Libya Attack
Category: war

WASHINGTON - The United States on Saturday unleashed a barrage (110) of Tomahawk missiles against the Libyan regime's air defenses but ruled out using ground troops in what President Barack Obama called a "limited military action"

Here we go again with another war. I can't freakin believe we are attacking Libya. I don't believe this mission is about protecting anyone - its about Britain, France and the US protecting oil. How many fronts can their be? If its about protecting people, where were we in Dafur? The only reason we are there is because there is oil and we need to make sure its safe.
jbeatty - 03/20/11 10:41
(e:tinypliny) there has been plenty of money in nuclear medicine for research if you are studying traumatic brain injury. None of it is coming from the NIH. It's all from the DoD. Apparently you have to have a war wound in order to get some federal dollars.
metalpeter - 03/20/11 10:05
The thing that is kinda funny is Friday Night on Bill Maher actor/Comedian/ and conspiracy theorist Richard Belzer said we are in 3 or maybe he said four wars something about Pakistan and Afghanistan and Libya now the response was no we aren't we aren't fighting Libya and he said check the news in an hour.... I missed it Friday night and watched it Sat. Morning when I went on line the 1st thing I saw on Yahoo was a picture of a Fighter plane on fire falling through the sky.... The Picture was amazing I wish I was that skilled.....

I doubt many believe in "The American Empire" but we have armies all over the world.... Yes I get it that if they are needed they can go from Germany to put down a French uprising or what ever instead of leaving from here.... But I do think that "The Industrial War Complex" is real.... If there isn't an enemy then one is made up... See if you don't have an enemy than who needs Government Protection.......

There is a lot of money to be made off of war and weapons and Death... Not to mention all the companies that make weapons and if you want to really go insane sell them to both sides.... And sell the better weapons to the side they want to win.....

Meanwhile in Bahrain Saudi troops are mowing down protestors. And yet the US just can't seem to bother with them. Libyan oil production is pretty small, particularly for US corporate interests. This is France's baby. But, Jesus Christ, this wont stop us from launching $62million dollars worth of missiles.
tinypliny - 03/20/11 00:21
And this year, everyone has been told there is no money for any research either. But yes, there is plenty of money for killing faceless people in some other part of the planet if it will give people with the money more oil to fly around in jets.
tinypliny - 03/20/11 00:17
Freudian slip and possibly true.

Actually, I believe it and it's not so conspiratorial anymore if you look at most of the incredibly self-serving and downright short-sighted rich-serving policies of "governments" all across the planet.
paul - 03/19/11 22:02
Oops. That should have said, "as puppets."
paul - 03/19/11 22:01
I know this is so conspiracy theorist but I really think the actual government doesn't really make any decisions. Thats why superficial changes like party affiliation make no difference. The world is surely controlled by some elite mix of the super rich who use politicians ass puppets.
jbeatty - 03/19/11 21:44
I agree more BS from Washington. I regret voting. Obama is just as bad as every other president in my time. I'm so sick of the war mentality this country has. We have no fucking money for healthcare or education but when it comes to bombing dark people with oil we have unlimited funds. Stop killing people in my name with my tax dollars fuckheads!

Windows 7 EEE tablet
Category: hardware
I don't normally promote anything windows but I think this might be exactly what (e:tinypliny) is looking for

tinypliny - 03/20/11 00:14
Someone in my brother's circle has this and apparently the thing D.R.A.G.S with even 4GB RAM.
tinypliny - 03/20/11 00:12
When I was looking around to see how best to blow my $1k, I did look at some reviews of this tablet on Amazon. This one probably sums it up the best: :::link:::

Everything about this tablet awesome EXCEPT windows7, that drags down everything that is awesome 7 notches down. I am hoping that google slate with chrome OS will fill in this void. But maybe that is wishful thinking...

Happy Birthday Matty

Dearest (e:matthew),
May your year be filled with silver trays of oysters and no pollutants. At least we started it out right.

Ladybugs meet lightbulb

Apparently ladybugs big and small love warm halogen light bulbs enough to fry to them.

Note: This bulb was outside.

Although someone told me once that the reason they add iodine to salt is that our great lakes region soil is iodine poor.
paul - 03/18/11 17:24
The best for us is local produce. Its priceworthy, the carbon footprint is low, its super fresh. Only problem us we live in a 6 months of winter climate. I can't wait for the farmers market to come back.
tinypliny - 03/18/11 00:53
I can't believe I just said all that. I don't think life is worth giving up for any level of comfort at all. Those bugs were foolish. It is a gift to be alive and healthy and I probably would like to go down due to uncontrollable causes instead of a wimpy OD-ing on some chemical. That is just not me at all.
tinypliny - 03/18/11 00:24
I think muscle relaxants are a better way to go. :::link:::

Not that I am recommending anything...

I actually don't know if morphine is more painless and comfortable or skeletal muscle relaxants are. In my med school, skeletal muscle relaxant overdose was a lot more popular among people who were ready to move on.
paul - 03/17/11 23:45
Isn't that the magic of morphine.
tinypliny - 03/17/11 23:26
That is such an interesting observation... to die by choice in comfort. I would prefer to leave this planet that way...
metalpeter - 03/17/11 18:40
Is it a Chemical attraction like with bug zappers or a heat thing... Cause I know I love heat and have been burned more then a few times (never bad enough to be a burn burn like real damage) but i wonder if it provides such a sense of comfort they die by choice .....
tinypliny - 03/17/11 17:37
It's probably like their personal incubation chamber.
tinypliny - 03/17/11 17:36
There are a quite a number of bugs in each of my CFLs indoors.. I clean them out once a year or so.

The Magic of St. Patrick
Category: history
I saw this poster at city hall the other day. How did the Irish of blackrock think they were going to "take over Canada" and hold it ransom?

They were desrcibed as an irregular army of Irish American invaders

If wish I was there to see it. If there are not reactments of this, we should start one.

tinypliny - 03/17/11 17:37
If you do, I am signing up for a role.
