pano's contraversy
“… downtown Buffalo, which has sacrificed about 50% of its real estate to parking, is, well, dead compared to Elmwood Avenue, which has largely resisted civic AIDS (Architectural Integrity Deficiency Syndrome). Elmwood has an intact streetscape, almost no parking lots, and is the healthiest neighborhood in Buffalo.
The case comes before the Preservation Board on Thursday, Sept. 23, at 3:00 pm in Room 920 of City Hall. There is an online petition at www.petitiononline.com/1089elm/petition.html
I love Pano's don't get me wrong, but I would be very pissed if they continued the trend of knocking down beautiful buildings to make parking lots. I know that the city of Buffalo is a pro at doing that, but the Elmwood area is different, for a reason!
Please sign the petition.
Peace,
Steve

thursday in the square
My friends and I would go to the Square every thursday, spend money, and enjoy the city! We would always make it a point to meet on one particular side of that monument as well, because otherwise it's impossible to find anyone.
Long live thursday in the square!
Peace,
Steve

craigslist
I wouldn't worry at all....elmwoodstrip rules.
On another note, Sqb, I love your photography. I really love seeing pictures from the elmwood area, because that is where I used to live before I moved out here to California. I am finding out more and more that I don't like this area at all (hollywood), and even though there is nothing for my career (film) in buffalo, I think I'm ultimately more happy there, and will most likely re-locate back to the elmwood area. I would love to get a really nice place with a few apartments in it, and rent out the others while I myself live in one.
Even though the economy is hurting, the weather is not the best and the sports teams are hurting, there is something about the elmwood area that just makes one feel welcome.
Peace,
Steve

cross your fingers
I really think that getting this job is going to make me want to stay out here, rather than moving back to buffalo. Recently, I have been feeling very homesick, and wanting to get back to the elmwood, bidwell parkway area. The year that I spent living on potomac, and walking up to elmwood daily was the best year of my life, and it was all because of the community that surrounded me. The festivals, markets, and genuine people in that area is what made it the best. Out here in Hollywood, I have a very small sense of community, and generally dislike the way people are/act out here. But if I get this job I think it will steer me in the right direction. Afterall, film is my passion, and to get into a job where I am working around it daily, I feel my outlook would change for the better.
Peace,
Steve

funk
I have some interviews coming up...one for an industry job, and one for a restaurant job. I hope I can snag one or the other....preferably the industry job. I would sure like to get paid to do what I like...rather than intern, and work at a restaurant.
I still miss good ol buffalo, if you can believe it. As much as I wanted to leave when I was there, I miss the little things about it. Being able to get anywhere you want in the same amount of time, no matter what day it is, or what the time is. Seeing the seasons change.....even though I have only been out here for a short amount of time, I am sort of depressed to not see any rain, or hear thunder. I know you must think that I'm crazy, seeing as it's 80 and sunny every.single.day out here, but I guess I have just grown accustomed to seeing the clouds, and enjoying the sound of falling rain.
Trying to get out of this funk.

First Entry
I just found this site, and am really glad that I did. I grew up in East Aurora, New York, and lived in Buffalo for a couple years before moving out to Hollywood California where I am now. My first residence in Buffalo was in S. Buffalo and it wasn't the nicest of places to live. I did enjoy my time there though, right in Tifft street....with a bunch of friends whom occupied the whole house. We were able to be as loud as we wanted (except for a couple of times when we were visted by Buffalo PD) but there was no community feeling.
I then moved to North Buffalo on Potomac and loved every minute of it. The sense of community was awesome, cool people everywhere...a 5 minute walk to Cafe Aroma and many other places. I had the time of my life last summer, working at a great restaurant, and thus being able to check out many more great restaurants in Buffalo. My girlfriend and I definitely have a favorite...which is Mothers. Such a cool vibe and great food.
I have moved out to Hollywood in order to try and make my dream of working in film a realization. So far in 7 months I have worked on an independent feature film, and a television commercial. Both taught me a ton about what goes on behind the scenes of these projects. Since both of those projects ended, and I'm just working in a restaurant for the time being, I have found myself missing home more and more. Although the weather sucks in Buffalo, I do miss it greatly. And although there is nothing really going on in Buffalo regarding film, I do wish to re-locate back to North Buffalo sometime soon. I think it would be great to start a production company in Buffalo, to harness the talent that resides within the city limits.
From my time at UB, I know that there are many skilled and talented people in the city, but the problem seemed to be there was no way to unify all of them. Maybe someday I can fix that, but for now, I'm out here for at least another year while my girlfriend goes to school. She just moved out here about a month ago, and will be attending college for one year in Northridge.
Thanks for reading, and creating such a cool site.
Peace,
Steve
