There's so many islands in the Jabe pond, and the pond itself is huge (151 acres ). So there's a lot to just swim around and take in.
You think there would be a lot of wildlife in a remote place like that, but I think the pine forest really stifles a lot by keeping the water so acidic. It's clean, but there isn't a ton going on.
These caterpillars kept dropping out of the tree on you. A lot of times they were already dead - I'm not sure if they're just lebensmude or if there was some other purpose to them pelting you.
The best places to see animals were on the rocks on the islands. Near our beach, snakes sun themselves in all the little crevices. You don't notice until you've disturbed them and they're slithering away.
Of course there a ton of toads, minnows and frogs slithering around in the day. Surprisingly there are very few mosquitos. There are, however, a ton of crayfish to creep you out when you swim at night.
The wildest thing you'll ever experience at Jabe is the pack of dadbros that convene every labor day weekend. They have their own society across the pond. Maybe one day we'll have to investigate it.

Getting to Jabe Pond v 2015 /forest fireCategory: adirondacks
After camping at Lake Pleasant, we kept on going through to Jabe Pond via Ticonderoga.
We had to stop at the WalMart because they've killed every other grocery store in a 50 mile radius.
They have everything you want, if what you want is easy access to guns and the multi-cultural Stinky family.
When we got to Jabe later, there were a ton of DEC and state police trucks in the parking lot. Some kayakers that were leaving told us there was a forest fire they were putting out. They had a bunch of pumps taking water up the hill - but we didn't see any smoke, so it must have been out for a while.
After we rowed the supplies over, Paul wrangled up some wood with his new anchor and rope apparatus.
The weather was perfect for swimming already.
Fires and booty warming.

Top of Black MountainCategory: adirondacks
I'm posting this from the top of Black Mountain in the Adirondacks. I already broke my post a day promise but its hard up hur in the land of EDGE. It took us about an hour to climb up.
At the top of the peak is an old fire watch tower, which now has a microwave dish, solar panels and a windmill. Apparently a satellite dish is too far in the future for them.
Up at the top there is 4G. you can see so much of Lake George and the surrounding area.

Lake Pleasant Campground and bathroomsCategory: camping
We stopped for the night at the Lake Pleasant campground in Speculator, NY.
It was nice for the state cluster camping. It reminds me of all the other state campgrounds we camped at growing up.
I've never seen such fancy public bathrooms at a campground. They are all LED, automatic lighting, private showers, and even USB ports next to the sink. How crazy is that?

Logan's Bar and GrillCategory: food
Due to the kayak mishap and traffic, we ended up falling way behind on time. So we decided to camp out for the night in Speculator, NY.
There was this restaurant we stopped at called Logans Bar and Grill. I had a squash, pepper and zucchini veggie burrito with a ton of sides that was alright, but kind of spiceless.
Paul and I shared a fried goat cheese and arugala salad that was freaking amazing.
I'm not sure what (e:Paul) just said in this picture but clearly (e:terry) found it ridiculous.
my brother looks so much like our dad in the second to last picture
