weekend and weekend.

So on Saturday the Bandits won and I had A good time. I really don't feel like posting pictures really. There next game is on Friday and is a home Playoff game. I also saw the new Harold and Kumar movie on Saturday. I liked it but not as much as the 1st one but maybe it is just because they showed so much of it in the previews. Tuesday I'm looking forward to seeing Avenue Q , I'm hoping it is very good.

Happy Earthday

I will be the first to admit that I don't recycle like I should and I do know that. But what I'm talking about is the movement to "Go Green". Yes it is cool and hip and Responsible to go green. But there is a big warning don't do what you are told to do, then think you are saving the planet, please do the research and find out for your self. We Americans are often lazy sheep who think we are the saviors of everyone. I will give two examples.

Light Bulbs: There are all these great light bulbs that save energy and this and that. Well some of them have mercurry (you know the guy from queen) in them. Well so no big deal that is until everyone throws them out and you get lots of soil contamination. We here all these car companies say they have cars that take ethonal. Well that is great except for the fact of that there isn't really a gas station to buy it yet. Plus to make it they have to take wheat so that makes it higher demand and that means we won't have any wheat. It isn't like they have these 40 story buildings where they grow supper wheat just to make fuel out of. I won't get into the paper vs. plastic debate. My point is just because someone says this is more eco friendly look into it your self.

Here is the part that bothers me. I never hear anyone talk about how the system is messed up and how the way society has changed affects the eco system and out planet. For example in the good old days you worked where you live and vise versa. There aren't to many people left like that, yeah there is a small percentage of people who work in stores where they live. But most people live out in the burbs somewhere and come into the city or vise versa. The commute is really one of the big problems. If getting to work with out a car took 20 minutes then you could walk or bike or some not as breathing air destroying vehicle. This is the same with people who trek it to the mall and back. What that does is makes lots of people car and therefore gas dependent. Since people can't give them up there really isn't any incentive $$$ for the car companies to do any thing. I think that all this car company stuff is so that it looks like they are trying to save the buyers money and has nothing to do with being cleaner it is a marketing ploy, But I'm a synic so..l The other thing that happens is the sense of community is gone. Yes there are block clubs and stuff in the city. But the real reasons for those is crime and that the people in them can remember when you could ask you nieghboor for a cup of sugar and later they could borrow the salt. People lived and worked together and even if you didn't like each other still felt community. When people feel that they help keep up the place clean and don't throw garbage everywhere. Yes there are recycling bins now and they didn't do that then. But now in a lot of places if you throw trash in the field or at the bus stop no one cares.

Here is what bothers me about the car companies. Lots of them tell you right in the ad how many MPG's they get. Well most people think wow that is pretty good. But what none of them tell is how much do you get in stop and go traffic. That is really more important anyways. When you go on a trip yeah you get on a high way but what about traffic jams and driving in the city. Then if you drive on your way to work you all ways do a little bit of it. But see they don't want to say that cause then they don't sound as good, see it is all a ploy to get you to buy their brand of car.

I think any company that says or promotes going green, needs to by law disclose on the web (should be paperless) how they do things.
what do they recycle and if they don't what is being implemented along those lines. I think that they need to prove that they are trying to do what they are using as a selling point.

I will admit I'm not very eco friendly at all. Where I live they have no recycling. Papers get thrown out or shreaded. To lazy to do things with batteries and glass bottles. I wish I was more green. I don't have a compost pile behind my house. But I'm also not really a hypocrite I don't sit here and say I'm saving the world because I joined the Sabres Go Green plan. Ok I guess my rant is over, by the way the next holiday is Business adminastrators day or something like that is that what used to be Secerteries day or is that bosses day or is it some mixture. So happy earth day everyone.

420 and stuff

So I hope everyone had a great 420 even if smokin up isn't your thing still hope it was good. Yesterday I rewatched fight club it had been so long since I had seen it really is pretty good and a little bit out there. I also watched Attack Of the show it is on the G4 network and they where in Jamica for their 420 show. It wasn't only about that and not only about the country and it was pretty interesting and they even had a guy at a couple places in Toronto. Part of my day was walking around "The Strip" shall we say and two of the pictures I took are about some new way to get high, I don't know if it works and I'm not sure who this group is but it is something to think about. It kinda fits in with the show because it also had to do with Mushrooms and even a Tea they make with them and they mentioned some kind of weed tea also. In Jammica I didn't know weed is illegal I all ways assumed that it wasn't a crime to smoke it at all. Well here are some pictures.

