first day at AIP
Category: school
I just finished my first class at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh.
I must say that this school is full of the most interesting looking, diversified students I have laid eyes on. My first class was GAD101. Basically, we are going to learn what constitutes a good game and how a game is created and the process from start to finish; including the roles each plays! All course materials are online, and the instructor has worked for EA on Battlefield and Rome. Super cool guy, he is only 1/2 year older than me.

I am blowing time, because I need to go to ENG101 at 6pm. For some reason, I have to take it again???

animales!
I start my new job tomorrow at PetCo, I hope it leads to a great discount on pet supplies. Maybe I will even be able to start that reef tank I have always wanted!!! The job will by no means cover my monthly expenses, but I hope I will have a steady amount of work from RR Donnelley to suppliment $6.50 AN HOUR. Yes, I have a B.S.

On a happier note, school starts on Oct.3. Can't wait. I have to retake ENG101. haha how funny! have a great weekend estrip!

You are way better than $6.50 - thats' outrageous.

job search cont. - ANGRY
Category: rant
I find it funny that a retail store sales clerk position is better filled by a high school graduate rather than a educated person with a Bachelor's Degree! Has the advantage of attending a university been overrated? Is there any advantage in the job world for those with college educations? I can't even get an interview at the local starbucks, even though there are ootles of job openings out there???

I wonder if McDonalds would hire me? I'm probably over-educated!

I hear ya, my friend. It is a full time job to look for a job and it can take a long time, as you well know! I will be going through that process over the course of this year. I intend to contact companies I would like to work for and talk to someone about the company and any possible position openings. I like this site; www.jobsearch.com to keep informed of the various companies that tend to post openings. However I found that the resume sites (monster) usually turn up collections/sales jobs, lol. Stalking job fairs can be good. I have the least amount of success with job ads. Minimum wage/minimum education jobs are least likely to hire.. i think it has something to do with that someone w/ a degree will jet at the first sign of something better..
Good luck!

First of all it depends on what you Degree is in. I don't belive in that over qualified idea. I think that what really happens is that the people who do the hiring think you are just there untill something better comes along. They also think that you know to much to do the job the way they want you to do it. If you where applying for a manager position it might be differant. I also belive in jobs where you wait on customers there is a baised towards men. Guys would rather have girls wait on them and girls attrack the guys. Plus for some items women might feal more comfortable buying them from chicks. I still think that is thought of as a womens job sometimes.

There are advantages of having a degree but it depends on where you try and get a job. It shows that you are smart enough to pass tougher crouses then high school. I think that for anyone who is hiring who has gone to college they know all the stuff you have to like balance your time studying.

Hey brother - hang in there - something will come your way!

jobs jobs jobs and the electronic wall
I have spent the better part of the last 4 weeks looking for a job.
It is a tiresom task. Most want ads don't want phone calls, so it is difficult to even follow up on your application.

I feel I can only send so many emails. I guess the whole idea is to save time for the recruiter. It saddens me to think about how difficult it is to network and meet people because of the electronic "wall" that has been created.

Have any of you (e:strip) peeps seen my resumé out "there?" I feel as though I have sent it to half the country. I will never abandon all hope, it just seems circular at times.

get paper...
circle ads...
send resumé...
follow up (maybe)....
get paper...
......

I don't know what kind of Job you are looking for. But one Job I thought would be cool to have is an usher at the Arena. Not sure about in Pittsburgh but in Buffalo you have The Sabres, Bandits, concerts and other special events, an ABA Team, there used to be the Destroyers and Soccer. That way you show people to there seats and watch the event and assuming there is no trouble not to hard of a job, money wise I have no clue.
