I already listed 10 things I like about Hines Ward (http://estrip.org/articles/drew/42423.html), but Jason mentioned football players he likes, and I have to mention what Ward did recently.
Hines Ward is a receiver, and receivers are ordinarily some of the most dainty players around.
Ward is also a veteran. This is significant because some veterans get away with loafing in lopsided games on plays that don't matter to them.
Hines Ward does not slack in the least bit. In fact, he goes out of his way to hit somebody every chance he gets. He is, without a doubt, the best-blocking wide receiver in football, and a large part of the reason that the Steelers run well is because Hines Ward blocks people that other receivers fear.
Two games ago, Ward was fined, not because he did anything illegal (he wasn't penalized), but because he was too aggressive. (This is BS, by the way, Ward plays clean and within the rules)
He swore that he wouldn't let the fine change the way he played, and it didn't. On a pass to Matt Spaeth, Hines Ward launched himself into some hapless Bengal linebacker (who had to outweigh him by at least 50 lbs) and BROKE HIS JAW (unintentionally).
Again, Ward doesn't mean to hurt people--almost everybody he hits is way bigger than he is--he just plays all out.
Watch the video (and please excuse the quality):
Dude is huge, and plays football with all of his heart.

Oh me too. Actually, not the counter, but Paul's "Just sixteen a day!" exhortations have worked their magic on me.

Janelle and I sometimes fall into traditional gender roles (I take out the trash, she vacuums, for example) but in other ways we break expectations.
One particular way is that Janelle is the handy one in this family. While I was out with church people, Janelle winterized the house: weatherstripping, plastic on the windows, and a new programmable thermostat.
How lucky am I to have a wife like her?

You can borrow me at any time, (e:dragonlady7), but I'm not sure how useful I'll be.
(e:Drew), being a sweet husband, failed to mention that when I replaced the thermostat, I lost the wire in the wall and panicked. Then spent a half hour trying to fish the wire out again with a wire clothes hanger. Then he came home and we finished the project together.

Having grown up in a house where, well, the house was falling down, I'm sort of used to pulling my own weight. (For example, Mom mixed the concrete, while Dad did anything involving ladders because Mom's not good at heights, though she bravely overcame that only to fall off a ladder and crack a rib. Whoops.)
I was bitterly, bitterly disappointed when, I being the one who brought all the tools to our relationship (Dad got me a toolkit for my 20th birthday or so-- screwdriver set, wrenches, electric drill, hammer, level, etc.), my scrawny skinny boyfriend (e:zobar) turned out to be way better at actually using said tools.
But I'm still the one who carries heavy things, especially up stairs, because regardless of gender, a 210-pound person is going to have more luck shifting something heavy than a 135-pound person-- I just got more ass to put into it.
Uh can I borrow (e:janelle) sometime? He's still not all that handy.

Extremely? :)
PS: I read that once and I was like.. huh? I am always going through this internal readjustment of orienting to what a patriarchal family might feel like, here. Back home, mum does all the crazy electrical rewiring and repairs and general meddling, by default. :)

There will be a party, but we have to put together the rest of the house first (the old kitchen is in our living room right now)

It would be a problem if it was the highlight of your Sunday.
:-)
The game was on during the electric system malfunction. Pittsburgh looks solid. Not that it's tough to look great against the Bungles but credit should be given when it's due.
