Am I rich or poor?
Category: philosophy
Often when we talk about people with money or with out we call people rich. But what is being rich really? At what point do you become rich. What if you make 1 million dollars a year but but you have a huge house and expensive cars and so after gas and food you have no money to do other things? What rich means to me is that you have enough money that you can do what you want with out having to make a choice. For example if you can get season tickets to the Bills and still go see some sabres games you might be rich. But if you have to chose then you wouldn't be rich. Do I want a new computer or a new TV then you are not rich. But if you Walk into best buy and pay with cash or a debit card for nice big TV and a computer with a HD monitor and Bluray disc player you are rich. I want to also explain that I'm talking about being rich and not wealth. Someone might say they are the same, but they are not. Being rich is just about how much money you have. When you figure in wealth you figure in things. For example you own land, cars, fancy jewels , or pricey art those things are counted into your wealth. Hey maybe you don't have a dime to your name but you have all that stuff (and you own it) then you are wealthy. I know I'm not rich, but am I poor. My paycheck doesn't make me feel poor, but I also don't figure out how much a make a year and then figure out if that makes me poor. I know sometimes I feel both rich and poor. For example right now I don't have much food in the house so I feel poor. When I sit up at the glass at a Bandits game I feel rich. When I forget to pay bills I feel poor. When I was at the Penguins game I felt rich. When I go to a game and can't really spend money on food and do it anyways I feel poor. When I want a small TV (so I can watch Hockey and a show at the same time) and don't have the money I feel poor. When I'm at an event and think these are nice seats then think that if I had a women I might not have the money for both of us then I feel poor. But then when i think hey the temps are paid less them I am then I feel rich. I think that I'm neither poor nor rich. I think that you are what you feel. So maybe when I feel rich I am and when I feel poor I am, not really sure?

(e:Drew) what you say is very true. I admit I know I should give more, there are a lot of people who are worse off then me.

(e:Jenks) that sounds like a lot of money to me. That sounds like pro athlete money.

(e:) Jason I'm not sure at what point I would feel rich all the time. One of the problems is as I have learned over time the more you make the more you spend

(e:Libertad) I love the way you look at (e:hodown) making money on her back, I'm guessing that if that was how she really made her money that way it wouldn't be that much for that profession but who knows, HA.

Thanks for all the comments, I still find it odd that being at something makes me feel kinda like I'm rich and then sometimes I feel poor. I'm not going to see Rent I don't think I have the money. When I eat I go to like the chain places and not the places for people with more cash like what ever that steak place is downtown. But if I where to go to someplace nice then go to Rent then I would feel maybe in the middle someplace but then you see people who go to all the Musicals there and sometimes that makes me feel not poor, but less off. But see that is kinda silly in way, just because they dress fancy and go to Sheas doesn't mean they are rich that just might be how they spend their money.
libertad - 01/08/09 13:32
You made 18k while on your back (e:hodown)? Not too bad.
hodown - 01/08/09 11:18
(e:Jason) for 250k, heck I'd feel loaded. I lived on 18k in Buffalo when I was on my own back in 1999-2001
jason - 01/08/09 10:26
In Buffalo, I would feel rich on 250k.
jenks - 01/08/09 09:58
Someone told me the other day that he read some article (I have no idea where) that said to be "rich" these days you have to make 3 million a year.

Maybe it's just me, but that seems a little excessive.
drew - 01/07/09 23:36
It's all a comparison game. Don't compare. Be glad that you have what you need, enjoy the something extra, and practice generosity. It's the best way to feel rich, whatever you might have.

Left early pissed off
Category: work
I don't like to blog about work but I have to today. First of all I do have a very good boss, and we do have a lot of good things on the job. I like my work and think I'm pretty good at it and work very hard at it. I do like what I do. I do like the people I work with personally . Yes that is different then work wise. Maybe it is just me but man is there drama there a lot. Not to mention people who are just dam lazy. Today it got to me and I lost it and had to go, fuck it. I worked a full day but I couldn't help people finish, ARGGGG. I know that what other people do isn't really my concern and it is the bosses. But see when people do something a certain way that I think something shouldn't be done and then that helps cause a problem between two other people that pisses me off sometimes. Sometimes I feel like a tiger or a dragon and today I was heated good thing I can't breath fire and I don't have claws cause I'm not sure who but their would have been some major pain be put down on them and none of them could have slain me. Some times I think I might need some help. But then I think no I'm just driven and that is a good thing I guess, hey most of the day was good until the end, well back to work early in the morning again. Yeah only 2 more days to go.
metalpeter - 01/08/09 18:32

Bandits eat the wings
Category: photos
So my quick recap of the game is that it started out with a few glitches during the intro. But they did drop the new championship banner so that is cool. The wings starting out scoring first and for a long time the game was kinda close. Then the Bandits got a good lead but at the end The Wings tried to comeback but didn't do enough and the bandits won. Here are some random pictures from the game.

