After more than 6 years in Baltimore, I have come to realize that the best pizza really is in New York. NYC probably has the best, but WNY comes in at a close second, in my opinion. My favorite comes from this place in Niagara Falls that you'd never ever notice unless you were looking for it. It's on a residential street, and feels like a step back in time. There are only two people working there, and you can see the gigantic flour sifters, long table, and all the equipment they use to make this old fashioned pizza. Totally vegetarian, goes great with red wine, and I don't know what they put in the sauce--maybe crack--because I am so addicted to it!
DG Bread & Pizza, though locals tend to call this place Trusello's because I think that used to be its name.
Somebody made a Youtube video of the place. It's a little long, but you get the idea:

Niagara Falls Pizza11/04/2015 21:56 #60312
Back in WNYAfter nearly 7 years away in Baltimore, we decided to move back home, closer to family, in Western New York. My previous time in this area has always been spent in Buffalo, downtown and Allentown, so it feels a little strange this time to be living in Niagara Falls. But our new house has a view of the Niagara gorge from the living room windows, and that's a perk that makes my new location easier to accept. I took these pictures from practically across the street from our new house over the past couple of months. It's good to be home!

The Rapid Theater does get good shows. We're going to see Skinny Puppy on Friday. Third Street also has a great Vibe. Wine on Third, The Bistro, and 24 Below Gallery & Cafe are all interesting places. There's also an Indian Restaurant that we like, not much to look at but really good food. Deveaux is an awesome neighborhood. The neighbors are super friendly, and I am impressed by how many people take good care of their homes, obvious pride in the area.

Welcome Back! I'm out your way so it's good to see the Northern Niagara River get represented on here.
The area off of Main St to Deveaux still is affordable. There is a great vibe from the Rapids Theater which always brings in great shows but hopefully things will get better in NF. There is only one way to go but up. Hopefully the some of the artistic creative class people will flock here due to the low rent & picturesque landscape?

Thanks guys! Maybe I'll eventually meet some of you eStrippers in person now that I'm back in the area. Hiking in the gorge, and cocktails after, would be fun!

Welcome back!
The houses in that neighborhood look awesome. I've never really explored outside of the gorge though.

That's awesome. I need to head back there soon and go hiking. I always thought that neighborhood was cute.

Tiffany & Co supporting gay marriagePaul's recent post about his wedding ring made me think of this advertisement I recently saw from Tiffany & Co. I worked for them in the late 1990s, and I am proud of my former employer for taking a stand on an issue that's important to me. It may be a smart marketing campaign, but it's also good to see them marketing directly to the gay community, because it moves us farther away from the margin and closer to normalization. I'm thinking back to when I was an adolescent, and how nice it would have been to see these things in mainstream media. It would have made me feel less alone, and would have allowed me to daydream about my future wedding and marriage one day, like most people do (and take for granted). It's these seemingly small things that add up and eventually change society's values and attitudes. It's a great way to start the new year, looking forward to the future! Happy 2015!

Its so crazy when you think about all the lost marketing opportunities over such a long period of time.

Buffalo & BaltimoreThere's a lot about Baltimore that reminds me of Buffalo. Some of the architecture is among those things. The tallest building in each of these cities is a good example. Some of the facts:
One Seneca Tower
Buffalo, NY
Height: 529.00 ft
Floors: 38
Year built: 1974
Transamerica Tower
Baltimore, MD
Height: 529.01 ft
Floors: 40
Year built: 1973

It's kind of funny how Buffalo is trying to replicate the success of the Baltimore Inner Harbor or at least want to be it when it grows up. At least we got our casino set up early as it looks like Baltimore just added one.

Dim sum in Washington DCI absolutely love dim sum. This is some of the best I have ever had, probably number 3 on my list. The best ever was in San Francisco, and the second best was in NYC. This is from Tony Cheng's in Washington DC. If you are ever in the area around brunch time, I would highly recommend it. When I left Buffalo 5 or 6 years ago, there really wasn't a place to get dim sum, so my husband and I used to drive to Hamilton, Ontario for it. Has this situation been made right since I've been away?

