Great Analogy
Category: web

copyright infringement != theft
Theft occurs when one deprives the owner of the original.

Taking a picture of art in a museum can be considered copyright infringement, but it is certainly not the same thing as thieving the original.

Copyright is such a spade of tripe.
metalpeter - 06/10/11 16:48
That is Great....

Copyrights with the internet is so complex really.... For example lets say an artist posts his work in a way he isn't selling it but says you can buy it...Now I like that art and hit the share button or I click on that picture and download it... Well is either or both of those copyright infringement..... (think Facebook)

Here is another example what he could have done is posted the work on Deviant Art or some other artwork site.... There you can set up art so if you right click to download it won't let you..... Some artists set up the page so you can share art you like and some you can't post it to other blog sites like myspace and facebook..... So by not doing it this way are you doing so because you are willing to share your art?

So things on the internet get pretty tricky.....

What about taking art and altering it.... This is what AP was suing the artist (yes they came out with a website that I used to make my current user photo aka AVATAR) who did the Obama poster... They claimed that since their photo was used it was infringement the artist claimed no I used my talent (maybe just a computer program who knows) and I altered the photo so this is owned by me.... I wanted to write a post about this but wound up covering it here. The Question I had is what about Tattoos ... There are people who get famous art inked on them if it is the exact same is that infringement if so how much do they have to change... What if it is just based on that but still looks like it........

Who is playing? And what is the genre? If it is jazz, that would be the way to go!
metalpeter - 06/09/11 20:00
That is interesting and a neat idea as long as you don't do it where people want to dance..... The other upside is a bet standing behind them you can see great....

Drawing With Math
Category: art
I needed to take a break from programming content systems. These pictures are formula driven and took random color samples from the pic of (e:mike) high fiving the skyway , and were inspired by that guys parasol.

When passwords are usernames
Category: web
This is a stupid practice for anyone. Never make your username/password the same thing, never make them both tiny numbers.

I can't believe there is this commercial paging and directory software for hospitals/government organizations that exists where the vendor must be encouraging customers to use login/password combos that are both that same publicly available ids.

Its so silly because the numbers are so low, even if you didn't have the lookup ability you could just guess, say 4004/4004 until you got it right. Clearly, you can't 100% blame the vendor on this as anyone in their right mind would recognize that is not a secure setup. Especially for an app on the open, public web.

It kills me because I want to tell the people so bad that their data is totally vulnerable but at the same time, I don't want to get involved. Its a real moral dilema.

Even worse, older versions of the software simply let you set the cookie to the ID you want and you are in. That is just lunacy. They fixed the cookie issue after I contacted them by phone a couple years back. Looking back it was so funny trying to explain to their software engineer how insecure using that cookie was - he was not getting it at all.

Sadly, some of their customers haven't upgraded. If I was the vendor I would give away free upgrades because if anyone does exploit this, they will lose all of their credibility.

Its even worse because the vendor lists the organizations right on their homepage.

This is true by default for many modems and routers btw.

Libertad's Dragon
Category: pride
By the time I unlocked my phone and got the camera ready (e:libertad) was already almost gone. The pic still came out pretty cool with Lara and Cindy in there. In the large size you can see (e:libertad) pretty good.

I have some pictures of the dragon but didn't notice him weird yet to post I know sorry trying to get the slideshow thing working....
tinypliny - 06/08/11 17:24
I hate that about the phone! I wish it were faster! I totally wish it were an instant camera thing rather than having to go through all those steps.
