Hotel, Hoddies and Best Blog updated
Category: artvoice
Before I forget I picked up this weeks Artvoice on the way home from the bank, man there are some cuties working there. They Have a verry intrersting article about the Elmwood Village Hotel. It covers a bunch of differant points of view. There is one part that seems like an attack on the Buffalo News. I wish those two would just give there thoughts with out attacking each other, other then that it is a good article. There is another interesting article about the banning of Hoddies at the Regal movie Theatre. I had never heard of this but I do go during the day and havn't been in some time. There is a third piece I havn't read yet about improvment ideas for the HSBC Arena. I'm going to the Bandits game tonight so hopefully I will read it then when at the game look at some of those improment ideas and see what I think. One thing they suggested was doing something with the adelphia Internet kisok area that hasn't been used in a long time. I know somepeople don't agree with a lot of what artvoice says and thinks it is a shitty paper but I think this week they may like it. Oh by the way "Buffalo What"
"B'andits" "Lets go Bandits, Lets go Bandits" " B O X B O X, To The Box To Box To the Box Box Box" . Sorry I had to add that, if Tavares gets one more point he sets the record for most points ever in the league.

The main reason to get this weeks artvoice if you are someone who likes to have there opions heard this is a good week. They have another buffalo's best Ballot. There are at least two Catogories that everyone here might be interested in Best Blog and best website. .

I started reading the Arena article then remembered the other thing in artvoice that is in italics. Hopefully that link leads to the hsbc arena part. Yeah it does lead to the article that I found interesting agreed with some of it and not all of it. But that reminds me I saw some of the Pat Lafonte Jersy being raised in the HSBC Arena on TV last night that was preaty cool. But couldn't stay up for the game.I'm supposed to be going to one more game next week with work. That should be a lot of fun.

Fat Tuesday and its implications
Category: holiday
I hope that some people on this site got to see Buffalos Mardi Gras Parade and have a fun time out and about at the bar and get to see or expose lots of boobs. But my question is if a girl gives guys beads do they have to pull there pants down or whip it out or at least pull out there balls? It would seem fair, but that would change the holiday so much and would make things really get ugly quick. But back on track for a minute I have seen some good Mardi Gras pictures linked from an article on Buffalo.com The fact that they are still having Mardi Gras in New Orleans is a good sign. Some of the outfits I read about really bash Bush, Fema, and Leeve inspecters so it seems like for they are really imbrassing it. One of the Pictures was of Britney Spears and This Young actor from American Pie (the real senistive one who is also in that movie with Julia stiles).

But that brings up an important question. Is it ok to rebuild New Orleans? The Saints will play there next year. We know they will be hit with another Huricane at some time. Maybe it won't be for another 80 years but what if it is less then 5 years they won't be fixed up by then. They can get flooded from a bad rain storm since they are below sea level from what I understand. I also understand that it was a verry racialy devided city and there are a lot of poor blacks there. That is why blacks where on the news and not whites the whites left town. There is something known as beach erosin where beachs or any land on water breaks down and moves back or shifts. I think people need to relise this and maybe think twice about rebuildning New Orleans. If I give money and that money helps keep people there and then a storm hits next year and kills those people didn't I basicly kill them. I would say I did. In the article I read it said that parts of the ground are still wet. That is insane. I'm not saying lets leave the people who still want to live there. But what happens if we dump all this money into New Orleans then next year a Huricane destroys half of Miami and all of south beach then we have to rebuild it to. I know Humans want to fight mother nature. But is it really the smart thing to do. Maybe there could be a New New Orleans and you keep the french Quarter I don't know the gegrophy well enoguh to know.
jenks - 03/01/06 17:11
that question is near to my heart, since I lived in New Orleans for 4 years. It's a weird place. Totally different from anywhere else. And I have heard people say that the only real reason to rebuild it would be sentimental. And I guess that's true to a point... The city had a bazillion problems even before the hurricane, but I still think it would be a shame to let it go. The culture, food, music, architecture, history... I might post some pix later.

"where not worthy"
Category: relationships
Before I get into last night and my topic I wanted to give this link It is an article about bog sites in buffalo from the Buffalo News. I think it is good that (e:strip) was mentioned. I belive it was the first time ever in the news.

