Yesterday, the Electronic Arts class I took went on a trip toronto yesterday so I was out of network for the day. What a weird feeling it was to be so detached but then with so many people. I had to turn my phone off cause the last time I left it on, it cost $34.00 for the day.
First, we went to the York univeristy gallery and saw the work of controversial artist Istvan Kantor

. His work was centered around machine sex cyber culture and filing cabinets. Robots had sex with filing cabinets and people seemed to be part of it in a very post-apocalyptic, cyber punk kind of way.
One artwork invloved file cabinets that were interactive. There was an area of the room that when you stood in it, you were recorded. Then there was a set of file cabinets that would store your video feed. Depending which drawer was open and how far it was open, a particular video feed would be projected at a certain segment in that feed. On either side was projected a video of a chair/machine having "sex" with a man.
We went shopping at an army surplus store with lots of electronics. I was so overwhelmed that I had no idea what to buy. I ened up with a sheet of copper and a part of a credit card reader. I am sure I will have to head back before the project is over.
Afterwards, we went to interaccess, a gallery/workspace, that kind of reminded me of squeaky wheel. They had a show on a dress that had fabric which changed color when current was added, I liked it, even though it was primitive because I am interested in something like that for Cassie and I's project. Turns out Cassie and I went to the same highschool at the same time.
In the evening we went out for dinner and drinks and met up with Mark Bolen. It was a pretty interesting evening.