Holy cats, thanks for the dumpling link! And for the great food information. I will most definitely check out some of your recommendations and post on what I find.
I am pretty sure that Believe campaign is pretty much history. I got here in 2009, and I used to see some signs, but not so much anymore. To be honest, I'm not even sure what we were meant to believe in. One of my favorite things about Baltimore is the neighborhood called Hampden. It's where John Waters is from, and it's known to be quirky. People where bee-hives and cat-rimmed glasses and say, "Hon" a lot. (Most of them are aware of the kitsch, I think.) There is a church in the middle of the neighborhood with a sign out in front that reads, "God Bless You, Hon." Now that's kinda funny.

NYC:
Out of this world brownies: Fat Witch, Chelsea Market.
{Actually, it might be just butter and sugar but who cares at this point.}

Best pizza in DC: 2 Amys!
Best and most amazing pies: Pie Sisters!
Best Ethiopian: Zenebach Injera
Maryland snooty towns:
Pretty good Chinese & Japanese: Taipei Tokyo (Fallsgrove, Rockville)
Delicious Vietnamese Pho: Pho Nom Nom (Rockville)
Awesome Keralite Food: Kerala Cafe (Rockville)
NYC
Super awesome arepas: Arepa Lady, (Roosevelt brick and mortar store) Jackson Heights. (No veggies here, its a cheese butter heaven... and maybe meat but who cares when the cheese and butter induce a coma. Oh and their smoothies are DIVINE. She makes them with FRESH fruits!!)
Somewhat awesome arepas: Caracas (Manhattan) (I like their veggies concepts!)

Federal Hill is such a cute neighborhood. Those skinny little rowhouses with the amazing back patio-multi-story deck gardens... I looked at buying a house there back in the mid-90s. I like Baltimore much more than D.C. Do they still have that silly Believe marketing campaign? I loved the "Believe, hun" corruption of it.

Most of that dim sum was not vegetarian, but there were a few dishes: vegetable dumplings, deep fried taro, lotus root, and those amazing greens in the front of the picture. Oh, and some sautéed string beans. Maybe there were more vegetable dishes than I realized.
I live in Federal Hill (Baltimore) right by the Inner Harbor, and I know the Helmand well. It was one of the first Baltimore restaurants I even went to. I had never had Afghan cuisine until then. Other Baltimore favorites: The Wine Market, Pazo, Petit Louis, Woodberry Kitchen, Wit and Wisdom, Hersh's...too many to mention, really. Hmm, if you like sushi, everybody talks about Ra, and it is very good, but Shoyou (on the other side of the harbor) is even better and it's just a tiny neighborhood place. I don't know the DC scene at all, except for Chinatown, but I would love some recommendations!
When in NYC, go to Ping's in Chinatown (Mott Street) for some of the best Dim Sum.
And I am happy to learn I can get some dim sum in Buffalo next time I am in town, probably around Thanksgiving or Christmas.

Yea they call it "Old Fashioned" or "Sicilian" Also another good place to go for Pizza in the Falls is Pizza oven down the 19th st at Niagara. The neighborhood is very sketch, but they do make some good pizza. I also get a craving for another place in the area Frenchies also on Niagara St once in a while as well. But Pizza oven is one of a kind & very internet worthy.
In Terms of Pizza there are Different Kinds New York style is very thin crust and one could if they wanted to roll it up towards the crust into a roll up all most ... That right there in the picture is called Old World Style ... It is very good ... I have not had it in the falls or been to that place ..... But there are or where a couple legendary places in the falls (don't know what they look like or know the name ) ..... If that is the one someone I know goes to they aren't allways open
That looks so good, i want it! I love pizza w/o cheese too!
I love that kind of pizza.
Wow, I've never had pizza that saucy. I think I've seen similar looking slices on the counter at Guercio's so it must be a hardcore italian thing. It looks really good.
