I drove though Buffalo today on the way home from Erie PA. On the way down I had been planning on stopping into town and at least getting something to eat & drink.
But everything ended up being later that I expected (7PM) and I bailed on that plan.
I miss Summer Buffalo, I haven't been to a Thursday at the Square/Harbor yet this year.

I do like the renting thing my self but one thing that would be great would be to have my own washer and dryer so it is nice to start out with that all ready there.....

JULYIts july but allready I notice cicadas starting to drone. It was feeling very dog days today before the sun got hazed out and a lot of peoples lawns are browning.
I spent some time this weekend and last on the Genesee Valley Greenway riding a bike. One trip was about 20 miles and yesterdays was about 10 miles.
The trail is along an old canal towpath-cum-railway line.
My mom had mentioned earlier in the spring about a washout on the trail but I just saw it myself last weekend.
There were TRAIL CLOSED signs north and south of it but you could walk around it with careful footwork. Slip and you might just break your neck.
Its hard to tell perspective: it was at least 25 or 30 feet to the bottom

This is it: :::link::: I don't think it was surprising since quite a number of gang-related homicides happen across the Genesee anyway... One of my former neighbours moved mid-semester to my old multi-flat house on Warren & South because someone was shot in gang crossfire right in front of her at her former flat across the Genesee in one of the streets that directly lead to the park.
But it is still a pretty cool eerie walk if you want to creep yourself out. I really the old railway bridge in the GVP. It was a fun place to take people and hang out and not too menacing.

Much as I would have liked to say yes, the answer is a big no. Spread over the whole summer and fall, I covered quite a distance thanks mainly to my landlady who lived beyond the trail and drove circuitous routes to drop and pick me up at various points. In additiona, the international office had some relationship with the "friends of the greenway" and organized several trips for many of us that semester (so not all of the walking was by myself either. Only some of it was... and unfortunately it was the stretch where the murder happened, or so they told me!)
I had just learned to bike then and couldn't quite work up the effort to take the bike beyond Genesee valley park. hehe

Looks fun. I haven't heard any cicadas here yet. When I was living in south Carolina back in 1995, the cicadas were so plentiful that it was deafening sometimes.

I think there were a few murders there a couple years back... that was one of the reasons people were concerned. I didn't know about them at that time, but it did keep me away from the trail later.

Wow - I walked that complete trail in my 3rd semester by myself and later freaked out many sheltered people in my department who thought it was unthinkable. I especially liked the old railway bridge... Did you go past it? I don't know if you could ride your bike on it though. You had to whack a few bushes away to get to that trail leading to the bridge at that time.

being patientI am being patient with the house. It is weird to complain about how long things take when you don't actually know how long they should take.
Everything has been going smooth so far, the inspections were no super big deal. The mortgage is waiting at the underwriter, they are supposed to be done with it by next week.
The lease on my apartment was up in May and my landlord wanted to sign me up for another 12 month lease. I explained that I was looking for a house to purchase at the time, and no, I couldn't really do a 12 month lease but how about we continue our month to month and I can give a 2 or 3 month notice.
She didn't bite so for June I've been staying at my parents house in my sisters old room. Flower sheets and everything.
So I'm trying to be patient. I just want to get in the house and work on it. I want to put a hedgeline in the front and maybe an apple or pear tree.
Some pictures from the appraisal:
PUT AN APPLE TREE IN HERE
Very park-like and also, next to a park.
Not included in the floorplan is the ridiculous, non-code conforming 'finished' attic. No-one may sleep in that firetrap on my watch but we can definitely do some dual upstairs/downstairs shower-time

The waiting part is so hard. We wanted to move so bad into the 24 but the then owners would not move out. It was annoying because we had a similar situation where our landlord wanted a longer lease. Luckily, we ended up with a pre-occupancy agreement, meaning they would not relinquish ownership till they were ready but we could live there. Part of it was we got all of their 2 tons of junk which sucked. Good Luck!
