Sorry about the inconvenience. The hosting facility had a problem that required them to reboot the (e:strip) server, it was out of my hands. We had about 4 hours of down time this morning. That was out first outage in almost a year. I hope that it stays all good, or I will have to move the site yet again.

Unsolicited Political emailCategory: info
Today, I received some local unsolicited political email on the site from patrickrantz@yahoo.com . I have not investigated it, but it was sent to me via the email link under my userpic. It was telling me not to vote for Byron Brown and while it does make an interesting read, I wanted to make it clear that if anyone else received one of these letters, they are not "official" (e:strip) emails.

On another note, who wants to go to the Artvoice Party on Monday from 6-9 to see if we won the best blog in Buffalo contest. I really hope we do, somehow it would justify a lot of the hard work, even though the real satisfaction is in seeing how much you guys all publish and visit the site. Here's to 11,000 entries which is just aorund the corner.

I fixed the publish box bug. It should now stay open as long as its not empty, including when you return the page from uplaoding a media file.

New .amr File Format AcceptedCategory: estrip
I added support for the .amr audio file format. It is a highly compressed audio file format that is used on mobile phones. Like the 3gpp mobile video format I added before, it's default player is quicktime 6.3. However, I believe other programs can play and/or support this. Maybe (e:uncutsaniflush) can figure something out if they don't. If not just make sure you have quicktime support, it is free at

I'll just have it detect linux and serve the link instead of the embedded object. I was able to make the 3gpp work on llinux with embedded real player but only if there was just 1 video per page. more than one video would kill it. Links will be easier.

As you know there is no quicktime for linux. And firefox, bless its pointy wee head, doesn't have a working mime plugine editor at the moment.
If you are interested, i could give you a suggestion of how you could help people who are using operating systems such as linux or *bsd with no official quicktime releases experience the embedded video and audio - include the url of the actual file so that an external streaming player could be used and/or the file could be d/led and viewed offline. I know it's not very elegant. But it would be way better than an empty space. At least peeps that aren't using windows or osX would have a chance to listen and view the files.