Over the weekend I was In a chat with (e:ladycroft) that really got my mind going last night. Or maybe it was just that I was tired and missed the first few minutes of The L Word and that and some of the closing ceremonies of the olympics; not sure. Last night I had trouble sleeping for some reason also so recalling my thoughts may come across in a strange way. I think that a lot of us guys are affraid of good girls. Yeah the slutly girls, or the dumb girls, or the ladies who only party and don't do anything with there lives are easy to take. But rad chicks who like sports. Or who are really smart. Or who have travled the world or are super busy. They are verry intimadating because we can feal that we arn't worthy or that why would they be with us. Sometimes we think wow they are so busy when would they have time for us and that can be a problem. I think another thing that hurts our self estem or confidance in our selves is that a lot of people lie or tell half turths and we know this so we don't know if ladies are telling us the truth or lieing to us. When it is some chick who is only a one night who cares. But when it is someone rad and we think that maybe she is saying stuff about how we are cool or good in bed or rad ourselves to not hurt us. Yeah so this soundend a lot better in my head last night. Sometimes a great chick is a lot more pressure for us guys. With how fast my mind was racing last night I knew if I wasn't able to post it then that it wouldn't come out right. Last night was verry strange I was fealling kinda down and not really lonely but sord of but once I started watching TV I mellowed a bit. I saw part of really funny cartoon on Adult swim called Moral Oral it was great maybe that is what put me over the limit or maybe I just wanted some hot chick to talk to, who knows.

For the ladies of (e:strip) I think I may need to start that service. Granted I don't have a cell phone or a car to get to anyone so I doubt the service will go anywhare really. Some people for theropy like to start politcal fights and name call online. But I'll take ladies hitting me if it makes them or myself feal better. I know there is something I'm forgetting. I wish I could write my thoughts the way they came flying out last night, they where driving me insane. If I feal I need to post before I go to bed it may be an addiction. On another note there is the lady I work with who if she gets mad or looks upset I always tell her she can take it out on me, she never does, but thinks it is funny. Oh in case no one can tell I'm a little fucked up in the head.

Well, I don't know if this is it, but on some level, most of us think pain=punishment. So if you feel you deserve punishment - or feel you want to be recognized for deserving punishment - that could be something you crave. Or, if you're taking that pain on someone else's behalf, you could welcome it. it could mean a lot - or it could just mean you just don't mind a certain type of pain. anyway - thanks for sharing. I don't know if we'll ever get to the bottom of it, but it's interesting!
metalpeter - 02/27/06 20:16
The thing that is weird is that I like some pain but hate other types of pain. maybe it is just a sexual thing who knows. The scapring or scathing kind of pain or joint pain drives me insane. But other kinds of pain still hurt but up to a certain point also feal good, I wish I could describe it better.
twisted - 02/27/06 19:59
That is not as fucked up as it might sound or seem. Mothers sacrifice themselves for their children all the time. It's a very nurturing instinct to want to take the pain on behalf of someone else. It's just harder to understand if there's no relationship there. But if you feel the relationship - or feel strong enough to take it on behalf of someone who can't - that's a noble thing.

Catholic Law
Category: religion
For some of you this story may be new. I have read about the idea of a catholic town before. That article was shorter version and in a magizine. I relised that I can't give my thoughts about an article before someone reads it. It changes the persons perspective and they read my thoughts about it first. After words I will say what I belive about the topic.

Catholic town, Catholic law

New Florida community would ban abortion, pornography, birth control

A sketch shows the proposed chapel at Ave Maria University, the new town's focal point.

NAPLES, Fla. - If Domino's Pizza founder Thomas S. Monaghan has his way, a new town being built in Florida will be governed according to strict Catholic principles, with no place to get an abortion, pornography or birth control.
The pizza magnate is bankrolling the project with at least $250 million and calls it "God's will."

Civil libertarians call the plan unconstitutional and threaten to sue.

The town of Ave Maria is being built around Ave Maria University, the first Catholic university established in the United States in about 40 years. Both are set to open next year about 25 miles east of Naples in southwestern Florida.

