Wexler Skincare
Category: skincare
I have been getting off topic in terms of my blogging recently. So I thought I would post a little blog about Patricia Wexler products that I have tried and wanted to let you know what I thought about them.

Foaming Cleanser
image

I am usually a big fan of foam cleansers ( I love body shop's neutragenics foaming cleanser), but this one I have to say is not my favorite. Morgan is a fan of it, but for some reason, I feel like it is too chemical smelling and it dries out my skin, which is crazy because my skin isn't sensitive at all. It is $16 and you can order it online at her website or you can get it at Bath and body works as well.

Exfoliating Cleanser

This product, the exfoliating acne cleanser, I feel is a great cleanser/exfoliator. It has a creamy texture with little grains in it that sloth off any dead skin- it also has a very refreshing feeling. I am a huge fan of this cleanser. It is $16 as well.

Serum
image
MMPi20 Serum is awesome. I got this initially as a sample, and a little goes a LONG way. It may seem expensive at $55 a container, but it will last you a long time, probably about 6 months- and it goes on and makes your skin feel like a baby's behind. It is designed to help restore moisture and the skins natural balance, while giving it an added boost of anti-aging properties. I really love this product.

Has anyone else tried other wexler products? I would love to know what you think about them....

not beauty tidbits
Category: stuff
Ok- a few things (non-beauty related). Matt- I saw you on your porch while I was walking to my car during the allentown art fest and I said hello- but I am convinced you had no idea who I was. Sorry to scare you!

Secondly. I need Mac help. who doesn't? but seriously. So I have a little Macbook- the white one- I think it's the 13 inch. my battery is completely not chargeable. So, I assume I need a new one. Can I just purchase a new one and replace it myself? Or do I need to take it to the Apple store to get it done? A new battery is $129. Ouch. But my computer doesn't work unless it's plugged into the wall, and that sucks because sometimes, if it's plugged in and I move and the cord gets unconnected, then the whole computer shuts down. and that makes me very angry! Advice is greatly appreciated for anyone who knows.

I got new exciting news, but it's too early to post. I promise as soon as I get all my loose ends tied up I will post.

Also, mine and Morgan's trip to Arizona to visit (e:lilho) is officially booked! I can't wait to vacation in the great American Desert on a raft in the lazy river. Vitamin V here we come! :)

it's okay! It was hot and rainy- my hair was on the top of my head in a little bun and I wasn't wearing glasses, so I didn't expect you to recognize me- but I didn't want to NOT say hello and risk the chance you did recognize me and then you think I was a jerk.... :)
matthew - 06/22/10 10:31
Of course! I'm so sorry, I really couldn't figure out who it was who said hi. I must admit that my sister and I were "celebrating" the nice day, so I was a little out of it. Lol. Did you do something different with your hair? It's strange I didn't recognize you, I mean I know what you look like and all! I'm embarrassed, sorry!
jenks - 06/21/10 16:51
You should be able to change the battery yourself, easily. Just make sure you get the right one (I know, duh, but sometimes they're not compatible).

Let's keep it real
Category: health
Ok. Well. Today I am actually going to write on a new endeavor I am embarking on- healthy, inside and out.

So, tell me how I feel on day 2 of this new situation? So far so good. I have adopted a high fiber south beach diet- of course, my vanity wants me to do it for the glitz and glamour of a good bod for my exciting summer- but honestly, I have to do it in order to be healthy for my future. The sad thing is, I do all this stuff for a living, but being healthy does take some sacrificing and transition. But once the initial hype is over, I am hoping to adopt it full time.

Of course, once I get moving on decreasing my numbers, I will allow myself to be rewarded with a small cupcake here and there. Please, what is life without beautiful and scrumptious cupcakes?

I am motivated. Although I went to the gym today and hated every second of it. Maybe I will start running outside instead. I hate the gym. I hate the way it smells, I hate that I run into people i know when I am at my worst, I hate sweating then having to sit in my sweat till later in the day when I can go home and shower, I just hate the gym.

Does anyone have any motivating non-gym ways to get fit and tone up? Suggestions are always welcome!!!!
metalpeter - 06/02/10 17:01
(e:Heidi) it may but I'm just saying, you don't want to be out and about, and um where is the bathroom, all I see is houses for 3 blocks or ok what do I buy after I run into this place to eat. The Thing with Fiber is that the reason it is good for you is that your body can't break it down, so out it goes and it is supposed to take out other stuff with it. But there is this trend you see that they know have it in kids ceral. Sorry that doesn't make that breakfast that is 90% sugar healthy, and when all the kids have to get up in the middle of class to dump, it doesn't help then concentrate. I'm not saying fiber is bad, but people act like it doesn't make you shit.
heidi - 06/02/10 12:38
Bike riding! yoga! there's a sunday morning yoga session at the harbor.

