my don quixote
Category: about doha
Last weekend I got to spend some real quality time with Rory. I'm not going to go into detail but, as my little extended family, you should know that the boy is a diamond in the rough. He invited me over for a quiet night in. He cooked me dinner - tofu fajitas. He actually bought me tofu! But it gets better. He served it to me alongside a crisp cool glass of DR. PEPPER!!! Liken finding Dr. Pepper here to finding some rare exotic fruit that shows up every 3rd blue moon in Buffalo that you just adore - and your significant other went out and got it for you. Seriously, I was melting. He is incredible!

Next day we went out to "Party on the Pitch", a fundraiser for the rugby club. I took on his buddy Mark in the sumo ring, and Rory and I danced to the live music. I love being outside, having a drink on a warm night, and listening to live music. ; Especially since I've been lacking it for so many months. Lately it seems ALL I do is hear live music! Ha! Anyway, enjoy the photos. Cheers!

metalpeter - 05/07/08 17:54
I'm glad you two are happy (I'm happy for both of you). He sounds like a pretty good guy and and you are pretty awesome so I would say you two are a very good match and I wish you both the best. If that wording is kinda odd sorry what I'm trying to say isn't really coming out the right way. I'm glad you two awesome people have each other and remember how lucky you two are to have each other (ok that is a little bit better).
libertad - 05/05/08 21:20
It really is nice to see you so happy. Love that first pic.
tinypliny - 05/05/08 19:09
Wow. I am so happy for you. Though I have actually never met you, you do feel like you are family. :)
hodown - 05/05/08 19:09
You look so happy, adorable!!
jenks - 05/05/08 15:47
thank you. :)
And I'm glad to see you so happy.

I went to my first proper concert in Doha last night. We had a special showing for Education City only. Great stuff! There was such a variety of tempos and influences. Arabian, Latin, Oriential....blended together like smooth creamy ice cream at marble slab. I just thought I'd share some culture from the other side of the PM. I think I'm going to have that woman's dress made, but with a built in bra because my boobs are way to big to dance around without.

metalpeter - 04/28/08 18:12
A. I like the music
B. Not sure what movie but there is a James Bond Movie theme it reminds me of
3. It kinda reminds me of some of The Tea Party's music
4. Even though you never see a full shot that dancer is is hottie or at least banging
5. In terms of the dress all you need to do is the Christan Agularia and others double tape thing or what ever they do, HA just kidding.

dunestock 08
Category: about doha
So there's this wonderful event called Dunestock that I was able to attend this past weekend. It's a 12 hour music festival in the middle of the dunes. Fun!

Unfortunately the first half of the day was plagued by a sandstorm. Special. It's like the ONE day there's a big outdoor event, bam.

image
visibility was shit. it's not easy driving in the middle of nowhere when you can't really see

image
i don't know if you'll be able to see how hard the wind was blowing the sand...it hurt

image
one of the scottish bands i think

image
people playing on the dunes (this is one of the few places in the world where there is 'singing' sand)

image
people started getting a little loopy by nightfall (byob events produce many drunken monkeys)

image
the music got better at night too, lots of singing along and really bad stage diving- that guy attempted to back flip...

image
i was guilty of loopy behavior too. i think we were trying to imitate 'cyclops' from the x-men

libertad - 04/24/08 21:10
You look so happy.
tinypliny - 04/23/08 21:11
BTW, what is that metallic blue thing that someone is dragging up the dune? A dunerocket?
tinypliny - 04/23/08 21:09
You have amazing teeth. Ever considered Crest/Colgate modeling? :)
metalpeter - 04/23/08 18:17
Looks like a good time. Looks like people where sliding down the dunes. That reminds me Somewhere I have seen people do what was called Sandboarding, it looked like a harder version of snowboarding (not sure if it was snowboard/ski movie or jackass type movie), I don't know enough to know where it works and where it doesn't or what kind of board you would need but it could be something to look into. Glad you had a good time.
theecarey - 04/23/08 14:06
that smile is in your eyes. amazing..
jason - 04/23/08 13:02
I'll be damned, look at that smile! You still don't look very tan though....
joshua - 04/23/08 12:20
Awesome - is this some sort of bootleg underground booze party? I can't imagine this sort of hedonism is allowable under Sharia law.

Anyway - looking good. And looking happy!
leetee - 04/23/08 11:47
cheese is good. ya'll look cute and happy. :O)
paul - 04/23/08 10:06
We used to go to parties in the desert in Arizona. Which is less sandy by far and I think way more dusty. I remember, that with all the dancing it would create this gigantic dust cloud we were all stomping in and your boogers would be black in the morning.

Category: about doha
This weekend was full of more Doha firsts. I went to my first beach party at the intercon, I went to my first Dunestock, and I finally camped out in the desert for the first time. Here's a few from the beach party. More photos tomorrow. Right now I'm exhausted and really need to go to bed. Looooong day tomorrow.

paul - 04/22/08 19:56
I really like the painting with lights photo. I used to do that all the time with my one phone cam that had a delayed shutter. I miss it.
james - 04/22/08 19:52
I love that photo of you and Rory. You are both aglow.

metalpeter - 04/20/08 13:18
Glad you are having a great weekend and doing new stuff hope the rest of the weekend continues that way and I look forward to seeing more pictures.

opa died
Category: death
Opa wasn't my grandfather. He's the father of my 'babysitter'. Sylvia was the babysitter for all us kids, and we used to live next door. It's one of those deals where you kind of become family with some folks. Hence, I called her parents Oma and Opa.

On Thanksgiving day they were in a bad car accident. He never recovered from his injuries. It's sad. Good-bye Opa.
lizabeth - 04/16/08 12:31
I'd like to second what Felly said - we've all got people who, while not related to us by blood, are none the less our family. I'm sorry to hear about your Opa.
mrmike - 04/15/08 07:35
What Lee said says it all. Sorry for your loss.
leetee - 04/14/08 22:26
((((( (e:Ladycroft) )))))
libertad - 04/14/08 21:44
Sorry to hear that lady. That is cute that you call him Opa.
fellyconnelly - 04/14/08 07:45
blood relation or not, its still a tragic loss and i'm sorry for it.
metalpeter - 04/13/08 11:53
I don't really know what to say but I should say something so I'll just say I'm sorry.
