fucking maybe they need to change who they are fucking or at least think about it.

excellant title... perhaps teeshirts are in order for next years march?

process of elimination
Category: a series of tubes

On April 12, the Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously passed the Open Government Act ... [which] would strengthen the federal Freedom of Information Act...

The U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved a similar measure in March - but that bill was blocked from reaching the Senate floor for a May 24 vote because an unknown senator placed a secret hold on the bill.

A secret hold. On a bill that would help the public have greater access to public information. Think about that for a minute.

Well ok that's pretty fucked up, but the Society of Professional Journalists has come up with a quick and innovative way of weeding out the culprit

Now really - if you don't know how your elected, paid representatives are voting, how are you supposed to decide whether to continue electing and paying them?

- Z
joshua - 05/30/07 18:27
Since you mentioned voting - they simply are a matter of public record.

As far as secret holds are concerned, its an old parliamentary trick based on the requirement of "unanimous consent" on forwarding bills to the Senate floor. Its been done before and inevitably it will be done again... in the past it has been used as a stalling tactic when a Senator feels like ample time to ask questions or debate the bill hasn't been given.

I have no idea why this practice hasn't been abolished, other than that nobody has considered how to effectively manage the flow of bills in the Senate otherwise. In the House there are rules regarding length of debate and number of amendments before the bill reaches the floor; in the Senate there are no such rules.

Secret holds were abolished at one point in the 90's only to be reinstated because instead of "anonymously" (not entirely true, the majority and minority leaders usually know who it is) voicing opposition before the bill hit the floor, the staller would simply halt the bill in public once the bill hit the floor. In other words, less things got done.

Why anybody would oppose strengthening the FOIA is beyond me, especially since it has such a vastly bi-partisan support base behind it and will ultimately pass. I don't think its time to be a conspiracy theorist quite yet.

rad shoes
Category: fashion
So, for a while I had a high-concept idea for sneakers: Chuck Taylor rental bowling shoes. But the thing is, it would be extremely difficult to get them dyed right - red on one side, blue on the other, beige in the middle. Also, you can't take the shoe apart because the sole is melted on.

Enter Converse's latest marketing scheme: custom kicks . They actually have a pretty respectable number of designs to choose from [Hi-top and oxford Chucks in canvas, leather, and suede, extra hi-top Chucks and Jack Purcell in canvas and more]. Each panel can be a different color, and certain designs are part of (PRODUCT)RED .

And so, finally, I present to you: Dave's High Concept Chucks [allow 3-4 weeks for manufacture & delivery]:

i just made a sweet pair of blue/black/orange ones but got lazy. they were purty.
metalpeter - 05/28/07 15:58
(e:jenks) is correct about (e:twisted) I remember a picture from one of her journals. I remember there is a website that I used to go to where you could pick you kind of shoe and pick all kinds of colors and graffics. There graffics where better then the converse ones. But the big thing is that they where a generic sneaker so there was no brand name to go along with it. I think custom sneakers are a great way to go.
lilho - 05/28/07 14:42
that's so fun!!!!!!!!!! i have a really cute turquoise pair, but they are so uncomfortable for me. i have really arches. i just deisnged a pair and will probably end up actually ordering some!!!!!
jenks - 05/28/07 14:00
oh yeah, and I think twisted designed some estrip chucks (but i'm too lazy to look up her journal and link to it. sorry.) but they were cute.
jenks - 05/28/07 13:59
haha, those are pretty rad. Makes me want to dig out my jack purcells.

early adopters?
Category: work
We got any early adopters here? I'm putting together a little toy for work and I'd like some real preliminary feedback. Concept: all-local Internet radio - runs as a tiny window on your desktop while you're working & shows who's playing. Currently 137 songs, ~10hour playlist.

Known bugs:
- loading message doesn't show [you have to wait a couple minutes before it starts playing]
- volume slider doesn't work [use system volume]
- a number of the songs have f*d up ID3 tags [these won't show any info]
- the mysterious white box doesn't show ads yet
- pause/fast forward buttons don't exist
- a lot of the music is crap*ola

oh yeah the pclinuxos box has a 2.66 mhz celeron processer and 768 megs of ram and the sound did work.
uncutsaniflush - 05/23/07 21:28
I answered one of my own questions, here's a screen shot of your widget running on pclinuxos .93a (more or less) with firefox 1.5x with flash player for linux 7 something :::link:::

tinypliny - 05/23/07 21:12
Hmm.. tried to load it on Opera (Win XP) and all I get is this: :::link:::
No sound.
uncutsaniflush - 05/23/07 21:02
It works in elive(debian etch) using firefox, err I mean ice weasel. It took about 10 seconds to load on an athelon 900 with 378 megs of ram.

What version of Flash Player are you are coding for? Do you think it will work with Flash Player 7?
carolinian - 05/23/07 16:17
As an Artvoice reader (assuming that you're doing this for Artvoice) what I would find really useful is a way to hear music from the bands listed in your music events section, as this would help me make an informed decision about what I want to go to.

Look here :::link::: and imagine a "Play" button by every entry (or a link to the band's myspace page). That's what I think would be really cool.

As for your radio station, "Dashboard Widget Candidate" definitely.
museumchick - 05/23/07 13:54
Very cool:). I wish I had headphones in the library now so I could try listening to it.
kara - 05/23/07 13:49
I'm trying it out. It'll be competing with pandora.com though.
jsl - 05/23/07 13:10
I love the idea! It took about 30 seconds to start playing on firefox/linux here but sounds fantastic now. It's playing DMP - Wildfire. Is this a local band? Can you link to their web site from the player page?

If we get a community wireless network functioning we can have tons of free bandwidth for this kind of thing. ;)
