I finally bit the bullet and bought an HDTV. Decided on the new
Panasonic 42" Plasma with 3 HDMI inputs. Of course it's not available in local stores so I have to wait for it to be delivered!! Very exciting. With this I will sell my old 32" Sony Wega Trinitron SDTV. It has served me well for about 10 years and has been a great TV!! Anyone looking? :)
The old guy.
The new one!

Wusses!!Category: weather
I really can't believe this. There's a ticker on the bottom of the local channels showing all these places closed. CLOSED. For a little snow...in BUFFALO. I always heard how even with a ton of snow and bad weather everything in buffalo kept on going as usual but we get a dusting of snow and it's A) hyped up beyond belief even though it's BUFFALO and B) results in near shutdown of the entire county. WTF!!! Hell my drug store in Orlando stayed open during hurricanes....and we close businesses due to snow in the snow capital? Very disappointed.

LOL - dude don't jinx us! Now we're gonna get crushed.
It has been very light though, that is true. Plenty cold here and there.

It has been a very light winter. I think people are just itching for a snow disaster.

The Sabres are a bunch of assholes!
That is what the headlines should read. Ok team, playoffs are on the line, we play the Rangers.....oh let's get our asses kicked. Okay another chance against the Devils. Leading 3-0...alright we can stop playing now and allow one of the stars we chased out of town to score the winning goal against us. Our defense needs help...let's allow our star defenseman to leave town and then NOT REPLACE HIM ON DEFENSE but instead trade him for a no-talent left-winger and draft pick.
EVERYONE RUNNING THIS TEAM SHOULD BE FIRED IMMEDIATELY!!!!

The cap in the NHL is still pretty low though it won't be for long. Golisano could spend to the cap but he's already said he doesn't want to. He also said even selling out every regular season game won't turn a profit, he needs a deep playoff run for that. Well if you miss the playoffs entirely because you have a team of Andrew Peters', you're not turning a profit then. I'm not really blaming Golisano since yes, without him sweeping in last second we'd have no NHL team..but I do blame Regier and Quinn! 2 years in a row we had a deep playoff run....you screwed up boys! I do realize Miller and Max become UFA's next year...we need all the cash possible to keep Miller.

I have to agree with you on how the team is playing. But what people have to understand is that The Sabres are a Small Market Team and will always be a small market team. The point of the Battle over the entire "CAP" issue is the same for every sport. You can't over pay players more then you can should so that your team goes broke you make no money and buy the championship. The problem is that it still winds up hurting teams like Buffalo because since they are small they don't get all the extra money that you can get from say like The Rangers or Penguins or Kings based on the size of the city. I think people should boo Briere because he was unloyal. No one knew who he was and then he plays for Buffalo and becomes a big star then leaves for the money, that is one of the problems with free agency is that it kills both team and player loyalty. Eventully it will kill the game of hockey. People will get sick of seeing there favorite player moving to another team so they will just stop watching, I think it is allready starting to happen in football that is why they are trying to go international. I do think that the sabres could have worked things out with Campell over the summer when it should have been done instead of during the season. In terms of the trade maybe they could have done better but if he is going to leave you anyways you might as well get something for the guy. One thing people forget is the sabres went broke and had no money and if it wasn't for Golisano we either wouldn't have a team or who ever bought the team if we could have found anyone would have tried to move it someplace. That being said the Sabres are about profit first and putting good product on the ice with out taking a chance of losing money. I think this team has forgot that what makes a team good isn't how many good players you have it is about how good you play together. I think that team that was so good for two years were not the best team in the league talent wise. It was the fact that they knew how to play together. One guy goes down put another guy in his place. That is the same way the NFL Pats used to be except the giants kicked the ass of a tired team who wore the wrong hoodie. My main point is people have to except we are a small market team who builds talent from the minors and players who are no names and become starts need to learn to be loyal and the team needs to see that they need to be a little bit more loyal also.

