I absolutely adore this performance. I love how she brings so much of her larger-than-everyone-else personality into a song that was written more than a hundred years ago. Who knew Carmen could be so much fun!
Cecilia Bartoli performs Bizet's Près des ramparts de Séville or the Séguedille from the opera, "Carmen", accompanied by Jean-Yves Thibaudet on the piano...

I went to DC and flew over NYC. That was a shot from one of the flights, I forgot which one... It was very cool to fly in daylight for once. I am perennially stuck on red-eye flights to save money but this time it was so last minute, all the red-eye flights were booked out and I landed a daylight flight. It was awesome, I kept the blinds open all the time (much to the annoyance of my fellow-passengers) and snapped pics like a Japanese tourist, made friends with a German immunologist, an Italian immigration expert, an Israeli lawyer, a hip hop dancer from New Jersey, a federal employee from Rome, NY, an insurance expert from Batavia, an Italian housewife on her first trip to Niagara falls (she spoke in spanish while I replied in English, it was so wild. But we understood each other!), several biospecimen experts from around the world, a bunch of epidemiologists from NCI and finally a snowbird who has homes in Buffalo and Florida... It was a very hectic travel and meeting experience.

We danced a nifty sequence of moves to this particular song in my latest hip hop class. The steps were synchronized to a three-stepping boom-boom-boom beat that underlies the song, a kind of hip hoppy version of the waltz rhythm...
More accurately, others in the class danced while I gave up after the first two steps and just had fun goofing around. Turns out I got the true spirit of this song - relaxing at a spelling bee.
Take that, you overachievers-at-dance-class!

PS: (e:lauren), I am discovering all kinds of crazy hip hop music from the Verve connection. Not bad at all. :)

Just Get the Tattoo I get it is a driving force to get down the dance but just go for it...... For some reason I have a feeling that the Tattoo will be your Avatar?

I just changed it. It was definitely broken.
I logged out and logged back in and it is back to the mouse on rice picture?
You know, I thought it was my browser's cache issue, but you are seeing that too, huh? I have no idea why it is different from my other small avatars. I will try changing it and see if it synchronizes. Something broke when I tried SSL for a while yesterday.
I have another question why next to your name are you using the sepia avatar?
Because your browser needs to encrypt all the traffic before sending it.
Now that you mention it, I do remember reading that post of yours and wondering what it was. It didn't make much sense then... it makes a bit more sense now. :-)
Why is the SSL version of estrip much slower than the regular version? What is it doing before sending the pages over?
The last paragraph of the warning also explains what is happening. You basically nee to import the estrip root certificate - then certs issued by estrip will be trusted.
If you read the instructions at (e:paul,53226) that I wrote when I added it, you will see.
Because my server is the authority. First you need to import the cert authority as trusted authority before you can trust certificate issued by it. On firefox you just visit estrip.org/trust. I am not sure how you do it in chrome.
I am not paying for SSL certs. These are issued by my server so that you can connect encrypted when in a cafe, at work, etc. If you don't want to use it or trust it just use the http site - its purely an extra luxury that you do not need.