The town and the university, developed in partnership with the Barron Collier Co., an agricultural and real estate business, will be located on 5,000 acres with a European-inspired town center, a massive church and what planners call the largest crucifix in the nation, at nearly 65 feet tall. Monaghan envisions 11,000 homes and 20,000 residents.

During a speech last year at a Catholic men's gathering in Boston, Monaghan said that in his community, stores will not sell pornographic magazines, pharmacies will not carry condoms or birth control pills, and cable television will have no X-rated channels.

Home buyers in Ave Maria will own their property outright. But Monaghan and Barron Collier will control all commercial real estate in the town, meaning they could insert provisions in leases to restrict the sale of certain items.

"I believe all of history is just one big battle between good and evil. I don't want to be on the sidelines," Monaghan, who sold Domino's Pizza in 1998 to devote himself to doing good works, said in a recent Newsweek interview.

Robert Falls, a spokesman for the project, said Tuesday that attorneys still were reviewing the legal issues and that Monaghan had no comment in the meantime.

"If they attempt to do what he apparently wants to do, the people of Naples and Collier County, Florida, are in for a whole series of legal and constitutional problems and a lot of litigation indefinitely into the future," warned Howard Simon, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida.

Florida Attorney General Charlie Crist said courts would have to decide the legalities of the plan. "The community has the right to provide a wholesome environment," he said. "If someone disagrees, they have the right to go to court and present facts before a judge."

At the site's groundbreaking early last month, Gov. Jeb Bush lauded the development as a new kind of town where faith and freedom will merge to create a community of like-minded citizens. Bush, a convert to Catholicism, did not speak specifically to the proposed restrictions.

"While the governor does not personally believe in abortion or pornography, the town, and any restrictions they may place on businesses choosing to locate there, must comply with the laws and constitution of the state and federal governments," Russell Schweiss, a spokesman for the governor, said Tuesday.

Frances Kissling, president of the liberal Washington-based Catholics for a Free Choice, likened Monaghan's concept to Islamic fundamentalism.

"This is un-American," Kiss-
ling said. "I don't think in a democratic society you can have a legally organized township that will seek to have any kind of public service whatsoever and try to restrict the constitutional rights of citizens."

I don't think there is anything wrong with this idea. That is as long as there are a few things they follow. The town must be built on vacant land other people can't allready live there. This way everyone who lives there does so by choice and is chosing what freedoms they have or don't have. They have to maintain the seperation of church and state and it allways has to be maintained. That means that they get no State or Federal money. This is a privately foundend town. This goes for all businesses. This would mean that they would have to pool there money. If they where to try to get state funds then that would could be uncositiunal. I think that as long as the guy has enough money to build his owen self sustaining town then go for it. If it works it will be amazing. The one flaw I see in it is outsiders. There are supplies they will need to be trucked in and for a towne to survive people have to have a place to work and make an income and sellthings or atleast barter and at some point outside influnace may work itself in. I wonder how it would work with the college since I'm sure it gets funding. I have to admit I think it is a great idea. I think the guy is power hungery and wants to push his morality off on others and control them. But as long as everyone in the town knows what they are getting into then I have no problem. I hope it works out and they don't do anything that might violate the constitution.

Conviction
not much to say but I hope everyone enjoyed Mardi Gras even if it just was by watching American Idol. I like the fact that there are people who belive enoguh to wear ashes on ash wendsday. I saw one person today who did it in the form of a cross that is cool. I can respect that because ashs on your forhead just make you look like you are dirty and it looks kinda silly. I like the fact that someone can wear that on them and they don't have to debate there beliefs.
mrdt - 03/01/06 22:30
actually when the priest puts the ashes on your forehead it is the sign of the cross...sometimes its gets smudged. i also respect the fact that people take a lot of time to reflect on their own spirituality instead of throwing their arms up and say its not for me.

i've had so much catholic education its scary but what they taught me wasn't how people characterize catholic education. they taught me a foundation for living and acting as a conscious member of society and i really listened to what they were saying, eventually to find my own niche as a christian-buddist.