Excuse me, sir...so my soon-to-be-ex-girlfriend wanted to run in Abercrombie because they had a sale on some stuff (9.99 instead of the normal 49.99 for shirts that cost 12 cents to make) and one of the kids that worked there needed to get by me and said....'excuse me, sir"...SIR!! I WAS CALLED SIR!! In my head I'm still in that 21 year old frame of mind but I guess people see my age (all of 28). It was my first "sir."
My great uncle came into my store yesterday, haven't seen him since I moved back into town, and invited me over for dinner. My cousins were there and all, had a good night playing a domino game called "Mexican Train." Played until midnight in fact. Was a great time but at the same time I thought, "damn, I'm having a great time playing a domino game and am the youngest one here by far...I AM getting old!"

good memory jenks, that was actually the apartment we rented upon moving here. The house I did on my own 100%. We're at a point where we're simply coexisting in the same apt and it sucks. Can't wait to move on.

none of my business, but soon to be ex? that's a bummer....
Didn't you pick your house b/c of her specific requirements? (AC etc?) Or am I thinking of someone else?
In any case- breaking up sucks, sorry to hear it.

I learned to stop referring to women as "ma'am" and instead say "miss." And if it's a young enough male I just say "what's up man or how's it goin" something more age appropriate.

I was gonna kinda say what Paul said. Sir isn't about age it is about being proper. How would you have felt if he said "Dude Move it lose it" There are ways of getting past someone like the shoulder tap and slide by or just saying cuse me but it is all ways better to adress the person so they know. I don't know when I was first called Sir I'm guessing I was checking into a hotel or at a nice resturant.

Wow, you made it a long time without being called sir. I think I was called sir by age 23. The service industry kind of forces it. I mean would it be better if he said, "excuse me, boy", lol.

University of BullshitI'm convinced that's what UB stands for.
First a little background...
I have a BSBA - my major was MIS, which is about as useless as a degree can get (I screwed up and didn't get into internships when I was in school because I had to work and make $$$ to survive, didn't have the parents paying my way). Can't get into the field without experience, can't get experience without getting a job...that old story. I've determined that I cannot be a store manager for too much longer before I lose my sanity. It's definitely not a career move, and moving up any higher almost definitely requires relocation which I'm not willing to do. I moved back to Buffalo because this is where I want to live!!
Anyway, as I bust my ass 50 or so hours every week taking crap from customers, employees, my boss, my boss's boss, sales reps, you name it, I look back and see the Pharmacists kicking back and making 2-3x what I am. Now I know their job is serious and important and involves people's lives, but it's a completely different kind of work. And it's in insane demand....a Pharmacist has power and can pick and choose where he/she works...it's on their terms. So I look into it and decide I will try to get into the PharmD program at UB which is very competitive. First I have to complete some prerequisites of course.
So I have 7 prereqs I have to complete. This is my first semester. I graduated in 03...only 5 years out of school right? No problem. Never had a problem with school before. Well it's week 4 and I'm debating on whether or not to drop the class and give up!! I have absolutely no clue what the professor is talking about and don't even understand where to start to get back on track!! It's all bullshit memorization....and is irrelevent...ahhh prereqs.
And UB is trash. Whoever designed the campus (North at least) was smoking some serious crack...it's the worst college campus imaginable. I literally spent 25 minutes trying to get back to the building near where I parked because everything looks the same and in many instances, nothing is marked....you often have no clue what building you're in as you make your way through the continuous "spine." That's number 1.
Second, the school is woefully outdated. They use blackboards and have transparancy projectors....I haven't seen either since middle school. Even the poor shitty Florida high schools I went to used whiteboards and PC projection. The desks and rooms are ancient and in really poor shape. My God, I spent $2500 to take this one course since they wouldn't consider me a NY state resident...they certainly aren't hurting for cash.
Third, the staff is worthless. As I sit in the lecture hall, surrounded by 18 year olds playing games on pogo.com on their laptoips, listening to their Ipods, playing games on and sending texts on their cellphones, I try to concentrate on what the professor is talking about but he's only reading the powerpoint slides verbatim...which are downloadable via the web. So why am I attending lecture???? He's not a teacher, he's an expert in his field. Which in some cases is great but probably not for a lower level course. I need someone who knows how to teach!! The TA doesn't give a damn and is even more worthless as nothing is explained and everyone is confused as hell. Then in lab, the woman in charge of the labs comes storming through screaming "PUT YOUR GOGGLES ON EVERYONE THIS IS A LABORATORY!!" and walks out. I only know who she is because her picture was on the website and she's so damn ugly. But she did not introduce herself in any manner...wouldn't it be logical to do so?!
Basically, UB doesn't give a damn about it's students and is a craphole. And I suck at chemistry. Wow this was long, sorry but thanks for listening if you actually read this!!!

