animalé
Cassie and I went to the Pittsburgh zoo today. It was great, they even have a huge aquarium. That would be a great job, wouldn't it? I would be in heaven if I could work for an aquarium!!
The Pittsburgh Zoo is larger than the Buffalo zoo, and it has more animals, but the variety of animals is the same. The Buffalo Zoo has probably a greater variety, because the PPG Zoo doesn't have a lot of smaller animals.
I took as many pictures as I could, but my camera battery died. Guess that is just an excuse to go back again soon!!
Does anyone have any pointers for taking pictures of monkeys behind glass??
You would think they would use an invisible forcefield instead. It is probably a lot more expensive though.

OK, here they are....

Camera shy? No,cameraman hungry.. The croc was hoping you'd come in for a closer pic..

Nice pics.. I am partial to the tigers and bear :)

I like the tiger pics my self but maybe that is because I like tigers. In terms of taking pictures of things behind glass it can be tricky. If you go right up to the glass and turn of the flash if there is enough light the pictures should come out (if it is a camara that is the small and automatic kind). I used to have one of those that had a setting to take pictures through glass. If you have a professional grade camara then you need to put it to the right shutter speed so that you don't need a flash to capture the picture. A friend of my fathers once figured out the angle you need to stand at with a polaroid camara from differant distances so the flash reflection wouldn't be in the picture. I wish I could be more help. But with some experimenting I'm sure you can get some good pictures.

Have you been to the New England Aquarium? Now that's the one to work for!

A mixed day!
The day started off bad and I think it is getting better.
First...the BAD...
Sadly, my G4 mac desktop died yesterday. It was old (400Mhz), but It was my first. All you mac users out there know what I am talking about. Luckily, It died after I finished backing up the hard drive. It was the hard drive that went. If I try to install Tiger, it doesn't see the drive as an available drive, and disc utility tells me there is a hardware error. I may fix it, or I just might let it go. It was my main internet and downloading /itunes computer. I'm not sure if I want bto use my pc for all that, seeing there are many virus and all...(what is the plural of virus???)

The good...
I am posting this from my new office! I am finally conected again.!!
Here is my new office.

I may get a harddrive and install linux on my older G4. Is there any issues with hardware I should know about? I will research that today.

at the café again
Free internet rocks. There is a huge mall 6 miles from my apartment. It has a Macy's, which I find strange, being that I grew up in western NY. Anyways, there is a Barnes and Noble of immense proportions. It has a free internet/Starbucks café. How cool, although I am boycotting Starbucks.... overpriced burnt coffee...yum!

Just thought I'd add to Metalpeter's thought . Sony has a ying yang like sign on there cell phones.

And Ladycroft, I would take you up on your tomato offer, but I don't think you want to drive to PA. Thanks anyway.

The one thing I miss about buffalo, is the roadways and driving. People in the Pittsburgh PA area drive like insane people. Nobody drive less than 15 over the speed limit. I almost died yesterday because someone cut me off at 70 in a 50mph work zone. And the roads are confusing down here. Road names take right turns at intersections, and there are 4 different Washington's within 5 miles of each other.
ladycroft - 08/23/05 14:02
Actually, (e:Ladycroft) is exactly the kind of girl who would take a roadtrip just to deliver tomatoes to a stranger. However, all my cool rides are in the shop and the current POS that I drive is fussy and overheating. So, I'll have to pass this round. Sorry!

I admit I'm a steelers and Penguins Fan. I have been outside of the city for a swim meet but never there. Do you know are there any websites where you can get information on the city? Someday I want to visit there like I've done with Cleveland and Toronto and Know TO has a couple of good websites I was wondering if Pittsburgh has a good site for a tourist like my self?

from the free Carnegie library
I can't wait, I have a cable guy coming on tuesday to install coimcast cable and a modem line. I wonder if the service is any better than Adelphia. The rates are just as high. $58 a month. Why are broadband connections so pricey??
Anybody have any thoughts?
It would be so nice if there was a free open wireless network everywhere!
Yes, some jobs would be lost, but there will always be a need for support and help desk people.
