When I was a kid...
and I went trick or treating... If someone offered me a bowl of candy to choose a piece, I knew it meant ONE piece. Because my parents were right next to me to smack my hand if I even LOOKED like I might take more than one piece.

Apparently, that rule no longer holds as kids are attempting to take handfuls. Although, I shame them a little bit by saying, just one please, and they reluctantly open their fist and allow several pieces of candy to trickle back into the bowl. Sometimes it is followed by a bashful apology.

But now I'm going to take control and choose for the little punks what piece of candy they get.

Should I be unhappy?
The funding for my program at work is temporarily on hold because of state financial problems. For the time being it cannot move forward and may not ever move forward in it's current structure.

The agency is going to restructure my program so it can be funded differently. However, any kind of funding is touchy right now due to the budget problems.

Just as I got the news, I had an individual sitting in the lobby waiting to interview for a position with my program. Oh, my. I had to tell them the position no longer existed because of funding. Which also means I wasted my time vetting and interviewing several other people for a non existent position.

Now I'm processing whether or not I think my agency will be successful in restructuring the program. If it's not, it will be an opportunity for me to try something new that I've had on the back burner ... being a paralegal!

You obviously have a good attitude about this. Many of us are in a very shaky situation. I'm sure you will weather it well.
jason - 10/28/08 08:22
Cool idea Janelle. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
tinypliny - 10/27/08 23:45
I think you should just go for it as soon as you can. Don't let it hover around till the last minute when you will find it harder to make the switch.
matthew - 10/27/08 17:57
I'd bet you'd make a great paralegal!

Scary woman
Tonight we were at a party where a woman couldn't get enough of my husband but kept giving me the evil eye. I'm still trying to figure out what exactly was going on.
metalpeter - 10/24/08 17:42
I wasn't at the party so I can't say. But I have a few guesses.
1. She wanted drew to her self (if you know what I mean)
2. She didn't get that you two were together and so she was trying to tell you to stay away
3. Maybe when he would talk she liked his ideas on things and gave you the evil eye because she didn't like what you would say
4. Maybe that is just how she looks at people
5. maybe she knows who you are from someone else or heard something about you she doesn't like from someone
6. When you don't know some one it is easy to miss read body langauge
7. If she was giving you the evil eye then it meant you where looking at her maybe she didn't like that

With out being there and with out seeing what was going on and knowing all the details it is just guessing but maybe someone else who was there might have an idea based on what they saw and other gossip prehaps

Some women just seem to find men more appealing when they're attached to someone else. Like its some sort of twisted challenge. You just flash a little smile, give a little wink, and say "That's right B****, he's still comin home with me."
drew - 10/23/08 22:28
You've got a sexy husband, that's what's going on!

Good Shopper
At the grocery store this evening, an older woman stopped me with a question. "You look like a good shopper. Good shopper, where do I find lightbulbs?" I pointed to a few aisles down. She replied, "Thank you, Good Shopper!".

Perhaps I exude confidence and knowledge when I grocery shop?! Anway, I want "Good Shopper" to be my new nickname in my picture, instead of pastor's wife.

=)
paul - 10/17/08 00:49
Do you really want me to change your title?
jim - 10/14/08 18:43
You look like a good (e:strip)'er, where can I find the chats?
tinypliny - 10/14/08 18:40
hahaha... that's got to be the best trick in the trade of asking complete strangers about stuff. I am taking notes. ;-)
Usually I go with, "I love your hair". "That's a beautiful shirt". "I love that favoured yoghurt you have". "That's the creamiest cheese. Excellent choice". etc. :)

Linda Yalem Safety Run
(e:James) was so kind as to accompany me to the Linda Yalem 5K Safety Run at UB's North Campus this morning.

The race started with bagpipers playing Amazing Grace in memory of Linda Yalem. And then we were off. I started with the 10 minute mile group and (e:James) went with the 9mile group. I think we both regretted it and should have moved up by one so we could get out faster. I wasted a lot of initial energy dodging around people and I did run my first mile at 9 minutes, my second mile at 10.5 minutes and the last 1.16 miles at 10.5 minutes.

I was happy to end at 30.5 minutes which is a 2 minute decrease from my previous 5k. But I had bee hoping to hit 29 minutes or under. James put me to shame with his 26.5 minute run.

We left the race full of UB cafeteria food, stylish t-shirts, tired bodies, and happy feelings!
tinypliny - 10/01/08 21:19
That is so cool! Congratulations~!!
mrmike - 09/28/08 11:33
Congrats, that is truly something to be proud of
