All I can say is that I lived in that Ohio and was able to vote on Issue 3, a casino proposition
My gut is that it will be close as this is the fifth time in 20 years that they have tried to pass such a proposal, but the first time with the economy being in shambles. Deep down I know that casino's are bad for a local community as I worked in one for far too long, and what jobs they do create is offset by the local businesses that they destroy. But people have some kind of sick desperation for a job with benefits, no matter what the cost to their family life or community. So who knows will these "heartland" people blow off their church leaders in favor of a quick fix with the hope that they will get hired at some shitty casino job? Other than that I am getting a kick out of the NY 23 race. It's not everyday that the nation at large gets to see out 'Conservative" Party at work. As in this case it wasn't sold off to the one of the two major parties for it always seems to be the case.
Ya, I found out what those props were this evening at 9:30. And I voted wrong on 2 of them... oh well.
Apparently, all three were good, even if #3 was Michelle Iannello's baby.
It was the very definition of an off year election, way off. We had a press event this morning where I got into this discussion with of all people the county executive. Some of the surburban districts have the new machines, but where I go, it was the same old levers, but it was a little surreal to stand by an exhibit to shoot the election breeze with our current big cheese.
I hear you (e:heidi). I'm still not sure how to find out what to expect on the ballot. Didn't do any research this time but for the primary I tried to find out what would be on it but came up empty handed.
I wish (e:James) had included the ballot propositions in his obligatory election post - I had done no research and didn't know what they were, particularly #3.