(e:metalpeter) - your body adjusts pretty quickly.
metalpeter - 06/01/10 20:11
Silly Question doesn't the Gym have showers? In terms of exercise one big key I think is it has to be something you enjoy, at the very least something that causes you to want to continue it. I terms of the diet you are brave to do the Fiber thing, I think I'll skip going to the bathroom 6 times a day, Ha. Well you know what I mean. Hope the new life style works out for you.
leetee - 06/01/10 19:20
I wish you lots of luck in your new way of looking at your health. Congrats on making the decision, and i hope you are able to fold everything into your life seamlessly.

Like you, i hate to sit in my sweat all day. In fact, i hate to sweat at all, which is probably one of the reasons i am a self-described "fat chick".

Have you considered swimming as exercise?

Rite Aid also has many other great sales this week. 50% off pantene. Venus razors are on sale. Olay stuff is priced at $15.99 (with coupon in the paper taking off an additional $2).

Mario Badescu-my personal facial routine
Category: skincare
Of course, I am a philosophy girl and swear by everything they make, but I have been trying a few new products that I really like and wanted to offer suggestions.... Mario Badescu has been in the skin care business making amazing and affordable products for over 40 years. I have always read about his products and so many celebrities list his drying lotion as one of their favorite products ever... so I thought, hey, I am always looking for the magic cure all- why not try it?

So, I went to a local apothecary and purchased a bottle of the strange looking 'drying lotion' for $17. I was surprised that his prices were actually reasonable- I also purchased the orange face wash for $12 and Lip wax for $5.

I was so excited to get home and do my personal version of a spa facial, using my new products. I washed my face with my philosophy purity face wash, then used the mario badescu orange face wash with my clarisonic. I then steamed my face with a facial sauna for 15 minutes with a clarifying mask (I used Caudalie purifying face mask) (you can steam your face placing your head over a sink and towel over your head). Steaming, I have found, is amazing for your skin and truly makes a world of a difference in terms of how well your product works- helps open the pores, soften the gunk in the pores to get it out, and helps your products absorb and work better.

I then took the mask off with a warm wet wash cloth and put on my anti aging serum (when hope is not enough), eye cream (I use Olay total effects eye cream), then hope in a jar as my moisturizer. After all of the steps are in place, I am ready to apply my new drying lotion, which I am dying to use!

The lotion comes in a little glass bottle with 2 tones of product in it. It looks like this:

You do not want to shake it, because the idea is that you dip a q tip into the 2 products together, dab it on your already erupted pimple, and let the magic begin.

I could instantly feel it tingle, but in a good 'drying my pimple up and good for my skin' kind of way. Just dab it on and let it dry, and you sleep with it on overnight- and wash it off in the morning.

I was glad to see that my huge pimple on my forehead had minimized greatly, although it wasn't completely gone. It was though, after a second evening.

The drying lotion is great for already erupted pimples, but it is not to prevent pimples from forming. I am going to purchase a few more of his products to try- he has some great masks and creams that look wonderful. I will definitely give a full report on them as I try them!
tinypliny - 04/25/10 19:29
I know its pretty tempting to believe in all these cosmetics, but the best solutions in dermatology are preventive nutrition and natural biodegradable food grade substances. The general rule is that if you can't eat it without getting really sick, you shouldn't be applying it on your skin for extended periods. Remember that your skin absorbs many of these cosmetics - so my sincere advice would be to pause before you get anything and read the ingredient list.
tinypliny - 04/25/10 19:25
:-) Yeah, if you enjoy it, I guess it's worth all the money.

BTW, if you are having trouble with pimples, I would recommend increasing your fluid/water intake. Calamine lotion (ZnO + Fe2O3) is an astringent to "dry up" pimples (or abscesses with pus). Looks like this badescu cream has that in part. It's an incredibly cheap generic solution for pimples. I am not sure you should be paying through your nose for something like this. After the pimples dry up, a deep massage with unfiltered extra-virgin olive oil will get rid of the scars.

deeglam2 - 04/25/10 18:40
I don't think I have ever calculated it, but A LOT of money. But like anything you are passionate about and really enjoy, it's worth it. :)
tinypliny - 04/23/10 22:26
If you don't mind my asking, how much do you spend on cosmetics in a year?
