After gardening all morning and afternoon, we headed up to Fort Erie to cool off at Windmill Point. The weather was perfect for it (minus the swarms of bugs on the way back).
Riding over to Canada - the construction closed the one sidewalk, it was nice to see the view on the other side
(e:paul) wanted to stop and swim at this beach on the bike path. Until we walked down and smelled this water
This ultra modern house was being constructed in Ft. Erie. It has a cantilevered second floor jutting out towards the lake.
The water was a mix of warm and cold, but very clean.
(e:terry) chasing the shade
Paul warming up
I think the best view of Buffalo is from Fort Erie. It looks so much more dense and tree-d than it actually is.

Closing off canalsideCategory: buffalo
Friday night before we rode, they had canalside completely fenced off and packed for Kiss the Summer Hello. While I'm sure the gave the city money for using the space who knows if it comes close to covering costs. It seems ridiculous they get to completely close off and profit off of one of the best public spaces in the city, on a Friday, in our short summer. There are so many other less used city-owned venues, like the outer harbor or Bisons Stadium, they could have used.

They make nothing I guess. I wonder if there is a way to find out how much Kiss/the promoters paid, versus how much gets spent on maintance. Maybe a FOIL request. I just think there are many more less used public spaces that they could have found and still paid for, without taking a popular space from everyone.

What does the city make off the space if they had not fenced it off?

Black Rock Kitchen and BarCategory: food
After our bike ride to Windmill Point, we met up with (e:mike) and (e:libertad) to get some dinner at Black Rock Bar and Kitchen. They only had one vegetarian option - a spaghetti squash burger - but it was pretty good. At $12, I thought it was pricey.
While we were there, the mayor kept walking up and down the street, and stopped in at one point. Apparently his son works there as a busser.

Chopping down the yardCategory: garden
Saturday we spent most of the morning and afternoon working out in the garden again. (e:terry) chopped down one of the trees in the back corner, and (e:paul) and I chipped it up. We managed to fit the whole tree pile into just two bags.
Paul didn't trust me to trim the hedges straight. but I managed to do one side. Terry finished the rest.
The overgrown hedges
Terry barking at Basra
The wood pile
The results

Käsemann at the Farmer's MarketCategory: boys
(E:Paul) and I find this man at the Bidwells Farmer's market so hot. The picture in the background shows him and some other guy (brosband?) holding all these baby goats and them making cheese. I'd help him milk the goats.

If I'm not mistaken, that is Max Sandvoss who played a very beautiful Mormon guy in the movie "Latter Days" (still one of my all-time favourite gay movies) in 2003. Apparently he and his brother keep goats and make cheese. "Blessed be the cheesemakers", I say :)

I love the skyline pics. Buffalo looks so tiny! At a certain angle, the windows of city hall catches all the sunset and looks like there is a complete inferno inside - like in some of the action films. :)
