Simmered the bones with meat still on them in a large stockpot for three or four hours. Took bones out. Picked meat off the bones. Threw meat back in the pot. Seasoned with lemon juice, salt, pepper, oregano. Simmered some more on the stove. Stuck in the fridge for later.
Heated it up tonight. Poured it over some cooked pasta and we had turkey noodle soup. Husband thought it was bland, but I found the broth to be tasty. Enough leftover for some more soup tomorrow.
On Sunday, I want to make turkey tetrazzini casserole.

The Turkey Chronicles: Meal 3Took some turkey meat (chunks of white and dark meat) to work. Slathered up a bun with mayo and mustard. Put said turkey meat in bun. Warmed it up. Filling turkey sandwich for lunch.

The Turkey Chronicles: Meal 1In the spring when Price Rite opened, my husband lugged home a 14 lb turkey for $4. I scoffed at the turkey. Seriously, he wanted us to roast a turkey? Then I grew resentful at the turkey taking up such a large space in the freezer. But this month, with the grocery budget tight from Christmas, the turkey became my friend. And I'm going to see how far a roasted turkey can get us.
Meal 1: I roasted the turkey. It had a lovely brown crispy skin and a fragrant smell. In my vanity, I sacrificed juiciness for appearance for my turkey was dry. But the gravy I made tasted fabulous. We carved it up and had a few pieces to eat for dinner.

Someone Help Me and (e:tinypliny) out here. Turkey and wild Turkeys don't taste the same from what I have heard it is something about them being raised differently, not sure if this is true.
I just wanted to ad that I like posts that follow a chronicle format.
I saw what real wild turkey look like for the first time this year. They are interesting and odd looking.
I have a couple of family members who have said to me recently, "I have a turkey that still needs to be cooked, we should plan on having a dinner!"

how random , i just learned what turkey tettrazini (sp?) is on new years eve and now i have heard about it twice in one week. How random how things like that happen.
Lol, yeah, I had a feeling that turkey might get old after a while. I froze a lot of it to use later in the month so we're not eating turkey every day. But so far, I've had turkey once or twice a day since we roasted it on Sunday.
I admit I'm waiting as I read to see how your mood changes over time as you get tired of coming up with good things from turkey. I'm not saying it will happen soon I'm guessing after about 9 days it will be something like. "Tried the Turkey Soup with friends over and no one would eat it, not even the dog or cat" "As I took it out Side there was a homeless man and even he turned it down" "Well I still have half a pound any (e:peeps) want it", HA. This Happens to many people after Thanksgiving it takes about 3 days to get sick of it for some people. I hope you don't get sick of it and that everything you make you like. At the very least it should make for some interesting reading I hope. In terms of the money thing I'm currently broke and a lot of people are. My Point is that it was a good investmant, the turkey that is.
