windows propaganda and meat
Category: computers
I am at a windows propaganda speech. Norhing is new. They actally just pimped out tabbed browsing and wigdets as radical new features. Too bad konfabulator, apple from them, opera, google, yahoo and firfox have already done all that.

I guess I have to give them credit for their mobile operatung sysrem. It seems pretty good and I'm typing this on it right now.

I am going to post the whole video to youtube later for your viewing displeasure.

The video is still "evaluating"

At roswell they actually had some sick pork. It just smelled wrong. It was the first time I disliked their food. I considered actually being vegetarian again for a second.

However, this veggie meat looks even sicker.

(e:eknot) stayed after to ask the microsft guy lots of questions, then we drilled him about the secuirty hole with the clipboard viewing code. He didn't know about it.

Memory management in vista sounds insane.

There was so much traffic on the 290 on the way there. It felt like being in a real city. Maybe there is always traffic and I just never leave my neighborhood. It is weird working only a block away from work. It is like I never leave the microcosm much anymore.

mk - 11/30/06 16:22
the 290 is the most awful highway ever in rush hour. period.
mrdeadlier - 11/30/06 10:33
Um, have they ever been? I mean, even going back to MS DOS...?
joshua - 11/29/06 12:40
Where is the vegibacon at?

I don't think that Microsoft is cutting edge at all anymore.
matthew - 11/28/06 22:54
if you become a vegetarian, it will be impossible for us to find a gluten/veggie free resturant. Where would we go? even bacon?
mrdeadlier - 11/28/06 22:48
i can't wait to watch the video so i can be amazed again at the prowess of super-fetching, ugh.
mike - 11/28/06 22:10

Long Day
Category: programming
I spent a lot of today retrofitting old code. I love the feeling of refactoring old code. It is quite exciting like getting a haircut.

Anyways, I was visiting the smoothy demo for surebert when I came across this collage. if you remember, smoothy basically takes a web address, eats all the pics from the page and then displays it as a gallery. It also gives you the code to display the gallery on your own site.

The default view is cnn.com and for some reason there was the picture of a woman with a crown on at the far right. What can that possibly be about.

image

I have this insane desire to earn more money but I am stuck with not enough hours in the day to manage anything. I wish I had an investor with connections as I have several good ideas which just need funding.
libertad - 11/28/06 11:00
The woman with the crown---the police broke in her house looking for drugs. She opened fire on them and they shot her. She was 80 something i think. I wonder if she was sitting on that throne when it happened?

New Camera and New Gather
Category: media
First gather has been updated. Now you can see what you uploaded and delete or download it as well as organize little colored post its in your login view. You can drag them around and change their color by clicking the little rainbow dots to sort them in your view. The system remembers where they belong from loging to login - even across computers.

Today I played with my new wifi compatible camera. It seems pretty cool but at the same time I am not convinced about the quality of the images yet. It says it takes pictures at 7.2 megapixels but I have been taking most picture at 640x480 for my journal and the pics are not that great at that resolution.

It does great with video

Here are the pics of zoar valley. We went there with Anika. Basically, it was late so we just walked out on point peter and climbed down the cliff and then back up before retiring. It was a real workout.

Along the edge I found this footprint way on the edge of like a 150 foot dropoff. I wonder if it was someones last footprint. I mean a bunch of poeple have died here.

I know... it's probably some horrible global warming thing signifying the end of the world, but SHH don't tell, I like it.
matthew - 11/27/06 13:25
do i always smush my face when taking a picture?!? I never noticed. That's a crawfish, not a lobster. It was 60 degrees yesterday! That is incredibly warm for this time of year, the rest of this week will be in the upper 50's! Buffalo winter, where d'ya go?
imk2 - 11/27/06 10:08
they have lobsters in zoar valley!?!?!?
ajay - 11/27/06 01:31
Oh man! I've been to that point so many times! I love that tree with its roots sticking out.

But where's the snow??

Squirting a Song - The zunesquirt
Category: technology
You will never believe that Microsoft chose to name the act of sharing a song with Zune over wifi - "squirting." Yes squirting. If you type squirt (GOOGLE - squirt) or squirting (GOOGLE - squirting) into google you can see there are a multitude of other meaning that all deal with sex or shitting. I wonder if those sites will be sad when wireless music sharing comes up first. Why did they not call it "zuning" which would have tied in better with the name of the product?

image

How funny would it be if you got a virus from unprotected squirting?

Quoted from newsweek

Nov. 27, 2006 issue - Have you squirted a song yet? That's the question Microsoft hopes your friends will ask you as you ponder which digital music player to acquire. Although you are more likely to buy an iPod this season-something even Microsoft admits-the software giant from Redmond is running a huge marketing campaign that it hopes will plant some seeds of doubt. After all, iPods don't squirt songs. And Microsoft's new player, Zune, does.

The catch is that the squirt is fast-drying-in three days it goes away. Or, if the recipient plays it three times within that period, it evaporates after the third spin. This is because Microsoft cut a lousy deal with the record labels, which still regard innovative digital schemes as potential piracy threats, as opposed to potential sales boosters. My guess is that people will be turned off that the songs expire so quickly.

Here is an article that someone has written on roughly drafted about the zune.
pyrcedgrrl - 11/26/06 21:28
So if you share a song w/ a brown one is it considered "Hershey Squirting"?

Their choice of name is rivaled only by the "Wii".
jenks - 11/26/06 16:22
I don't get the zune. I went to the website to try to find out about it, but couldn't even find much info there. Granted I didn't look for long since I didn't like the site. Just seems like such an ipod ripoff. Ok, sharing songs is cool, but they only last 3 days? lame. I'm sure Apple will add that feature soon enough, and implement it even better. ;P (Ok ok, so I just hate MS).
vycious - 11/26/06 16:17
i love my zune. i cant wait till ms lifts that three day/three play "squirting" limitation in some future firmware upgrade. you know its coming. c'mon, you know it is. right? right?

Home Depot Textures
Category: shopping
I was so bored with my trip to home depot today. We are adding new gas pipes for on of the fireplaces. Honestly, since the vacuum stage is over, I finad that store less and less appealing.
