Paint colors & Elmwood Village Assoc.
Category: elmwood
Does the Elmwood Village Association get involved with paint colors for houses in the Elmwood Village? Does anyone know?

There is a house on St. James Place that is literally "crossing guard orange"! It is such a disgrace to the entire, lovely street! It shouldn't be allowed.

Wasn't it in the 80's when the Allentown Association was going through some of the same issues with paint colors and preserving the integrity of the neighborhood?

Did the people on St. James get the paint on sale or something? Are they color blind? Didn't they notice when it was first going up, how hideous it was?

They must be loony living in a color house with such a high vibration!
buffalodove - 09/28/09 15:27
No, not on the corner. I think it may be in the #50's or #60's!

It's not just orange everyone, not like a pretty pumpkin; it's crossing guard orange.

I wonder if it glows in the dark!?!?
janelle - 09/28/09 10:18
I'm curious. Are you referring to the house on the corner of St. James and Elmwood ave?
jason - 09/28/09 08:20
This is sort of surprising to me. I never knew people actually go up to other people to complain about their choice of house color. Isn't that petty? One thing I know for sure is they wouldn't like my reaction. I guess it is preferable to taking the cowardly way out and ratting them out anonymously to some neighborhood org. Yeah, that's more honorable. That being said, orange is ridiculous, and yeah they probably are nutters!
janelle - 09/27/09 22:09
I think people in the neighborhood try to influence you on color choices, but like Paul said, it's not a historic district. There's no power to enforce color choices.

I don't like some color choices in my neighborhood and some neighbors were fine letting us know they didn't like our color choice when we painted.

I doubt EVA gets involved in paint colors. I think it has other issues that are foremost. But you can ask (e:Drew) about it. He's involved with EVA.

I don't know about st james, but I do know that my friend who lives on richmond was told (not sure by whom) that his house could not be that shade of pink and he had to repaint it.
paul - 09/27/09 12:12
I don't think that its a true historic district, so I doubt they have all that much control.
metalpeter - 09/27/09 11:57
Haven't seen the house what is wrong with orange? Now Just remember if they have a right to say you can't paint A house that color then they can tell you what color to paint it. What is next you can only have this kind of flower and that kind of Flower? By the way all the Buff State teams use orange and Black, and The Bandits Use Orange, Black and Purple so maybe they should just add black to it. Hey though I say if you are so passionate it about it, go take a picture of the house alone, and then the house with the other places next to it and then post them here so we can get a real sense of it. Also I assume using a digital camera I think you need to make sure that the pictures are under 3mega Pixels other wise they may not show up on here.

Hunt Real Estate on Elmwood & Breckenrid
Category: elmwood
You know, this has really been bugging me for a while now. The Hunt office on Elmwood and Breckenridge is so NOT a neighborhood merchant. They are corporate and un-neighborly!

First of all, they took out or painted over those beautiful old wooden shelves that were there from when the store was a neighborhood pharmacy. I am aware that the clothing store before Hunt did paint over some of them but it is a sin that the beautiful, rich, old fashioned shelves are gone.

I have never, ever seen even one person in the office there. They do not allow anyone to post anything in their store front about neighborhood happenings, they do not allow anyone to park in any of their spaces in the back of the store- even though there are never any of their own customers in them. They are just plain, outright unfriendly!

Even during the Elmwood Arts Festival they were not open and yet still would not even let any vendors park in their few spaces.

Then when I spoke to 2 guys from Ceceila's who were in the back smoking a butt, they told me that Hunt is so ignorant that they will not even let delivery trucks back up into the tiny lot to unload deliveries. They make them go around and double park on Elmwood to make deliveries. Apparently, the two spots that are behind the restaurant belong to Ceceila's but Hunt won't let the delivery trucks drive over their "property" to make the deliveries!

This is not a friendly, neighborly, typical Elmwood merchant. I hope that noone in the "neighborhood" lists their house with or buys through Hunt Real Estate! They are very unElmwood like!!!

Daniel Ulbricht coming to dance in Bflo!
Category: dance news
I just read that Daniel Ulbricht, Principal Dancer with the NYCity Ballet is coming to WNY to do a show in 2 weeks!

We so rarely have professional dancers come to dance here. Even more rare, ballet dancers from the NYCity Ballet!

I've seen him dance before and am so psyched to see him again!

The show is at UB on the 20th!

Hope to see everyone there!

Dance fans need to support visiting artists that come to Buffalo because if not, they will stop coming!

Read about Daniel:

Hey Paul- did you make it to the show?
buffalodove - 09/21/09 23:52
OMG Did anyone see the show yesterday?

Unbelievable! The professional dancers were amazing! Daniel looked awesome! Even Configurations looked good for a change. (Will someone please tell them that no one wants to see What's the Point ANYMORE! enough!!!)

Buffalo can only hope that this group of professionals decide to come back to Buffalo and treat us to this type of unbelievable dance again!

Thank you Daniel Ulbricht!
buffalodove - 09/15/09 00:15
I saw the classes he's teaching listed in Artvoice.
buffalodove - 09/14/09 23:58
Hey tinypliny: tickets are only $25! Do you realize that if you had to go to NYC to see these dancers, that it would cost you at least $100. It's a real deal!

Plus I read that he is offering dance classes at different studios around town and if you take the class, you get a ticket to the show on Sunday and it's actually $25 for both the class and the performance!

Do you dance?
tinypliny - 09/09/09 15:35
Do you know how much the tickets are?
hodown - 09/08/09 22:06
All the best things come from the city. Just sayin..
buffalodove - 09/08/09 21:48
Paul, he does have a great body but I have a feeling that he works hard at it! That strength brings such incredible dance, power yet at the same time, grace!
Will I see you there Paul?
buffalodove - 09/08/09 21:45
Check this out!

paul - 09/08/09 11:31
Wow, he has an amazing body - I am jealous. I guess his whole life goes toward building and perfecting that body. The programming part of my brain is probably that hot, sadly you cannot see it in any outward expression ;(
