"Bucky"
Category: dumb
I can't believe it is going on, what, six months and the NYS Troopers can't catch Ralph Phillips? C'mon. At this point they should just give up instead of shooting random people in the back on ATVs at dusk.

It's not like Philips is a brainiac or anything. Ten bucks says he's in his sisters attic the whole time.

I'm getting sick of the news' station reports that the search is "intensifying". Really? That's pretty sad if your best men doing their absolute best can't catch some dumb hick.

New York's finest... at their best. Six months & counting.

What the troopers are doing is they are watching the roads and doing that they will never find him. They should have used bloodhounds and hit up the woods and they may have found him. The thing is that he had like a 6 hour head start. Even with out help if he is living off the land then they won't find him. I have heard of a few rumors of why he broke out. He may show up eventully but I doubt it.
jason - 07/11/06 13:35
Yeah to be honest it is an absolute joke. I hear he is getting help, and that people are rooting for the anti-hero. Sickening.

Dunkin Donuts vs Timmy Ho's
Category: coffee
I'm caught in a war of cheap coffee. I can't decide who's coffee I like more. Tim Horton's has gotten me through so many long days at work. Dunkin Donuts are starting to sprout up everywhere. I just can't make up my mind. Yesterday I had 1 cup of coffee from each.

Maybe someone has some dirty corporate secret they can tell me that will make me chose one.

Spot is dirty. I think it's gotten dirtier. I stopped going dowtown because of all the vagrants that sit in there.

City Spot is busy (which is great for people watching) but the whole place just looks so used and worn down. Anyone remember the phones on the tables @ the Spot downtown? It used to be so much fun to go there on a summer night and people watch. Now they aren't open 24/7 and the last time I was there late at night some old guy got off in the front window and we all got a free dessert for having to watch it.

Starbucks coffee is really strong and I don't really enjoy it. Everything there is either super bitter or super sugary.

leetee - 07/09/06 13:28
I don't know any dirty corporate secrets about either... but i've heard that Tim Horton's coffee tastes better on the Canadian side of the border. Of course, i am not a coffee drinker, unless it has chocolate or caramel or both and whipped cream and milk and, oh, orange syrup is good... i think the coffee part plays second fiddle to all the other stuff for me.
jenks - 07/09/06 13:24
that's funny... in buffalo there are timmy ho's everywhere, and so everyone is excited about the new dunkin donuts. in RI there are DD everywhere, and people are freaking b/c now we're getting a tim horton's. Personally I couldn't care less. I kind of hate the taste of coffee, so I have to put so much stuff in it it's like candy. I like elmwood spot for people watching and b/c it's not so corporate.
mike - 07/09/06 13:10
wow! I had totally forgotten about the phones! I haven't been to the Spot on Chippewa in forever and a day
hodown - 07/09/06 12:30
Om my god the phones at spot coffee.Man that brings back memories. Sometimes they would work w/o a quarter. Yeah spot is played out now and dirty.Since the ownership changed it sucks. My vote is for Timmy ho hos. But maybe thats only because we dont have them in nyc and I miss it!!

Adium
Category: tech
has some cool software for the mac.

Adium is neat; a far cry from whatever multi-messaging program was out for OS 9. I'm probably one of the few people that didn't know about this thing, but I figured it was cool and worth a post.

Cleveland
Category: travel
I went to Cleveland yesterday. I have never been to Cleveland before. It was cleaner than I expected and the streets were wider. I was not as impressed with their waterfront as I was expecting, given everything I had heard about it.

The waterfront was totally inaccessible to pedestrians. Sure they had a lot of stuff on the lakes edge, but if you just wanted to walk along the water, you couldn't.

On the flip side. It was so cool to hang out and relax. I had dinner at the Cleveland Chop House. Sweet steak house if you ever have a chance to go. The food was really, really good. The only problem was that everything was so good and so heavy that you are only able to eat a little bit of everything.

leetee - 06/25/06 19:02
Glad you had a good time in Cleveland.

Remember the days in which any joke a comedian told about pollution and/or a dirty city, Cleveland was always mentioned?

We went once... but we should have done a bit of research before we did. Seems there's a groovy 'hood (similar to the strip here, i would imagine) with cool shops and restaurants that we completely missed out on. Ah well.. Next time! :O)
