An Ethiopian Restaurant in Buffalo
Category: eating out
Finally. The Lucy Legacy

But why does it have to be so very far?!

Lucy Ethiopian Restaurant and Variety Store
388 Amherst Street - Buffalo NY
Hours are: Mon-Sat 7am to 10pm | Sun 11am to 10pm

Wish it was on Elmwood and Summer.
:/

LOL. thanks! I am just analyzing and cooking up excuses because it will mean 2-3 hours. hehehe

Yuuuuuummmm injera. :(
heidi - 03/30/12 13:04
Relative to Zoma (e:heidi,52184) & (e:heidi,52183) it's not nearly the same quality and no where near the range of options. It's essentially fast/diner food compared to sit-down Ethiopian experience dining. Iv'e been to another NYC ethiopian restaurant but have forgotten the name, and to a place in Silver Spring, MD, and the comparison is the same.

Sheesh, it's not that hard to get to by bus, just go!!
tinypliny - 03/30/12 12:30
What do you guys thinks of Abyssinia, Rochester, NY? How do your other Ethiopian experiences compare to this one (if at all) - worse, better, equivalent? I realize everyone has unique personal tastes and preferences, but comparing might set a sort-of baseline? To widen the scope, if you have ever been to Meske (Hell's Kitchen), , Meskerem (Greenwich), Zoma (Harlem), Ghenet (Brooklyn) or Awash (Manhattan) - any comparisons could also be baselines...

Friend of mine took me to an Ethiopian place in Toronto years ago and i hated it.... texture is huge for me and i felt like everything was soft, runny and blended.
heidi - 03/28/12 14:56
The food was okay/good, not great. The people were very friendly.
tinypliny - 03/27/12 11:05
So food was awesome, and they are just having teething troubles with service? I would say, that is a great start for a restaurant! I need to definitely check this place out. It would be a shame if I never did. Injera and lentils are some of my top favourite dishes of all time. And I simply love African spice mixes.
heidi - 03/27/12 10:44
(e:puddlediving) and i went on saturday. i like ethiopian a lot but this was kinda meh. We both had the veggie combo - a set of four dishes on a platter with two big pieces of injera. The injera was good. The (red lentils) mesir wat - was good, too spicy for lana. The combo also included cabbage, yellow lentils and a green bean & carrot dish. They seemed overwhlemed by the quantity of people - seriously, they were creating tables for people to sit at. It's not really an ethiopian restaurant experience, it's more of a quick food/diner/take out and maybe cheaper quality ingredients than I've experienced at full service places. Lana ordered just the mesir wat but they brought the combo by accident. The wat was $5.99, the combo $8.99.

That location is cursed. Nothing has stayed open there for more than six months in recent memory.

I drive by that corner almost daily. I thought about posting about Lucy but it felt a wee bit wrong to me. I've eaten Ethiopian cuisine in 3 or 4 restaurants in two different countries (admittedly neither country was in Africa) upon the recommends of culinary-adventurous people who love to eat Ethiopian. It's not for me. That being said, I wish Lucy every success.
jolene - 03/26/12 11:15
(e:tinypliny): I've just seen many small, interesting restaurants come and go in Buffalo, that's all.
tinypliny - 03/25/12 22:04
Why do you think the odds aren't in their favour? It's not like they have any competition. As far as I know, they are the ONLY Ethiopian restaurant in Buffalo!
metalpeter - 03/24/12 13:29
Map Quest it might not be that far..... Amherst near Grant might be more then one wants to walk... But near Delaware not so bad..... Also see what else is near by.... It could be one of many things and not just to trek over there just for it...
jolene - 03/24/12 09:15
I've driven by, and definitely want to eat there before they go out of business. Not to be pessimistic or anything, just odds aren't in their favor...

