Mighty Heart
Tonight I saw Mighty Heart, the movie featuring Angelina Jolie as Marianne Pearl. Great film with superb acting. Angelina's skills as an actress were above and beyond my normal expectations of good acting. There are some I saw online who object to a white woman playing a mulata who has more black than white, but I think that Angelina fit the part well. If Marianne Pearl is not offended, than why should anyone else? Angelina could be mistaken for a Cuban mulata more so than Halle Berry. If Angelina can play the part so convincingly than why should the part be given to someone who has some black in them? Angelina actually looked very similar to Marianne with her wig on. Interesting thing is that Angelina became friends with Marianne before the idea of a movie materialized. I think that my favorite part about Angelina was her very believable French accent.

Maybe one day I will meet Marianne, she practices with the same Buddhist organization I do, so it is possible. Her Buddhist practice is very subtly interwoven in the film. It makes me think of how difficult it would be to retain your faith in such a difficult time. Regardless of the faith you have, I think that this would be a difficult situation. Anger is such a strong life condition and can become so overpowering. Marianne did well in changing her anger into something positive. She defeated terrorism in a way that war and violence could never do because war and violence is terror itself.

Too bad the movie opened with a commercial for the National Guard. Someday people will laugh at us in the future when they are watching the vintage US propaganda films that compel us into the US Army to kill and be killed so we can kick terrorisms ass. I see we are doing a great job killing all the terrorists. Everything is so much safer now that we have "smoked em out of der holes".

I admit I think Agelina Jolie is a hottie and I won't go into what I would let her do to me, I also think she is a pretty good actor. That being said I'm sorry I have never heard of the movie or the person she is playing. IN terms of the ad for the national guard: I think they are one of the better military branches. The reason I say that is that they do stuff for the community. When there is a diaster they are usaly the first ones there. I see no reason why the military shouldn't have ads. However that being said i think the ones where they make it look like a video game are wrong. There are people who will make the jump that it is like a video game and not think about the danger aspect.

UPDATE

6/05/07 Yes my shirt was made in China and I ate fried dough off of a Styrofoam plate while I wore it. If I knew that it was going to be served on that piece of oily trash I would have declined. I do have to say that I am a hypocrite because I contribute to warming, but I am trying to change my ways. Too bad I am eating the flesh again. Next post Green Clean.

6/06/07 CORRECTION my shirt was made in Honduras and my next post is Mighty Heart not Green Clean.
museumchick - 07/05/07 14:31
Very cool shirt.
joshua - 07/05/07 09:22
Ok - I like this t-shirt.
james - 07/04/07 19:33
What you talking about, Global Warming is the hippest dope on the street fool!

But, right on brother!

My collection is complete

Thanks (e:mike). The only glass that I started with was Theodore so Mike found a set on ebay that had all of them except Theodore. When he gave it to me I found out that my Theodore glass had been broken so then I had every cup except Theodore. Now finally I have them ALL...hahahahah *evil laugh*

Check out the difference in the ducks at Hoyt Lake over a period of 20 days. They are getting so big so quickly!

I saw this beautiful bird that had a big red stripe down his tail
feather. Anyone know what it is?

image

What is this crazy bug? It was so hard to shoot because it was so fast.

I love turtles. This was right before I spooked him and he jumped off.

I love those glasses!!
jenks - 06/23/07 13:43
bahaha -> lib! that comment is so bitchy and unlike you! I love it!
mike - 06/23/07 11:53
yeeeah~! You have all the glasses now~
libertad - 06/23/07 10:02
I never liked the Chipettes. They are all ugly and therefore can all be grouped into one glass. I don't even think they had an appearance on the xmas album.
james - 06/23/07 00:06
So each of the chipmunks get their own glass but the chipettes are herded together onto one? Ah yes, the 80's: a kinder, gently, more sexist decade.

Take that Dora the explorer!
southernyankee - 06/22/07 19:48
I love the Chipmunks! "Alvin!@?#"

Back to the beaches you peaches!
image

As I mentioned on (e:metalpeter)'s journal "Bonus Pictures" the gulls are taking over the city. His pictures of the art festival clearly show their dominating presence.

Today I was disturbed to know that they are also taking over Hoyt Lake. I have never seen them there in previous years. Not only are they there, but it almost seems like they are starving. Over and over they would splash the lake with their feet. Looking for food? I don't know. Check out the videos I put up on the boobtube.

So it seems like yeah I'm just crazy and talking out of my ass about Seagulls, but I did some research. Gulls have become a huge problem in Britain. One person was given emergency treatment for a deep beak wound to the neck and a 80 year old woman had a heart attack after they swooped down at her. Check out these articles by the BBC and National Geographic regarding the growing problem in Britain.