For those that don't know I'm not for decriminalising weed. I think it should be made legal and sold in stores with smokes but that companies can't add all the stuff that they ad to cigs. Then you can tax places that grow it, importation and the sales and use a certain percentage of that tax to go into education (real facts not propoganda and lies) and into rehab for people that want it. I don't think that will ever happen because the Beer and "Smokes" company poor a lot of money into the campaign Against drugs, not to mention all the legal drug companies that could lose out if weed and other drugs became legal.

Here are some pictures of the Blue Cross & Blue shield building.

I hope people are enjoying this lovely weather because I'm guessing soon a lot of us will have the air conditioners on and complaining that it is to hot or that it is raining all the time I'm going with the hot.

Part 2 Buffalo Unexpected

It seems that this weekend or at least Saturday there has been a theme of things being unexpected. For that reason alone I will do the unexpected and not post any Bandits Pictures. The plan was to go to the bank then go see a movie. I'm pretty much on time then after that I was supposed to go get a sign and make copies of it as a way to mess with that dude at work but me running late caused that not to happen. Another unexpected thing was the bandits starting out strong in their game vs. The Shamrox but going down either 3 or 4 to 0 and then coming back and winning the game. The Idea of me going to the arena would have been silly any other year. But two unexpected things happened to cause this. The first was Labatt having a pond championship here and then the fact that the ice wasn't thick enough. So what did the do for the kids they iced over parking lots at the Marina. That lead to the second Unexpected part of Mayor Brown opening up the marina after that so now it will be open all year long.

So on my way downtown I did take a few pictures and I took a few afterwards to, and I just remembered some pictures I forgot to resize to upload oh well. Once I got to the marina I thought that I had enough time to (again if not for the train I would have been wrong here again) go see the ships and that tower. It was unexpectedly warm to me and as I was walking the wall I saw something odd. I saw some very nice cars go by. Then I noticed it was a funeral . I figured that is odd when they turn around I will get pictures. At the about the same time the canoers in the water where way ahead of me and going through the ice. As I got closer I quickly figured out that they where not just here as a way to relax afterwards. Paul Bearers pulled out a casket and people stood around it. I wasn't even going to try and get close enough to what they where saying. It struck me as odd that this was in such a public place. I also felt like I should take some pictures but I have to do it in a respectful way and stay away since I didn't know the person I almost felt like I shouldn't be there. That being said it did look like a nice way to go out. Here are the pictures that are possible because of things being unexpected. Maybe later in the week some other pictures will show up on here.

Buffalo & Waterfront

Yesterday it was very nice out so before I went to the Bandits game I went to see The Forbidden Kingdom, I thought it was a very good movie. If Marital arts is your kind of movie you would like it. But before that I went to the Marina and walked around Buffalo. Here is a little picture salute of what I saw this is to kinda see how they look when they are posted I have more to say in another journal where the pictures go the other way.

C.S.A D.E.A

Before I get to what I want to speak on I have to say wow was it nice out today oh it really was nice to be outside for a couple hours. To bad I wasn't planning on it so my arms are nice and pink now.

So last night I watched this interesting and funny movie on IFC called "C.S.A Confederate States America". The best way to describe it is to think that the south won the civil war. Then this would be the program on the history channel you would see about that. They even interrupted the show with Ads and News breaks. They did use historical footage and then experts talking about things that happened and presidents and how the states got united. I found it pretty interesting it mostly dealt about race and slaves. At the end of the movie they did list some real places and products that where sold and used. One of the products looked a lot like this tooth paste that the sell (or at least sold till pretty recently in Japan still).

The other show I watched is on Spike TV called DEA. I like the show it is interesting to see how one unit in Detroit works at catching drug dealers. This show isn't like cops, cops is all about the crazy people and beating them up or dragging them around and is really about look at that white trash, scum bags, drug addicts, pieces of shit, come on run boy I want to see the cops catch your red neck ass and tackle you. Cops is so much about seeing pieces of shit on TV being locked up. There is that it is about seeing the person humilated and them being out of contro. DEA is more about the team and about how they catch guys and the cameras will go in the house but not with the raiders. I myself to agree with the drug war but this is a pretty interesting show. These guys really think they are making a difference I don't think they are really. There is a marathon of episode on Saturday night by the way.

The problem with the war on drugs is, that like a lot of things in America it is done backwards. What we do is go after the people who sell the drugs. Then try to flip them (give up their supplier) , and keep going up the ladder until the case goes no further. But see if no one needed coke, or pills then the dealers would have nothing to sell and if someone can't cope and needs drugs and all coke is gone then they will do another drug. I think that all the money that is spent on fighting the war on drugs should be spent to try and learn and prevent people from having to use them in the first place. If you get ride of the demand then the problem fixes itself. I also think that there is a difference between use and abuse. Some people can go out on Friday and Saturday and party with e and then go to work or school on Monday and be fine. But then some people have to party every night. I think money should be used to try and help people instead of sending people to jail. I can understand why people want to fight the war on drugs this way with all the crime and gangs who kill over turf. But when gangs get violent why can't the cops just go after them and get there weapons off the street and lock them up. You can never lock up all the the drug dealers and even if you could then people who have to get hi would just do it some other way. For example household chemicals can be pretty good, I have gotten high on them but not purpose. Another good one is paint, ok the fumes I guess. I was watching these ladies do spray paint art at the fair and maybe after about 10 minutes I could feel it. So what will the drug war really do. But if as a society we learn how to treat people better and help people not depend on drugs to feel better then a lot of people might be better off. Hey but maybe that is just me.

