Furthur in Rochester?
I've got an extra ticket for Furthur at the Highland Bowl in Rochester tomorrow night. Furthur is a Grateful Dead related band featuring Phil Lesh (bass) and Bob Weir (guitar). Doors open at 5, show is at 6:30. The tickets are general admission. I'd be leaving here around 2:30ish.

Let me know right now!
heidi - 06/25/10 10:06
Free ticket and a free ride. Seriously! I really want company on this adventure. We'll be back by 1:30 am.

Bear trap
Category: home
Later that day...

I was on the Island taking pix, chatting with folks, and eating fresh pierogies and came across a bear trap. Mark Bowne, a former state police officer, had been having trouble with a mama bear and her three cubs getting into his and his neighbors' trash. He contacted the game warden, who brought a trap to his house. The morning of the parade, the trap caught the mama bear and the game warden brought it to the Island to demonstrate the tagging, weighing, and sexing process.

The warden explained that he would take the bear to Taylor Run, just a little outside of town, hoping she'll collect the three cubs and scoot farther out now that she knows what happens if she stays in town. If he knew the cubs were second year, he'd take her farther away, but he didn't want to risk it. She weighed about 160 lbs, small for a female black bear (PDF).

It's kind of a default look.
libertad - 06/19/10 15:39
My oh my this post has a lot of bears!
lauren - 06/19/10 06:45
this is fascinating to me, but also makes me sad. i can't help feeling for those poor cubs when they can't find their mom, and same for the mom who will wake up and not know where her babies are. maybe im anthropomorphizing a bit ( I do that often :) but you know they are looking for each other. and i can't help but think of all the things that could go wrong with those kids taking pictures next to her! :)
metalpeter - 06/18/10 19:19
Nice car show pictures in the link
metalpeter - 06/18/10 19:19
I'm sorry to bash people here but I have to..... Do people understand that any type of drug on any living thing doesn't all ways have the same effect. Yes I know there is some formula they use and their are signs to when a bear would wake up. But there is no way I'm letting my kid pet a bear, based on the fact that some guy gave the bear the right about, and he shouldn't let kids pose with the bear either.

Blossburg State Coal Festival
Category: home
As usual on Memorial Day weekend, I was camping at a big bluegrass party and came down the mountain to do stuff at the Coal Festival. Here are some parade & festival pictures. I hope you're amused. (See (e:heidi,48848) for last year.)

Tioga County does have a bus system although it's mostly impractical. The system does have some good specialized services, such as the one that picks up A's mom at their house and takes her to dialysis .

Here's A's nephew Tyler again - the parade/town is so small that participants are recycled. Ty was prom king. Great hat.

Harley was in the parade with her recorder-playing troupe and then she got her face painted at the festival. I love how her teeth were blue.

Just a cute picture of A's niece Tori Rose. She begged me to take her camping.

The Island is one of the most beautiful and special places I know. It's so hard to capture the beauty of it.

Wow, that was boring.

In the link Nice Fire trucks

Here are more photos from the parade - including every juicy red firetruck picture that turned out: :::link:::

The car show photo is a composite of 11 photos. I used Autostitch to make the panorama. :::link:::

Oh I love Your Big Giant Red thick and Juicy Firetruck, OH YEAH, HA. I do like fire trucks some are old and look classic, and some are very modern and shiny there are all kinds. How did that team luck out and get to use 4 wheelers? I wonder if they got to use them after the Parade as well? Nature shot are out of my league picture wise. I think they are tough because your eyes see more then a camera can. Often times shadow just looks dark in pictures where as in person you mind sorts it out, or how ever that works. One question though why only 1 car show photo?
lauren - 06/16/10 09:14
It wasn't boring for me. Actually reminded me of when Peter was talking about annoying parade go-ers who push their way into the streets to see...you don't really have that at small town parades. I noticed almost everyone in your shots are sitting down and there is plenty of space even if they did want to stand. I dunno what the point of this is, but uh, yeah :)

Thanks to (e:mike), (e:libertad), (e:metalpeter), (e:fellyconnelly), and (e:lauren) for hanging out! It was a cool mashup of my Buffalo Queer Women meetup members and (e:peeps). (Whoa! the little flying pictures on upload!)

(e:libertad) loves Nisha! What a great shot - they're both so happy!

It was a good time, I had no idea this was going to happen but it did and it was nice. Question? Did you get any pictures of that night at the bar?
tinypliny - 06/15/10 09:15
Your pics are just popping out the screen! :)
tinypliny - 06/15/10 09:04

On Kristen Becker's suggestion, I took Nisha to the Barkyard before I had to take her home last week. If you need some cute in your life, that's the place to go.

I had a wonderful poodle named August West that I had neutered when he was about 9 months old. No noticeable behavior changes but he was definitely resentful that we had taken his jewels. He'd lick their former location and then look at us mournfully.
tinypliny - 06/17/10 09:56
I love these pics you took. :-)
tinypliny - 06/17/10 09:56
Breeding him will pay for his neutering. You have to admit that is hilarious. :)
lauren - 06/17/10 06:43
Noo...I don't think we are going to breed him. Although we considered it (it would pay for his neutering) I am kinda against breeding dogs, even though I paid money for Ralph. It's partially because I am nervous about what it what change about him behavior wise and also that he has an undescended testicle so it's a more invasive surgery and more expensive. And I'm lazy. :)
heidi - 06/16/10 10:42
(e:Lauren) - there were three if you count Brandywine the mix. I tried to get them all in one shot but they're quick little buggers. Are you thinking of breeding Ralphie?
lauren - 06/16/10 09:12
TWO dachshunds?? Soo cute! I wish we could take ralph there but he's still got his balls. sigh. :)
ladycroft - 06/16/10 04:11
This post just made me grin ear to ear. How can you NOT smile and feel fuzzy inside looking at all those adorable puppies playing in the grass!?