One of the articles mention that after they take to a city they stay. That would be pretty sad to always have these nasty dirty birds around all the time where they shouldn't be naturally.

Back to the beaches you peaches!!!!

metalpeter - 06/17/07 15:26
I watched both videos and read both articles I think the second link is better. It has some ideas about why they may move inland. I wonder if those reasons hold true for Buffalo. One thoery I have about Buffalo is that the only place you used to see them was at Ted's and when that closed and then reopened and then closed again the population that was there moved on. There wasn't enough food around the Hatch so they had to find some place else. They sort of touched on that they don't have predators close and when they bring them in they aren't good enough since there are so many of them. If you want to take a big leap and jump to conculsions maybe they are moving inland because as the ice caps melt the water level is getting higher and they are able to adapt and move to where the water level will be some day.
jenks - 06/17/07 09:51
yuck i hate seagulls. Growing up there were always tons at the beach, and they'd gotten so used to people that they were really bold, and would come steal your sandwich right out of your hands. little peaches.

Camptown Races
I went to see my Grandparents at their cottage in Black Walnut PA. The cottage faces the Susquehanna River which has become a new refuge for the Bald Eagle that has just recently been removed from the endangered species list. My Great Grandfather helped build this cottage along with his friends. The work was completed in 1937 and took years to finish considering the harsh economic times. Since that time the cottage has been known as the Black Walnut Lodge. I have come almost every year since I was born.

This is the rear view which is the part that you first see upon driving up. This always confused me that this was the rear of the cottage even though it faced the road which is gravel.

image

This is the view from the Susquehanna. Despite being elevated on pillars the second story of the cottage was flooded in 1973. Great Grandpa built this to last.

image

This is the view from the opposite side of the river. I'm looking upstream towards the island that me and my sister took the canoe around. Once you do all the work of paddling upriver, you are rewarded by being shot back down for a swift scenic ride.

image

This is how I got to the other side of the river. It is the "River Rat" that my uncle built with my aunt and grandfather. Now it is 45 yrs old! This has always been my favorite boat because I hate motor boats.

image

This is my beautiful sister Vanessa.

image

This is her dog Oliver.

image

image

This is my Daddy.

image

This is the storm that knocked the power out when I got there. It was out for 12hrs. It was so hot and I was sweating so bad without a fan in the upstairs dormer.

Here is one of the Bald Eagles. My Dad got a much better pic, but I don't have it so here is this one.

My Grandparents have a Humming Bird feeder.

This is the rail road directly behind it. You can still hear it go by everyday.

image

The clouds were so beautiful.

image

image

On the way home I stopped at wyalusing Rocks. The property belongs to Natives but the view is open to the public. It is amazing and one of the most photographed views of the area for obvious reasons.

image

So much of the area is farm land. The cows don't even look like they are suffering here.

image

The hawks love this area and because you are so high up you actually share their air space.

image

This hawk so had its eye on me.

image

Again the clouds were so beautiful. The hawks seem so free in the air like that.

image

This Ben Franklin is in the town of Towanda. I think it is probably the last surviving five and dime. I can't believe they are still open.

Here is their historical court house.

Stephen Foster took up residency here. He wrote "Camptown Races" and "Old Susanna"

De Camptown ladies sing dis song, Doo-dah! doo-dah!
De Camptown race-track five miles long, Oh, doo-dah day!
I come down dah wid my hat caved in, Doo-dah! doo-dah!
I go back home wid a pocket full of tin, Oh, doo-dah day!

Gwine to run all night!
Gwine to run all day!
I'll bet my money on de bob-tail nag,
Somebody bet on de bay.

De long tail filly and de big black hoss, Doo-dah! doo-dah!
Dey fly de track and dey both cut across, Oh, doo-dah-day!
De blind hoss sticken in a big mud hole, Doo-dah! doo-dah!
Can't touch bottom wid a ten foot pole, Oh, doo-dah-day!

Chorus

Old muley cow come on to de track, Doo-dah! doo-dah!
De bob-tail fling her ober his back, Oh, doo-dah-day!
Den fly along like a rail-road car, Doo-dah! doo-dah!
Runnin' a race wid a shootin' star, Oh, doo-dah-day!

Chorus

See dem flyin' on a ten mile heat, Doo-dah doo-dah!
Round de race track, den repeat, Oh, doo-dah-day!
I win my money on de bob-tail nag, Doo-dah! doo-dah!
I keep my money in an old tow-bag, Oh, doo-dah-day!

Chorus

This is the view of Towanda from a bridge on the Susquehanna. My battery died here.

mike - 07/01/07 21:51
