17+ Hours non stop battery usage and still going
Category: mobile
The galaxy s2 phone is really blowing my mind with my first true all day battery. Seems like it was definately the right choice. Considering it weighs almost nothing and is as thin as a wasa cracker - its so unbelievable.

I was hoping it was just something they would figure out eventually.

This is the newest model otherwise known as the Samsung EpicTouch? The camera should be awesome on it. I had considered it, then for various reasons went with the Samsung Epic 4g which still has a physical keyboard. I am really pleased with my phone, which I have had just for a couple of weeks now.

Okay, now I want it.

Great Grandpa
Category: family
This is my grandmother's father. Now I know where that bald patch in the middle of my head comes from. Nonna also said he died of terrible stomach problems. I should probably find out more about him.

Aha! So that's where the nose comes from.

My Disgusting Geographic Orange Tongue
Category: orange tongue
This Wednesday, I finally gave an appointment with a dentist that specializes in geographic tongue thanks to some research by (e:tinypliny). I am ready for it to be over. Hopefully they can do something about it.

Before tongue scraping/brushing

Mayo scrapped it and said it was neg for yeast that's as far as it went . I did do the medication for yeast, en in cleared it up for about 3 days but reappeared. I have no history of periodontal issues either this all simply started after the root canal and antibiotics. I had never even had a cavity befor that one time. I had heard it can be related to you gallbladder but I can't actually confirm if that's true or not. IMO I do think it's bacterial/fungal in nature, mine has passed complete through my system, whatever is in my mouth has made it's way out so to speak. I've done gastros, dentists, internal meds with no answers also. I m now on my way thurs. To a neurological as I'm starti g to get symptoms of weakness and shakiness when the orange is badly coating my tongue. Ifw I have any answers at all I ll be sure to pass them along
tinypliny - 03/23/12 22:03
So Mayo did a culture on your orange growth? Did they say what spectrum of organisms they tested for? Did they only test for yeast? What about other fungal and bacterial families? Do you have any history of periodontitis?
tinypliny - 03/23/12 22:00
Hey Tropical_coco, I can't completely speak for (e:Paul), but I don't think we are close to a solution. (e:Paul) has (to my knowledge) had more than 3 different dentist consults with no particular diagnosis apart from their telling them that it is geographic tongue.

(e:Paul) thinks its perhaps microbleeds from the tongue surface that shows up as bright orange - possibly due to some pH changing reaction with either fungal or bacterial metabolites on the oral mucosa. He has noticed his toothbrush getting stained with the blood occasionally, hence the microbleed theory. It seems more plausible than others.

A few months back there was another person on the internet who sent (e:Paul) a message that he should maybe try a local application of tetracycline (as in smash a tablet and put the powder directly on the tongue). Apparently, this get the orange tongue in check. But I am not sure if (e:Paul) ever tried it.

I am sure I am missing details in between. In fact, I am interested to know what blanks I have left out...
Tropical_coco - 03/23/12 21:41
Please tell me you've found a cure or WHAT this is! I also have geographic tongue and after two rounds of very heavy antibiotics (amoxi and cipro) I developed an orange tongue. I then had a root canal with a replacement tooth put on (not metal) That was 6 months ago and its STILL orange, exact same color as yours. I was also very sick after the root canal to the point I had to go to Mayo Clinic. The swab came back Neg for yeast. I've tried Difluxcan (sp?) oil pulling, tongue scrapers with no luck. What was the outcome if any!
tinypliny - 10/03/11 09:47
That is seriously the coolest thing I have seen on your blog. I am loving your new phone already. You could totally whip out your phone and say, HERE! So exciting! :) Have you got that packet you needed to fill out? What did they ask?

Just to lower those expectations a bit. a) His senior fellow told me that he sees *many* patients with geographic tongue in his practice regularly. I am not sure that is equivalent to being an expert. ;-) Quite honestly, I wasn't really researching dentists. His senior fellow is my new officemate and I asked her a ton of questions before she was like "You should meet with my professor! He deals with it everyday, day in and day out!"
enknot - 10/03/11 09:41
that's so gross. uuguh.. I'm glad you're finding a solution to this. What the hell is geographic tongue anyway?
paul - 10/03/11 00:00
Wow, the camera on this cell phone takes closes really well.

Samsung Galaxy S2 - AT&T Attain
Category: mobile
The Samsung galaxy s2 came out on ATT&T today and I finally jumped ship from the nexus one after almost 2 years. It feels like the future because this is my first video phone. I called myself between the fedora 15 laptop and the phone. It was pretty neat. Its even neater between phones. The thing that did it was a combination of the speed, size, amazing screen and camera. The screen is so clear and the blacks of the AMOLED are so black. I want a TV like that someday.

image

The camera is amazing. Actually it was the main factor as I can you it to document my geographic tongue better and take close-up pics of text. The nexus one had cracked lens so closeups were a no go.

image

As you can see by the benchmarks, it blows away my old phone.

image

It even has this fun cartoon mode.

Hmmm... I guess I didn't think of that at all. Hahah, yeah, maybe.

I still don't like the cartoon mode.
bill - 10/07/11 18:28
I kinda like the cartoon pic of (e:Terry), it's sexy 'cause it leaves something to the imaginatio! But I'd like to see the real thing, too!! ;-)
tinypliny - 10/07/11 18:09
Yes, I agree. The cartoon mode is icky. I don't like it. It looks like a bad cartoonish drew you.
bill - 10/07/11 18:05
I'd like to see the pic of (e:Terry) but not in cartoon mode!!
metalpeter - 10/05/11 17:03
Kinda reminds me of like a movie almost like A scanner darkly or something like that or one of those investment ads where the cartoon is put over "The Real" objects... Wonder if this would work at say a party?
tinypliny - 10/03/11 09:50
You totally posted the second pic to taunt me. I see how it is.
tinypliny - 10/03/11 09:49
Well, does it do 3d?
enknot - 10/03/11 09:43
I can't wait to see this thing. Come to my desk asap! (if not I'll find you!)
