Why does every corner shop and big retailer want me to "like" them on facebook?? It's so annoying especially when they link offers and discounts to this asinine practice.
I want those offers, dammit. But I don't want facebook. I won't get those offers and discounts if I don't submit to the lameness and sheep-herding on facebook.
Hmm...
I guess my resistance against facebook trumps my attraction to those offers.
I am glad it took so little time to get this quandary sorted.
PS: Where did the drawing gadget on (e:strip) go?

I got number 5. I actually prefer my waffles from scratch but my pancakes from Bisquick.

Tale of a Nail Wimp.Category: chemicals
I obviously wasn't thinking much or even clearly last week. I have weird-feeling nails now thanks to that phase of temporary brain-fog.
I unconsciously scrubbed my kitchen and bathroom sinks without any gloves on. The bleach eroded the top layer of my nails and my palm skin off. It looked pretty scary. Moisturizing didn't make any difference. I was afraid that my nails would just keep unraveling, become brittle and fall off before the new growth had a chance to come in.
My bout with fogged non-existent thought processes didn't end there.
I don't own any clear nail polish and didn't want to get an entire bottle, so I actually went in to a nails parlour to see if they could apply a clear coat of polish to the damaged nails. They gave me a manicure. I should have just walked out, but I didn't because I was too worried about the rough and torn appearance of my nail surfaces... and I admit I was curious about how my nails would look like with a coat of polish (even though I could not bring myself to select anything other than clear polish).
It was a really bad idea. I should have listened to the tiny voice in my head that usually warns me about impending doom. It was totally yelling and I ignored it. The result is my nails feel weird now. I know that there are no nerve endings on nails but I can actually feel the coat of clear polish on them. It is almost as if my nails are having trouble breathing and moving. Ugh, how do people tolerate this weird-feeling? It doesn't feel good at all to have this extra sensory input from things that usually stay out of my conscious senses. I want to rub off the polish but I don't want any more chemicals on my nails - at least for now. Nail polish remover seems worse than nail polish for eroded nails.
Well.
I guess there is a positive aspect to this nail drama. It's good to know that I haven't missed anything by not owning any nail polish all these years and I am pretty sure now that I can live the rest of my life without it. And it doesn't pay to scrub sinks without gloves on.

Installing ARandR on Fedora 16Category: linux
Fedora's inbuilt display management GUI has no way of turning the primary laptop monitor off and use the secondary external monitor as the ONLY display. {BOO! I hate you fedora 16. I. hate. you.}
So I installed ARandR, a very nifty display manager.
And of course installation can never ever be straightforward on linux. On the webpage of arandr, there is no rpm (or binary) for the arandr gui, so I tried to follow the compile-and-install instructions:
From
Easy enough, right?
Wrong.
An error popped up:
ImportError: No module named docutils.core
So I went to this and installed docutils:
And came out of that directory, went into the directory I un-tared the arandr files and ran this again:
Success. I now have arandr installed on this wretched system and can finally turn my laptop monitor off.

(e:uncutsaniflush): I did not "blame Fedora for not auto-magically providing the depends for the software you are installing. "
I blamed fedora for not providing me with a GUI to turn my laptop monitor off.
Which led me to install ARandR - my software of choice that solved problems for me.
At which point, my only complaint was:
"And of course installation can never ever be straightforward on linux"
Because, as a windows user of ~12 consecutive years, I define straightforward as a double-click-to-install procedure.

Oh goodness gracious me, I do declare the things you say. I took a look at :::link::: and one of the things that jumped out at me was
"Dependencies
python
PyGTK
xrandr
docutils (>=0.6; for building the man page)"
Did you bother to check of you had the right version of doctils installed? I suspect not.
Good Gravy!!! You install something from a non-Fedora source and blame Fedora for not auto-magically providing the depends for the software you are installing. It's not like you used yum and something got fucked up.
Yeah, Fedora 16 sucks. As far as I know, no operating system on this earth, has a mindreading module. Although with Steve Jobs in heaven, I suspect that Apple may be the first.
And again, I'm really sorry you are having problems. I know the work that you are doing is very important to you. And you don't need extra frustrations.

yes, what you say is probably why they are doing that. Facebook does act like a sort of general aggregator. I remember my advisor saying she gets some cancer related news from facebook.
hehe, nice idea about the portal. You can actually do that now all by yourself. Just grab the RSS feeds off the sites you are interested in and feed them into your Google Reader. Or set up a google alert and have it emailed to you enmasse everyday. :)
Wonder how many have them on G+..... Liking them on Facebook for them is a great idea.... See this way (they are being green if you think about it since they aren't giving you say mailing every week?) When something new or news or some deal or they are going to be on say TV (Zillycakes) they can let everyone know... Or the other thing it is also good for is Promotion.... As an example again of Zillycakes there is this holiday something out in Niagara Falls I think and Zilly is there selling stuff well anyone who follows them knows about that market (I'm not busing it to the falls just for that hence why I don't know all the details)..... See what Facebook I think may become in some time is what they call a Portal (sure you know about what portal sites are what I think they are is this) Site.... Where instead of knowing what is going on by having to go to say 30 sites (well less but just a number) you can just go to one site and follow them all.... As an example.... I know you like the Chocolate place and Price rite and lets say you where still going to dance classes at a certain studio.... Well to find out what was going on before that is 3 different sites now at facebook you could find out what is going on at one site.... Imagine if you shopped everywhere on the strip......