Okay, I admit, I just can't stop looping all his songs. It's Billy Joel but in an inexplicably and 10000000 times sexier voice.

metalpeter - 03/26/12 17:08
I used the word better where I shouldn't have an have to say sorry about that... That reason is why I don't watch American Idol.... To me American Idol is like saying we prefer this voice over that voice... But look to rock Music people like Neal Young, Bruce Springsteen and some might even put John Bon Jovi in there, Axel Rose all have bad voices..... But if that is so then why do they sell so many Records... Why is Gun's N' Roses going the Rock N' Roll Hall of fame... I think Axel has a great voice he just doesn't use it very often.... If I didn't want Christina to rape me and if it wasn't at the same time as WWE and my Fox monday night shows I would watch the voice I think it is cool idea... I also liked when they had some rock band that people tried out for that was a cool show......
tinypliny - 03/25/12 22:12
So I was actually searching for a musical/broadway/pure unmodified piano (no strings or synth) version of "Just the way you are" and found this instead. There, you now have background on my bias. :)
tinypliny - 03/25/12 22:10
Take La Roux for example. On its own the voice is nothing to write home about, but with the tune, it has its own charm.
tinypliny - 03/25/12 22:08
heh, funny you say that. I was thinking how wonderful this bloke would be in musicals. I don't know if you can call one voice better than the other. They all have unique voices in their own way. Some voices are more suited to carrying melodies, some stay in tune, some have a delightful way of changing timbre and yet stay in tune. It's difficult to assess voices. I like the Allentown cover (below) the best. Somehow it has more raw feeling in it than Joel's for that theme...
metalpeter - 03/24/12 13:20
Well I'm glad you found cover songs you like..... Now granted Joel's voice has changed some over the years but his voice is way better then this guy.... Now I could see this guy maybe doing plays and musicals but rock star sorry no.....

One word. WOW.

I can't imagine how this youtuber transformed Billy Joel into something completely extraordinary. I love that raw edge to his voice. His covers are quite possibly the best versions I have ever heard! In fact, I would say, I prefer these versions waaaayy more than the originals. Why on earth has this person not been discovered yet?!

Just the way you are...
Category: music
Wish my committee would say this to me. Alas. Alas.

Not a note out of tune. I prefer this version to Billy Joel's version!

And let's not even talk about that infernal kid Bruno whatever. All the really good Billy Joel's covers are sunk in searches by his absolutely awful song. WHYYYYYYY did he have to choose the same name!?? The universe should have rules against someone picking a classic song name and then destroying the whole concept by some hideous teeny-bopper version,

Even searching for "Just the way you are" -bruno is sometimes polluted with Bruno covers. UGH. Super UGH.

Anyway, in spite of bruno-polluted searches, I found another brilliant keyboard version (without the vocals)

If it looks like a troll...

"If it looks like a troll and walks like a troll, it must be Apple."

The company just fell to a new low of what it is to be an ultimate champion in hypocrisy.

It just filed a patent for haptic feedback - a super convenient feature that has ALWAYS been around in Android. No doubt the next step would be some stupid patent office clerk signing off on this and then Apple suing the Android world to get its grubby manicured camouflaged paws on even more profits that is definitely not theirs and then claiming that they came up with the idea to begin with.

Disgusting practices +++

Given these hideous underhand dirty market practices coupled with snooty elitism and a horde of facade-driven sheep creeps, who feel they have inherited some kind of glory by using CrApple products, is it any surprise that even considering buying any kind of CrApple seems revolting?
tinypliny - 03/23/12 12:21
Quote from that link:

"Sakoman took Kaplan's idea, and in the same timeframe GO developed its pen computer and operating system, Apple developed the very similar Newton. Interestingly enough, you rarely hear this part of the Newton's history - but as we all know, history is written by the winners. This "stealing" - as Apple calls it - is simply a core aspect of Apple's DNA. However, thanks to its incredibly loyal and unwavering fanbase, the very fabric of space-time is generally altered until it looks like Apple came up with everything all by itself."

Sakoman: Apple Employee at the time of Newton
Kaplan: Founder of GO corp :::link:::

Typical CrApple.

I would be fine if they kept all their stolen ideas, did whatever they wanted with them and did not attack the very people they keep stealing things from. But their whole MO seems to be, let's steal and then use our sheep for erasing the fact that we stole and then turn around and kill or bankrupt the people who created this tech so that they can never speak out. How evil is that?!
