When logged into the mobl site, there is a new location button. If you click it, and are using a mobile phone that supplies location data, it will go ahead and load your location into a blog and let you type the title to publish.
You can also just click the location button on the regular mobl publisher
And from the non mobile site publisher for those using it on mobile devices or devices with accurate geolocation like a netbook or ipad.
Unlike facebook, everything on estrip is public so think about that before you publish something you don't want people to know about.
I'll make it do some fancier stuff when I have some more free time. I wanted to do this for years but everyone always thought it was so creepy. Now its practically mundane.
I thought if you collected it all you could start forecasting social occurances like weather. e.g. there is a 40% chance of someone from your social group eating at panos next tuesday, etc. I am sure the folks at facebook and foursquare are already developing that. It must be nice to have so much data to mine.

upload now accepts .jpeg filesCategory: estrip
I made it so the multifile upload now accepts .jpeg files as facebook seems to stupidly export pictures from their galleries with that extension. You can also upload 20 files at time now.
metalpeter - 08/22/10 09:57
Well it used to be 20 but then with the new version it became 10. The most I could ever upload was 11 if I tried 12 they all wouldn't upload (guessing my computer would time out or something I don't understand).
I assumed .jpeg where included since they are one of the many different kind of picture files, but I was wrong, glad they can be uploaded now, that could be why a long time ago (years) why I couldn't up load some photos? Glad for the two updates.

I thought you could always upload 20 at once.

estrip.com is finally oursCategory: web
After years of trying to get ownership of it. We now own estrip.com. No more worries about it turning into a porn site. It cost a good chunk of change but I think in the long run it was worth protecting our assets by owning the .com.
For now estrip.com just redirects to estrip.org. I think it will probably stay that way as I am not going to reprint the bumpster magnets and seeing as we are non commercial it makes more sense.
The most creative story about it was when (e:twisted) wrote to the former owner - who we will never mention again by name or company as part of the purchase contract - to say her name was Ester Stripinopolous and that she was looking to purchase the domain back in like 2004 or 2005.

I still think that could have worked! (If that guy hadn't been so freakin' heartless.)
Congratulations! My (e:strip) bumper sticker is now 100% legit. (Not that there's anything wrong with being illegitimate...)

Estrip 8 - now liveCategory: estrip8
This is my first test post from estrip8. I am sure there are a ton of issues seeing as I programmed it piecemeal over the last 6 years about 2 hours a week and have scrapped and restarted over a bunch of times. It does not necessarily represent a lot of new features, but rather brings it up to date with my surebert framework so that I can more easily add new features and fixes in the future. Hope you enjoy it.
Sorry about the lack of themes. I will create them shortly. I have some already in production.

Hey (e:Paul), I can't seem to find the RSS feed for the site.
The site looks good! And fast too (judging from the float number at the top)

I really enjoy the new version. Today is the first day I really got to try it out. It seems so much faster.
I tried to sign in from my Roswell computer but it wouldn't let me. Maybe it is cause they use Internet Explorer?

Congrats! Thank you for putting so much work into it, Paul.

I switched the default map type to satellite, it seems more interesting that way. Especially at the zoom level I have it at. If you click any of the maps on the journals themselves, they turn into dynamic maps you can move around, change map type, etc.
This seems like a pretty cool idea even though I don't have a mobile device.
In terms of being creepy yeah I think if it did it automaticly it would be. But the user choses to do so..... It is also a nice way (I assume) to let someone know where you are or if you are there live or delayed. What I mean is say I'm at the fair as an example and I take a picture of this huge organ, then I use my phone to automaticly say where I am then you see the location and know I'm at the fair. Then you can post a comment I'll be there in 20 minutes. As opposed to this. I'm at the fair and take pictures and one of them is of a ride that is lit up and then I leave and when I stop to take a picture of the Basicilica and find something to eat I upload the previous picture. Well now when you see the post you know that I'm not at the fair ...............