I hate to say it but that will never happen for a bunch of reasons. I think the main one is political. People want to be tough on crime and fight this war. But I think the biggest reason is no one wants a complex answer. Americans are stupid and lazy. You can't do A times C - d +7 = problem fixed it has to be drug dealers are evil and must go to jail. Beer is legal and causes all sorts of social ills but isn't part of the war on drugs, but is just as bad if not worse the weed. No one ever smokes weed and gets in a bar fight then crashes there car into a school bus with 30 kids in it. Look at all the cough medicine. When we are sick what do we do we take stuff that makes us feel better. It hurts when I cough so the stuff I take stops me from coughing. But that isn't good coughing is how you get all the crap out of your lungs. I won't even get into prescription drugs. I think that as long as we have big companies with lots of money making legal drugs (perscriptions, over the counter, behind the counter and beer) there won't be an honest discussion about drugs. Those companies have so much power that they keep their drugs as good and the illegal ones as bad, and as long as that happens then there will always be people who abuse drugs. On a side note persctipton drugs get abused to, but since they are legal not to many people really care about that.

Ok my rant is over I guess.

Blackday

The post that I wanted to write today I'm going to have to wait a day or two to do if I do it at all. I saw that in the art voice they have the finalists in their awards. I only looked at a few of them and saw no one from (e:strip) in the best blogger so I thought why not come up with the (e:strip) awards. But then I thought the awards would only really be my thoughts and really they might only be about people who have posted lately. I also would have no trophies or plaques or anything to give out. So If I where to do this It would have to be planed out and not just written out as I go so maybe I'll do it and maybe I won't but I hope it happens this week some time. I wasn't going to even write this at all but as I was thinking about this I saw an interesting story about a Korean Holiday and thought that I might as well add my award thoughts to the thoughts on this news. I wish I would have known about this holiday(s) back when I was writing about how I didn't like Valentines day this would have been something that could have been taken into effect. I also wonder is the day "Greenday" any way connected to the band at all or if that is where they got there name. I wish I had my cousins e-mail he might know and is also in Korea along with his brother, in any event here is the article.

Black Day for love, big day for noodles

By Jon Herskovitz Mon Apr 14, 12:40 PM ET

SEOUL (Reuters) - It was a Black Day for love in South Korea on Monday with lonely hearts trying to ease their pain by diving head first into bowls of noodles.

South Korea celebrates Valentine's Day, where local custom dictates women give gifts to men. It has taken on a popular event born in Japan but sweeping Asia known as White Day on March 14 when men return the favor with gifts for women.

But Black Day, on April 14, is a South Korean original. It is marked by people who have not found love dressing in dark colors and commiserating over meals of black food, with the dish of choice being Chinese-style noodles topped with a thick sauce of black bean paste.

"I had a miserable time on Valentine's Day, felt even lonelier on White Day and now I'm crying over a bowl of black noodles," said a young women who asked only to be identified by her family name Na out of embarrassment.

"Things better be different next year."

At universities across the country on Monday, students without lunch dates ordered black noodles, dined with other lonely hearts and searched for companionship.

South Korea marketers have hatched special days for the 14th of each month to create a calendar laden with love.

Some days have gained traction such as Black Day, while others such as Green Day in August, when couples are supposed to drink cheap liquor that comes in green bottles and walk in the woods, have yet to attract much of a following.

Black Day events have snowballed, with a major matchmaking service this year providing an evening of speed dating where the dish of choice is sushi blackened by squid ink.

An on-line company for movie tickets sponsored a speed eating competition of black noodles for those who bought single tickets for the latest films.

"It is depressing enough going to the movies by yourself," said Shin Youn-joo of the company called Max Movie.

"We just wanted to spread a little joy to the 'with-outs'."

Winter or Spring

I don't know if anyone remembers this but we had a snow fall some time back and I said that it wouldn't be the last snowfall. Well when I woke up this morning and left the house I thought it might be rain but that little bit of stuff was snow, it was hardly anything but snow it was. Before the weekend I heard it could snow on Monday. I wish I had more to say that was more interesting but you gotta love Buffalo.
