Does anyone else think that our new mayor will get anything more accomplished than Masiello did?
Not me. I still don't know what Byron Brown is about, and that's after much scrutiny these last 6 months. He can't really claim to be inspiring or have vision. He's been dulled in the NYS Senate. As far as I can see he's just part of the Democratic machine.
I'd meant to volunteer for Kevin Gaughn. I thought he was great. But I was working two jobs and just never made the time. So, it is my fault we don't have a better Mayor! If only I'd tried harder. OK, well, it's hard to put a dent in that kind of majority. What was it? Brown 66% and Gaughn 33%? In the general I ended up voting Republican.

Kuni's is gone, and Lé Metro is for sale, so it too will be gone or changed.
There might be a new sushi place opening up though, just a block or two away. So that's at least something.

From PETA
Children will read: "Imagine that a man dangles a piece of candy in front of you. ... As you grab the candy, a huge metal hook stabs through your hand and you're ripped off the ground. You fight to get away, but it doesn't do any good... That would be an awful trick to play on someone, wouldn't it?"
But guess what?
Your daddy plays that same wicked trick on fish
And fish get scared too!
...
Until your daddy learns that it's not "fun" to kill,
keep your doggies and kitties away from him.
He's so hooked on killing defenseless animals
that they could be next!

I would hope that no one is for that completly rediculous statment.
PETA must be run by a board of people who realize that their crusade isn't gaining momentum and their power is lack luster. Because trying to protect fish by ending rerational fish is like trying to stop war by baning the bow and arrow.
Ending unnececery testing on animals? Fantastic! Not beating your dog, super! Going vegitarian or buying free range non-GMO meat? please do!

I think that's just about the most insane thing you could tell a child, that because your father fishes that you need to keep your cats and dogs away from him because he's liable to hurt them.
This is seriously it for me with regards to PETA. They do some good stuff, but they are utterly deranged. I've always felt they weren't all there and this is all the confirmation I need.

jim, i don't really know you - despite meeting you at (e:pmt)'s place.
are you for PETA's stand or against it?
<joke>is this part of your crusade to get fish out of their wet and watery schools and into your home for schooling?</joke>

It is a shame that Gaughn, a very qualified canidate who can claim to 'be inspiring or have vision'. While Byron is as exciting a politician as a bowl of oatmeal I can't stick up for Helfer either.. which did not stop me from voting for him.
God, where do these seedy buffalo politicians come from? And who forgot to flush that place while they were still spawning! gha!
I completely agree with you Jim - I share your pessimism. Byron Brown was part of the problem in Albany, and now we are stuck with him.
Don't blame yourself - blame the apathy that Buffalo voters are famous for. Glad to see you voted for Helfer :)
