The Turkey Chronicles: Meal 6, 7, 8
Turkey Tetrazinni!

American casserole dish with turkey, pasta, cheese, and a cream sauce. Dinner tonight and two more nights.
janelle - 01/12/10 12:09
I do like dishes with leeks.... I most definitely turkey salad sandwiches too.
himay - 01/12/10 11:45
As a turkey lover, I have to recommend trying turkey & leeks tossed over fettuccine or linguine. I typically make that at least once or twice with the leftovers from a roasted bird.

I also eat turkey salad sandwiches like they're going out of style. I may have to make more tonight...

Organic Milk for a Bargain!!!
Price Rite is selling Byrne Dairy milk for $1.85 a gallon. Byrne Dairy Milk advertises that it has no artificial growth hormones. It goes for twice that price at the Coop. 4 limit per customer. I bought two and am sticking one in the freezer.

janelle - 01/11/10 16:27
Fine. I do it frequently. I've never paid attention to how long before it spoils after defrosting it. I do try to use it quickly after defrosting it. I like freezing skim better than whole. The fat separates from the rest of the milk when it freezes and you have to kind of shake vigorously to mix it all back together again, if that makes sense.
jenks - 01/11/10 16:13
how well does milk tolerate a freeze/thaw cycle?
tinypliny - 01/10/10 16:40
I bought the certified Organic Vanilla Soymilk and Chocolate Organic Soymilk both for $2.49 for 1.89 L (2 Quarts). That's an excellent price.
tinypliny - 01/10/10 16:39
The fat-free variety is $1.75 a gallon. A couple weeks back it was $1.65 a gallon.

I love Pricerite.
tinypliny - 01/10/10 16:38
From their ambiguous FAQ, apparently growth-hormone free cows may be grown inorganically.

janelle - 01/10/10 14:10
Just for you, I will double check the label. I may have assumed it was organic because it's sold at the coop.

<walking to the refrigerator>

I will have to edit my post. It's not organic. But it does claim to be free of artificial growth hormones. Either way, if it's your milk of choice, it's substantially cheaper at Price Rite than the coop. Of course, it will eventually not be at Price Rite anymore, because that's the double edged sword of discount grocers.
paul - 01/10/10 14:06
It's organic? I didn't realize byrne dairy made organic milk.

The Turkey Chronicles: Meal 4 & 5
Yesterday was a repeat of meals 3 and 4. Still good. Still not tired of it yet.

However, there will be a short break from the regularly scheduled turkey which will be resumed on Sunday.

The Turkey Chronicles: Meal 4
Simmered the bones with meat still on them in a large stockpot for three or four hours. Took bones out. Picked meat off the bones. Threw meat back in the pot. Seasoned with lemon juice, salt, pepper, oregano. Simmered some more on the stove. Stuck in the fridge for later.

Heated it up tonight. Poured it over some cooked pasta and we had turkey noodle soup. Husband thought it was bland, but I found the broth to be tasty. Enough leftover for some more soup tomorrow.

On Sunday, I want to make turkey tetrazzini casserole.
metalpeter - 01/06/10 18:35
Someone Help Me and (e:tinypliny) out here. Turkey and wild Turkeys don't taste the same from what I have heard it is something about them being raised differently, not sure if this is true.

I just wanted to ad that I like posts that follow a chronicle format.
tinypliny - 01/06/10 08:51
I saw what real wild turkey look like for the first time this year. They are interesting and odd looking.
theecarey - 01/05/10 23:18
I have a couple of family members who have said to me recently, "I have a turkey that still needs to be cooked, we should plan on having a dinner!"

Oh no!

I'm taking mental notes from your Turkey Chroniclesâ„¢ for near future meal ideas. :)
mike - 01/05/10 22:54
how random , i just learned what turkey tettrazini (sp?) is on new years eve and now i have heard about it twice in one week. How random how things like that happen.
janelle - 01/05/10 20:29
Lol, yeah, I had a feeling that turkey might get old after a while. I froze a lot of it to use later in the month so we're not eating turkey every day. But so far, I've had turkey once or twice a day since we roasted it on Sunday.
metalpeter - 01/05/10 20:27
I admit I'm waiting as I read to see how your mood changes over time as you get tired of coming up with good things from turkey. I'm not saying it will happen soon I'm guessing after about 9 days it will be something like. "Tried the Turkey Soup with friends over and no one would eat it, not even the dog or cat" "As I took it out Side there was a homeless man and even he turned it down" "Well I still have half a pound any (e:peeps) want it", HA. This Happens to many people after Thanksgiving it takes about 3 days to get sick of it for some people. I hope you don't get sick of it and that everything you make you like. At the very least it should make for some interesting reading I hope. In terms of the money thing I'm currently broke and a lot of people are. My Point is that it was a good investmant, the turkey that is.

The Turkey Chronicles: Meal 3
Took some turkey meat (chunks of white and dark meat) to work. Slathered up a bun with mayo and mustard. Put said turkey meat in bun. Warmed it up. Filling turkey sandwich for lunch.
