The Best Day of the year
Category: holidays
I am not Irish. I have no Irish in me at all but I have to say - out of every ethnic Holiday I enjoy St. Patricks day the most.

The parade is so fun. This year we will be missing our half irish ho, ;(

I love the little dancing girls with the bouncy hair. This year I will get lots of pics with a real camera.

i have decided to ignore the holiday all together, so as not to slip into a deep depression. instead i will clean, watch movies and make gumbo... next year people, there is always next year...

I look forward to seeing those pictures. I my self am going to mix it up a bit and go watch the parade from closer to Downtown and see if the view is any different. Hope you have a great time, well time to go so hope everyone has a great time and is safe out there.

The peace bridge plaza petition
Category: buffalo
Today I signed the online petition against the peace bridge plaza expansion . Before you go ahead and scream at me for blocking progress I want to go over why I signed it.

1. I would like to stand in solidarity with other owners of historical homes hoping that if it was ever reversed they would stand by me. I can't imagine if the government came to me and said, hey we are going to give you less than you house is worth and you have to move because we are expanding main street and building a giant truck parking lot - sorry eminent domain. Just think about that for a minute. what if you had planned on living there the rest of your life and had invested a lot of money into your house. I would just leave Buffalo forever at that point.

2. I think that a giant truck plaza is going to create so much more pollution in an area that is just starting to recover from the pollution of its industrial past.

3. Why build all the extra stuff around it. Can't the visitor center and duty free shop be located elsewhere, say more downtownish?

...includes a visitor center, duty free shop and a 477 space parking garage. It is these attributes of the alternative that would result in the highest impacts to the low income residential neighborhood. To minimize these effects, the document should assess alternatives that locate the visitor center elsewhere in the city (e.g., downtown).

Also, we could find no information in the document that supports the need for such a large parking structure at this port of entry...

I didn't realize just how much land was going to be taken.

The Episcopal Church of the Ascension
Category: church
The Episcopal Church of the Ascension next door to us on Linwood and North has way too much trash each week. It ends up all over our property and our neighbors property as soon is there is any wind. Why on earth can they not get another trash bin or only throw out enough trash to fill their bins each week.

It is really that full every single freakin' week. Here are the last three weeks as examples. I am going to keep taking the pics. Now I am date stamping them.

remember these are three separate weeks

and another

It just so looks so trashy I am really starting to hate living next door to them. The people we meet from the church are nice and they pretend to care about the neighborhood but it is really them that is mostly making it trashy - in the literal sense - filled with trash. Between all the loud annoying people that meet for their AA meetings and throw trash and cigarette butts around to the rude parents that throw trash in our driveway and park us in for the dance camp. None of those people would be in our neighborhood without them. They are the same people that make the trash cans overflow.

I really wish they would just move all their entrance space for their extra curricular activates to the other side of the church on the non-residential side. Lets not pretend for a second that any of these people are their for church services. The church just rents out space to make money. So basically, they are kind of slum lordish about it at our expense. If any commercial entity did this the neighborhood associate/city would freak out.

I know, I know - I should just take it up with them instad of writing this, but seriously - should I even have to point this trash heap situation out. You think they could self police it a bit.

Worse yet they take their trash to the curb, it gets left out for days at a time. Sometimes almost till the next week. If any private residence did this they would get a ticket. I really don't think they should be immune. We aren't evens supposed to have our trash bins showing until they come out for garbage day. Maybe tickets would make them think twice.

you cut your hair! looks great!
metalpeter - 03/16/08 10:56
Since you say it is a weekly thing then they must all ways make more trash then they can hold. Not sure if it would work or not but maybe someone could suggest that they get one of those Metal dumpsters that places like Wilson Farms and Just Pizza have at the very least they need to have at least 2 more big cans.
libertad - 03/15/08 19:30
Chances are that the reason they get away with it is that it goes unreported. You can make a complaint here :::link:::

I have used this before for other things with good results. Garbage bags not in cans attracts rats and seagulls.

Random Pics

The new incarnation of the federal building is on its way. I wonder what it will look like. Whatever it looks like, it will look nicer. That building was perhaps the ugliest I ever saw.
image

We went to the century grill and (e:matthew) had a fish fry.
image

One of our tenants pays in cash. Even though the money goes to things like mortgage, it is nice to actually see cash for once. I get my paychecks direct deposited as does (e:terry) and (e:matthew) gets checks, so it is rare to see cash around.
image

Here is (e:matthew) playing with one of his doll action figure collections. He really loves them.
image

And totally, totally unrelated - I was walking to work the other day and found these tightly whities on Elm street near the corner of high street. Pretty much across the street from the back entrance of the Allen st subway stop. I walk this route multlple times everyday and they were never there before. How do you lose you underwear on the sidewalk. At least the mud blends in with the shit stains, lol.

They are not dolls, They're action figures.
metalpeter - 03/16/08 10:49
Just wanted to Comment on the "Federal Building". I like how it looked. Maybe it was just because no other building in Buffalo really looked like that, I'm not sure. That being said I am looking forward to see how it comes out in the end. If memory serves some of the floors will be extended and it will look completely different but we shall see.
fellyconnelly - 03/15/08 22:18
paul... i hate to ask you this.. but did you just lol?
james - 03/15/08 19:23
Did Matthew roll around naked on the bed with the money and then take a shower while crying? That is what I did when Jim got payed for a large contract job in cash.

It felt so good!

Fixing a computer
Category: computers
My parents computer started smelling liek burning plastic. Well they said it did. When (e:mike) and i took it to Best Buy, it didn't - at least not the first time. Then they brought it home, the smell got worse. So we brought it back in and my mother had them turn it on for a half hour while we sat there and smelled it till the burnign plastic smell started. Luckily that time it smelled like burning plastic. They said it was the power supply. Buying things form them is relaly expensive. I was able to order one from a reseller online, from my phone, while in line. Plus One for constant internet connection!

So the part arrived the other day and my brother (e:mike) brought the computer over.

image

It was one of those HP mini compact computers so all the parts are very tiny and proprietary - besides the CD drive which looked so mammoth and out of place inside it.

image

In order to get to the power supply we had to take everything apart and remember when it went, Seriously, every other part had to come out to get to it.

Here was the bad power supply.
image

Then we put it all back together and srewed everything back in to find out it didn't work. So I had to take it all back apart again. At first I thought the new power supply was bunk but then I realized there was a switch to convert it from 250 to 120. It worked after that and I had to put it all back together again. i also learned my lesson about testing stuff before screwing it all back together.