After the game last night I did get home in time to watch the end of the Chargers vs. Colts game what a great game that turned out to be when I tuned in. Bandits won the opener so I'm happy.
metalpeter - 01/05/09 20:18
There where a few problems like when the bandettes came out the first time they couldn't cue up the right song. Then when Dave came down the steps Pipping it was hard to hear him, I guessing that there was problems with his mic, I assume they use something to amp up the Bag Pipes not sure. Before he came down the steps they had a few people come out of where like the Zamboni entrance is so maybe that threw things off a bit. I'm guessing that since they had the Championship Cup on the field and the banner being shown that this might have been a one time thing we shall see. "lets go bandits"
jenks - 01/04/09 17:32
whoa- they have multiple bagpipers now??

Part 2 e:New Years Eve 09
Category: photos
For those of you reading this my previous journal has pictures from new years eve also.

I can remember when I was a kid and we did the family New Years Eve thing sometimes that some times people would list their resolutions and that would be interesting. I think if people want to change then New Years is a good way to find a time and reason to do so, it is like starting a new. I really don't do that because I know I won't follow them anyways. Then there are people who also reflect back on the year they had with highlights and lowlights and that is I think a better way for those people who are lucky enough to be able to do that. This year for me has been a year with some changes towards the end of it but not because of me directly because of my sis having a kid and then my cousin has a kid also now but again I don't think that changes my year. Yes I did meet some new people this year. Yes I went to movies that where different then the year before. Yes I loved watching the Olympics . But nothing Major happened that to me, I didn't go on any Major trips, wait that is wrong I went to My Cousins weeding in NC and that was fun, I forgot about that. I'm not saying I didn't have a good year, cause I think I did a lot of fun stuff. It is just that there isn't what would be thought of as a major event. The point I'm getting to is now that 2008 is over it is a good time to find a nice place and reflect over the last year and take time to really think about things. Then maybe think about what didn't happen that should have and see if you can make it happen. For me yes I did like the party last night and it was a lot of fun, but there is also a part of me that would have loved to go to Chicago and went to the winter classic this after noon. Lets forget that I wouldn't want to be out in the cold for hours but it is just the Idea of it.

I'm not sure where some of the Interesting ones start but they will be up and you may find them interesting. It is odd that none of that really crazy stuff happens to me (not sure if that is good or bad though).

I had a good New Years Eve and I hope everyone else did also, thanks (e:pmt) for hosting and letting me crash their. There where so many (e:peeps) that where great to see. Up top I mentioned that the winter classic was today. I can't say enough about it for it to be its own post. I watched the US broadcast and enjoyed myself and thought it was a good game. At first it looked like Chicago was going to destroy the Red Wings but they came back and the Red Wings won. It was fun to watch and looked pretty good on TV. There is a connection to last years game Conklin (sorry can't spell) Played for The Penguins in that game last year and Campell played for the Sabres, plus Kane who plays for the Black Hawks is from Buffalo (not sure if it is the city or just the area).

So the next event I'm going to is the Bandits game on Saturday, it is there Home Opener and they will be raising the Championship banner. Them winning the Championship (even though I don't play) was one of maybe the Highlight of last year not sure. 12 years is a long time and they have had there chances where you could say maybe the should have won the championship, well should isn't the right word where they could have and didn't so that was a great time. Other things that come to mind was (e:ladycroft) had a get together at Pearl St. Grill , Seeing fireworks and Jackdaw at the Marina, I think on Valentines day seeing as Summer Dies at Diablo + I think Soma followed that show, I forgot about the Fetish Show at Diablo and seeing those two lovely ladies eat each other out that was a first, Was it this Saint Patricks day I went to the Parade and then went to see Jackdaw at W, I liked that I got to celebrate my Birthday twice, I think I said the uncle thing and the way I had a Christmas weekend, Seeing Dethklok was pretty cool and so was that other concert I saw at that time, Wick'd was a great time and I got to talk to someone else who had read the book and explained how things where different. I guess my year was better then I thought thanks to anyone who read all of this and I hope this year gets better for me but I doubt it will, Happy New Year everyone!!!
metalpeter - 01/02/09 19:22
(e:tinypliny) that height difference is kinda funny so I had to get at least one shot of it

(e:jenks) If my crappy memory serves me correctly that is (e:Iriesara)

As I'm writing this I remembered that this is a big sports weekend. This Morning Mia Mauler (maybe others after I left for work) was on channel 2 news because the QCRG's start up on Saturday night I think. Then during the day UB (ESPN2) plays in a bowl game in Canada. I think the Sabres are on in the after noon then there are 4 NFL games on this weekend. I think Saturday Nights Charges vs. Colts game could be very good, I'll be at the Bandits game.

Hope everyone enjoys both sets of pictures and has a great weekend.
jenks - 01/02/09 18:04
Who's the girl with the long brown hair and the purple top? Is that (e:iriesara)?
tinypliny - 01/01/09 19:46
Great photos! Thanks so much for being the official peterazzi and documenting the craziness. :) I loved your hairstyle. You reminded me of someone I know from back home.

(e:zzzzzoooobbbbb)aaarr completely missed a background wild symbol-gesturing chance!! I can't believe it!! I would have totally made some highly insane gesture if our positions had been reversed and I was the one who was a bazillion feet tall! ;-)
