Bear cub
Category: home
I could tell (e:terry) didn't quite believe me that seeing bears is a pretty common thing at home. There was a bear cub hanging around my former house at home this morning. A neighbor posted these on fb and I stole them since I couldn't share them on fb. Someone commented, "yeah that same one was way up by my house yesterday around 3"

So cute but very scary possibility of mama-attack! Was she around? Do you know?

BTW, I just saw a dog on Elmwood the other day that looked so much like this bear cub.

That is awesome. I would be very tempted to pet it. But I would be a little nervous Momma would be nearby.
metalpeter - 04/10/11 13:56
Yeah first thought is lets go pet him he looks so cute... Second thought is wait that is a bear with claws think I'll stay away.... Before third though Momma tears me to shreds.... Ha.. Nice photos

Cubs are just scared and lost. Mamas are fierce because they're protecting cubs. Otherwise, they're more likely to run away than be scary. A particular bear may become a regular at your backyard feeders - my parents put out corn all winter and end up with a flock of turkey, several deer, and a regular bear or two.

That is so cute. Are they mean or friendly?

Terry won!
Category: friends
Terry won a cup stacking game as part of the buffalo science museum beerology fundraiser. This is a very fun event. I was surprised we didn't see anyone we knew... well, someone recognized me and handed me four unused drink tickets, and some stranger handed us an additional two drink tickets... Did I mention it was fun? We heard Peter Jablonski talk about the history of breweries in Buffalo. We looked at several science museum exhibits. As a former DC-area resident, I perceived it as more like a museum of old museum exhibits than a serious museum. At the same time, the WNY exhibits were kinda cool, and Stuffy the bison was very cute. Snowshoe rabbits... not so much. Chruscikis are yum, the pizza was gross. K Sisters Pierogi - yum.

Laptop set up
Category: work
Is so tedious. I want to take it with me already but it has to be able to do anything I need while I'm out & about. So far I like it a lot. It's so light! I wish it had an external volume control (standard on toshibas).

No, just setting up all the software and tweaking Win7 so that it's completely functional. My main work machine has to be Windows-based because my most important work software - QuickBooks Premier Accountant Edition - only comes in Windows.

I had never fully migrated to the Toshiba (on the left in the pic above) two years ago and I've decided to move into the Sony fully.
tinypliny - 04/06/11 04:38
What are you putting on it? Linux?
tinypliny - 04/06/11 04:37
I have an external volume control on my old-new Toshiba. I really like it for those time when you just don't want to muck around with the touchpad or the keyboard.
paul - 04/05/11 23:31
Nice. Ive never seen an external volume control.

And so it says on the BIG label right next to it. WTH was I thinking.. hehehe. It does look like an awesome mini-car prototype though.
heidi - 04/02/11 00:42
  • giggle*it's a roller skate! Hannah is a derby girl in lancaster, pa.
tinypliny - 04/01/11 19:37

Conference 2
Category: school
I'm at the cornell law school fracking conference with my friend hannah. We're laughing at the industry hacks. They sound like idiots in comparison to the academics with their nuances and complex understanding. Maybe we'll go to ithaca beer company to celebrate our hippieness with some flower power.

They're the pack of markers she's using. Staedtler triplus fine liner.
paul - 04/01/11 16:43
I like the color tabs on whatever that packet of info is to the left of her hand.
