given that i have domesticated myself since i moved out of my apartment at the end of june and have been dwelling in various other spots, i have taken to watching late morning & early afternoon television. today, i was disgusted (b/c usually i'm just amused by 'ellen' and 'the price is right').

the WB plays ricki lake. the topic of the day: turning tomboys into real girls, or something so absurd. they bring parents and friends onto the show, agonizing over how boyish their daughters/friends are. "oh, she wears boxers!" *gasp* "she doesn't shave!" *eek* "she dresses in BOYS' clothes!" *ahhhhhh!*
so what does ricki do? she brings in a team of DRAG QUEENS to 'femme up' these tomboys. drag queens. i'm sorry, but if i'm not mistaken, that is the exact same thing, just switched. it's perfectly fine for men to dress as women, but practically a mortal sin for these young women to dress as men. huh?
is it because ru paul made her fabulous and fashionable debut years ago, showing just how lovable and entertaining queens can be? because kings are few and far between?

pause: ricki just said to whom i consider the most lovely woman on this show, "i can tell you are a beautiful woman. if you just put in a little bit of effort..." fuck you, ricki. fuck you.

back to my question. what makes this whole scene ok? nobody's trying to "macho up" these queens. is it because women are just supposed to buckle, slab on some mascara, and throw on a dress?

on the flip side, when zooming in on just the queens, it's so nice to see them being treated so well and with, what seems to be, respect on the show. but why don't these women receive the same?

in one month... excuse me, <I>less than</I> one month i'm out. not out of the closet (that was years ago). not out to lunch (tho' i am a little hungry). i'm out. out of here. august 13--opening ceremonies to the olympics, and one sb's farewell. i have no job lined up. but i have a sweet place to stay (for free) avec ma soeur. should be a good time. all the excitement and nervousness is starting to mount. i think it waited 'til the one month mark. because it's now that everyone asks me about it. now that everyone asks, "oh, aren't you leaving so sooooon?" le sigh. oui. je viens a dc. mon dieu.

but in the meantime. in need some cash monies. any ideas?