I dunno - I thought the classes in my major and the classes I took in the English Dept. were very good. I attended college between the years of 1996 and 2001 so the kids in my class basically slept rather than listen to an iPod or use a laptop during class... it simply wasn't something we did 6-10 years ago.
As for the lack of technology, I can't explain it - UB, being the "crown jewel" of the SUNY system, is a microcosm of the state of NY in the sense that they are incredibly wasteful and poorly managed. Take a look at what is on offer for the staff in Capen compared to what is in the classroom to see what I mean. My brother used to work for a company associated with UB and communicated with Capen alot - my God they feel so entitled! Boy the shit will hit the fan if they do not have a brand new, absolute top of the line laptop (far more elaborate machines than their job use demands) every two years.
I never really had a problem with knowing where I was in the spine - then again I vaguely recall being obsessed with knowing where I was in the spine.

I remember the spine having signs with the building names...
If you're in the Pharmacy program, you're probably in those two towers (Cooke and Hochstetter). Yeah, I used to get lost there too, whenever I ventured there (rarely, thank god). Worst was when I had to conduct a test there and I got lost ... :-D

I share many of your sentiments about UB as well. The only thing I like about it is Korean Express and the Kosher Deli. I'm currently enrolled in two of the most worthless classes offered. But they are required. My computer science course is such a freaking joke. I can't even begin to imagine what he is going to test us on. He must have asked the class 10 times so far "how many of you guys use a Mac?". You can tell he doesn't really prepare much for his lectures. He strolls in and shows us stuff we can do with various programs off the cuff. I'm still bitter that they are making me retake intro stats. If I have to do another freaking expected value problem I think I will scream. Good luck with Chem, and pharm school.

grad programs at UB are tops. Undergrad classes though... you will learn more eating the textbook than attending lecture.

well I have another smaller TV too so I'll have one for my bedroom as well even if I sell this one...difference would be no TV in the guest room. The real problem with keeping this one is it weighs about 250 pounds and has smashed through every TV stand I've put it on except the current one. And I've lived in 5 different places since owning it...moving it gets tiresome!
Don't get me wrong some people don't have a TV and get by fine, it would be kinda cool to be like. I mean if you have one. For example There Have been times that I wished I had another TV in my living room. I like Shows and sports so I would love to watch a show and then Have the Sabres on with no Volume. If I was a gamer I would have to have a special one just for that. Or if I was a Bigger Hockey Fan have one game with sound one with out or the same with the NFL.
I don't know metalpeter. My brother and sister-in-law haven't had a TV since they lived in FL and they seem to be getting along alright. As much as I would love to ditch mine I would go nuts without PBS.
I hate to say this but don't get rid of the TV you can never have to many TVs. You can watch the bills on normal cable and watch a good team on the HD, HA or use it for video games or put it in a room that isn't for company. But that is just me.
..and then I realize you mean my existing TV, haha. I was thinking $300
Circuit City and Best Buy both have it for $1099 this week.
how much?
